There are time consuming activities that take place during the lame duck period. One of them is getting the security clearance processed for staff. Biden can't start that until Trump approves. I don't know how this went in 2000. Without looking it up, my guess is that both candidates got to at least get security clearance started for their top staff. Biden has already been getting daily security briefings for awhile, so that's not an issue.

Biden got 4 million majority votes and more votes in the battleground states than Trump in 2016. It's not a close election. The more Trump stubbornly pursues his madness, the more he will be let down by the other Republican elected officials. There hasn't been an election that has been overturned in 250 years, and Biden will be sworn in on January 20.

But we should remember that Trump has nowhere to go. He's not going to transition into Presidential retirement, like others before him. He's got no legacy to build on (apart from a fascist one) and I doubt he'll have a library named after him. (As is also a tradition.) That would be the irony of all ironies as we all know Trump can't read or write or do other stuff good as well... The only thing Trump can look forward to is a truckload of lawsuits, most likely for all the money he did not pay the taxman. If he's not going to prison outright he's surely staring into a black hole of bankruptcy. Most likely Melania also wants to quickly divorce him. That alone is gonna cost Trump big. If 71 million Americans re-voted for Trump it's mainly because they have been devastated by the Corona apocalypse. (If they didn't die from it first, that is.) These people might have lost their job, their money, perhaps their home. Millions of Americans now rely on foodbanks so as not to starve to death. The Corona pandemic is the great social and financial depression of our time. In such times people quickly turn not to the voice of solutions but that of blame. And Trump, in true fascist style, has provided exactly that rhetoric; blaming the other side for a pandemic he is unwilling to solve. In this case the Chinese. The Corona virus was never an American problem, oh no! According to Trump it was invented by the Chinese and deliberately send overseas. Blame the Chinese for your misery, Trump suggested. Trump then promises golden mountains that will never arrive, without ever caring a damn about real solutions. The virus will be gone VERY soon. A vaccine is JUST around the corner.
