The whole thing is unconstitutional, but since when has our criminal government abided by the law of the land?

The criminal US government doesn’t like TikTok because it doesn’t control it, as it does all the others.

Trump never hesitates to use the strong arm of the government to do his bidding. That's how authoritarians roll.

You would have to look at what the algorithm is promoting/pushing politically to American youth for the 2024 election cycle. That would be the only reason Trump would be interested.

Yet another example of how similar he is to Genocide Joe. The two fools agree on nearly all big issues, but those in the duopoly can’t see it.

Our government has gone rogue and plans tyranny for all, except the 1% who controls it.

You dont see the problem with a former president changing his mind after meeting with a hedgebfund manager about potential national security issues?

I thought the ultra mega rich weren't supposed to run this country?

The "Art of the Deal," which Trump didn't even write, was a piece of ****. And it looks like Trump has already reversed his position without "compensation," unless you are suggesting he was bribed, which would be no surprise.

Apparently, he met with a mega donor to the republican party who most likely threatened to not fund his campaign.

Trump sold America so he can personally benefit.

    Let's make Trump great again!

They probably placated him and made him think it was his idea, though. He's easily manipulable and it is lower hanging fruit for them to do it that way.

I think Bannon is right, - Trump has been bought. He is siding with the Chinese while trashing American companies.

Steve Bannon Suggests Donald Trump Has Been Bought

    https://www.newsweek.com/steve-bannon-suggests-donald-trump-has-been-bought-1877583
Steve Bannon, the one-time adviser to Donald Trump, suggested on Saturday that the former president was paid off after a shift in stance on TikTok.

TikTok, the immensely popular video-sharing app known for its predominantly young audience, has once again come under scrutiny from U.S. lawmakers. The app is currently owned by Chinese tech company, ByteDance, which has spurred significant suspicion that its abundance of user data is being furnished to the Chinese government.

"If you get rid of TikTok, Facebook and Zuckerschmuck [CEO Mark Zuckerberg] will double their business," the former president wrote. "I don't want Facebook, who cheated in the last Election, doing better. They are a true Enemy of the People!"

In any event, I'm glad a billionaire who understands the plight of other millionaires is running for the highest office.

President of the people for sure!

Bannon may just be onto something but he's still an anarchist..., my God! As @FreshAir said, follow the money trail.

I'll never understand why anyone fell for the whole line that Trump was tough on China. Pulling out of the TPP alone was one of the biggest gifts any modern American politician has given to China. Hell, I can't actually think of a bigger one.

There certainly is the potential for a problem, and I would be suspicious if there werent more obvious and benevolent reasons to not use the force of govt to fix ticktock. But THERE ARE more obvious and benevolent reasons to not use the force of govt to fix ticktock, so jumping to the immediate conclusions of 'corruption! conspiracy!' doesnt seem reasonable.

What do you think should be done about ticktock? Do you think using the force of govt to fix/ban it is the preferred solution?

Well ya, this should always be done.

Do you think the govt should ban ticktock?

Ya I definitely don't trust FedGov to do its job...

But that isn't the current issue. Until there is a viable 'federal data protection bill' in the pipeline, the current options to fix ticktock are with unjust, targetted, forceful govt action (which Trump was going for) and more cooperative, voluntary action with the heads of ticktock (which apparently Trump is preferring now), or, of course, do nothing.

Given the choice between those three current options, and until other options actually exist and are viable, do you have a preference?

Yes, and some of that money is from selling our data to the government because buying it from its legal owner doesnt require a warrant. Do you really think the government can be trusted to honestly end that loophole?

    I agree…

But more importantly, what is the concern with TIK-TOK ?

If the Chinese want your information, they can easily get it from any one of a thousand companies who sell that data on the open market ?

All true. I'm not personally overly concerned with regulating tiktok. It does appear that its algorythms are tooled for social manipulation by the ChiComs, but I don't think its a problem we can or should rely on govt to solve.

FACEBOOK, "X", and every other social media platform do the same things

Hell, Facebook and "X" both sell your data to companies like Exact and Tap. Google Analytics has been gathering data on EVERY platform that users search and get data from using their search engine for YEARS. I always ask people....Ever wonder how GOOGLE makes so much money, but doesn't charge for their searches ? Hell Sergey and Larry are both worth over a Hundred Billion each
