The Fed Chair is Trump's guy. Why do you think he's warning the economy can't recover if the virus isn't under better control? Because we had this spending pattern in the Spring...

    7E706F5C-E36E-4DEB-AF8C-814AD87CEC45.jpeg

A lot of people stop going to restaurants, malls, movies, bars, traveling because they want to avoid catching the virus. The economy is surviving now with government support of business, unemployment, and so on. Republicans want to cut the support with the consequence that we'll have a depression, especially we don't cut the number of new virus cases.
You seem to be afraid of what happens if we don't "open business" right now. If we do, it won't make near enough difference when a significant number of people walk away from restaurants, bars, malls, etc. where people aren't wearing masks, they can't distance, and a lot of virus is around.

We have to close some businesses likely to spread the virus, at least until we get the new case count down--bars, clubs, dine-in restaurants, amusement parks, convention centers, malls, churches, recreation centers, schools, and so on. Some of these can operate under different rules, often limiting numbers in the store or restaurant.

Do we help businesses we force to close or cut operations, and businesses who see demand dry up? Do we help them and their employees or not?

I'm not making this stuff up. That's what Powell is warning us about. We're near the cliff edge and a lot of Republican Senators seem to be inclined to jump. There isn't enough demand in the economy from consumers and business.

Please explain how Powell is "Trumps guy" or are you not aware of how limited the choices are for Fed Chair? Do you need an education on the matter?

They are doctors practicing medicine that they are the ones making decisions on treatments and he is following the advice of the doctors at Walter Reed as he should not some scientist in a lab. And what Biden leaves out it is not just the medical field a President must listen to he must also listen to economic advisers too.

He was Trump's choice. Did you expect Congress would go with Ivanka or a trucker?

So you dont know who can be nominated for Fed Chair.. Why did you not just state that?

The chair is nominated by the President of the United States from among the members of the Board of Governors, and serves a term of four years after being confirmed by the United States Senate. A chair may serve multiple consecutive terms, pending a new nomination and confirmation at the end of each. William Martin was the longest serving chair, holding the position from 1951 to 1970. The chair does not serve at the pleasure of the President, meaning that he or she cannot be dismissed by the President, however, the chair can resign before the end of the term.[3]

The current Chair is Jerome Powell, who was sworn in on February 5, 2018.[4][5][6][7] He was nominated to the position by President Donald Trump on November 2, 2017, and was later confirmed by the Senate.[8]

I no longer give a rat’s ass about his showmanism.

What he recently did/said have only impressed his below average intelligent supporters, thus, a minority.

I would be curious to see a similar chart thru October.

A lot of people stopped going out because of the left's fearmongering and politicization of COVID ---- the CNN watchers and the Trump haters are convinced they're all going to die if they leave their houses to go anywhere other than Walmart or a riot ---- but you can't blame that fear on Trump, who has been the voice of reason and calm throughout this.

The reality, numbers, and statistics do NOT support the fear.

Much of that "support" has already expired.

Businesses need to be open to make money. I think you overestimate the fear factor and the numbers of people who will stay hidden in their basements. I travel a fair amount. I've been in multiple states, airports, restaurants, etc since the onset of COVID, and people are still out and about.

The damage to the economy was done by the shutdowns. We are now in a rebuilding phase. Reinstating the shutdowns is not the answer.

Of course, I can. Most of the people Democrats represent are "poor" relative to those who live in the suburbs.

    Anyway, what's your point?

Or there are sick people getting false negatives, or you know, if you look at the dates you will see spikes at around the beginning of july and again beginning of August which are 2 common vacation weeks.

Hmmmm.......setting aside the medical decisions made on behalf of the President's health, I think there's evidence that the President has not proactively followed the guidance or advise from the health experts when it comes to the virus and it's impact on the general population. I agree that the President is responsible for weighing multiple issues including the economy but in this current situation the public health is the driver not the economy. These are not competing issues but rather they are dependent on each other. Without a healthy citizenry we cannot have a healthy economy.

The shutdowns were required because we’re not Taiwanese.

    See all my posts since the pandemic began, and to my knowledge, I’ve been the only conservative who kept promoting Taiwan’s “Let’s keep working” strategy, thus;

    Keep working
    Keep wearing masks
    Keep your distance

However, still today, Taiwan’s KKK strategy isn’t collectively and effectively implementable nor sustainable in the U.S.,>>Mod Edit Rule 2<<

    And ironically, here are two conservative beliefs LIBERALS have been promoting;

    1. Individual responsibility

    2. Strong defence

    Let’s elaborate

    1. In an effort to minimize/prevent the spread of Covid19, we must behave responsibly

    2. What’s our best weapons against Covid19?

Wear masks, and keep your distance.

In addition, we are at war against an invisible enemy, and historically, wars have been hard on civil liberties, for example; Blackouts

Thus, public safety (Big government) VERSUS “don’t tell me what to do”.

We don't have enough consumer and business demand to sustain the economy. Do a little research.

    https://fred.stlouisfed.org/
This isn't a leftist or liberal plot, nor is it something Democrats control. They want to save the environment, get everyone health care, cut the cost of college, etc. Spending to keep food on the table isn't what they hoped to be doing.
The airlines are laying off 100,000 employees. Hotels have fewer customers. Ditto restaurants. Being open doesn't mean you have enough revenue.
We won't recover until we get the virus under better control. That's what the Fed Chair is telling us.

The entire team at Walter Reed gave several press briefings and if that is all you got, smearing those brilliant doctors you have nothing but insults.

As he arrived back at the White House on Monday evening, the president defiantly removed his face mask and stopped to pose on a balcony within feet of a White House photographer. He was seen inside moments later, surrounded by numerous people as he taped a video message urging Americans not to fear a virus that has killed more than 210,000 in the U.S. and 1 million worldwide.

Ahhhh yeah I did, if you came down with COVID would you go to a scientist for treatment or a Doctor who specializes in the prevention and treatment infectious disease? And Biden HAS his "scientist" he bragged about his task force isn't he asking them what he should do as President? Why can't he tells us what he will do that hasn't been done already?
