I believe so. But from my experience it is exceedingly rare. I am in awe of the few Christians that walk the walk... they have my admiration and respect. But my experience is that most Christians cannot see beyond the end of their own beliefs. This can only ever lead to ignorance IMO.
The OP has it correct: 1 Peter 5:5 Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble. There is never a need to speak harshly to those you debate. If you must, refute them, forgive them, then ignore them if they are acting in a harsh manner. Debate should be a civilise persuit.
