That is the purpose of the enormous American military. To reinforce the American presence throughout the globe. Just as the Royal Navy did during the days of the British Empire.

Our military guards the places where we invest our money, and provide their resources (think oil), and serve as a geopolitical buffer to rival states like Russia and China.

Now that Trump nation is openly isolationist, I guess the United States is starting to go down the long trail of global decline that will end when we are finally forced to relearn the lesson of Pearl Harbor.

Trump is an idiot. You don't broadcast internal negotiations with your allies. Those are discussions for behind closed doors. Now those
allies know that if Trump is elected again, there is no telling what he's going to tell adversaries. Trump is a moron. End of story.

I know, right. What a Hitler he was for negotiating a cease fire for 18 months where no American soldiers were attacked.
And how horrible it was that he evacuated 30,000 troops and 3 military bases without a shot being fired.
    Thats just horrible.

Were you asking about Biden just giving 6 billion to Tehran or Obama giving Iran 150 billion.
You will have to be more concise.

More Americans died in that stupid war while Trump was President than died under Biden's watch. Biden screwed up the withdrawal - no doubt - but at least he ended it and didn't kick the can down the road like Trump. Is what it is.

The British Empire was bankrupted by joining in a Franco Prussian war and thereby making it a World War,
    we now call WW1.

The key when you start a relative decline is to not waste resources on pointless wars.

Conversely, 60% of US electricity is NOT generated from natural gas.

Thats a good trade for 2500 Afghans and 30,000 troops and 4 military bases evacuated without a shot fired.
Or were you hoping they would continue to kill our troops

Which has nothing to do with Biden abandoning hundreds of American civilians to the Taliban.

Saying stupid stuff = doing stupid stuff. Wars start with words.

No one knows that. If a member repeatedly shows interest in treason / betrayal, then it would be foolish to trust that member under any circumstances.

That's not entirely true. Global investments are secure through trade agreements that come with insurances sanctioned through the world trade body.

USA military presence in these regions is more a case of policing these foreign regimes to make sure they stay favourable to American interests.

Trump's words seem to have impacted UK already with talks starting in parliament on increasing our military budget to meat our NATO quota.

He's not talking to the members, he is talking to Russia and to his base, - to Russia to let them know he won't stand in their way, and to his base, because he has already conditioned them to trash our allies and he knows they'll support crap like this.

    UK already meets the guideline.

Only because of the Ukraine war. If not for that we wouldn't meet the budget. It's almost like we have to perpetuate wars somewhere, in order to meet NATO requirements. That seems utterly perverse..

Trump is a successful business man. America is a corporation. He is smarter than you give him credit for. Nato is already responding to trump by announcing all those guilty parties that are not meeting their military budgets. The tremors are already being felt across Europe. Trump is trying to militiarise Europeans to be able to defend themselves should Russia become aggressive.

Earlier you said UK is responding Trump, and I told you that they already met the guideline and you responded that they did it because of Ukraine, not Trump. What changed? Also, facts and figures have already been posted showing the spending increase started in 2014 after the NATO summit where everyone agreed to meet the guideline in 10 yrs. You can keep saying they are "already responding to trump", but its not factually correct.

Maybe they should have a discussion about dissolving the treaty, because EU can repeal an attack from Russia, but fighting a China-Russia alliance to defend the US would be far costlier, because it would be fought in dozens of different places around the globe. There is no point in slicking with US when Trump made it clear the US is probably a no-show in case Article-5 is invoked. It makes sense only if you can count on the members to show up.

It's only important that Americans trust him, Trump won't be the President of the world or NATO.

I mean I'm pretty sure it could....but I wouldn't like to put it to the test....European forces don't actually do all that well together...I mean in terms of hierarchy/command structures and communicating between nations that kindda thing....they're getting much better at it but as for a fully integrated European response of combined arms...it would probably not go that well to start with....everyone looking at the French organising a protest march whilst the Poles just simply blast forth... the Dutch will have a mental health day whilst Germany schedules umpteen rounds of emergency debates and Belgium organises a leaflet drop....the UK in the meantime looks around thinking hmmmm what to do....what to do....maybe it'll go away....:D
