    While I do agree correcting this issue will require an amendment to the constitution, you should also remember Trump ended DACA, an executive order, but a judge blocked its repeal.

    The supremes wont do a thing. You have to repeal the 14th amendment.

    On July 28, 1868, the 14th Amendment to the United States Constitution wasratified. The amendment grants citizenship to "all persons born or naturalized in the United States" which included former slaves who had just been freed after the Civil War.

    Exactly. Get it to SCOTUS as soon as possible.

    It's interesting that liberals are now suddenly constitutional originalists and conservatives are happy for constitutional amendment by executive order. Truly we live in upside-down times.

    President Trump has assured us that he has sought counsel and they have told him that he can make the change by executive order.

    He wouldn't say that if it could be blocked.

    Yeah I thinks that is what its designed for. Especially since Trump wants to give the Dreamers a pathway to citizenship.

    Yes ... and he'll need to demonstrate why the EO is necessary. The SCOTUS will always lean towards congressional / constitutional legislation. Trump must present a set of circumstances that suggest immediate, tempory intervention via EO is warranted.

    Right it was about indians and freed slaves and that's in the past. It was never meant for what it's now being used for. It's an arcane law that needs to go away. Trump bringing this out is a great move. He is winning on immigration and this will be very popular among his voters which will help defeat democrats and light a fire under congress to repeal the fourteenth.

    I'm not sure the Supremes would take Trump's side but I am sure this issue helps Republicans in the coming election and may inspire a new republican congress to repeal the fourteenth.

    There's no rush in getting it before the SCOTUS. None at all from Trump's perspective. None of the "originalists" are on their death beds, or plan retiring. Someone will have to make a legal challenge ... Trump isn't going to submit his EO to the SCOTUS for review first.

    Sure, I agree. Its outlived its usefulness, but the only way to change it is a constitutional amendment.

    I believe you need atleast a 2/3s vote in congress and the senate, or it has to be ratified by 3/4 of the states. 38 states.....

    Democrats will never do whats best for the country, so its never going to work.

    You might be surprised what another republican revolution could do and we may be on the brink of that. This is a great issue to help that happen and genius of Trump to bring up right now.

    False. They did the exact same thing to get their citizenship as you did: they were born. A misdemeanor on the part of their parents does not change that fact. You are proposing we strip someone of their rights based on the actions of their parents. We don't do that here.
