That would be the guy. Old age doesn’t discriminate and even the most famous masterminds succumbed to the travesty of getting old.
Beat me to it by 2 minutes This is a twist even M. Night couldn't have thought up... Although I also see dead people... https://www.cbsnews.com/news/steve-scalise-house-speaker-withdraw-bid/
Problem is, you guys are trying to simultaneously present him as some master of cunning and persuasion, while also someone who can't remember his name... You really have to try harder....
A decrepit, wily, criminal mastermind barely able to outwit and evade all the intrepid Republican sleuths determined to nail him, governing the nation, creating jobs, and rebuilding the infrastructure, while leading an international collation fighting savage aggression and terrorism at home and abroad. Meanwhile, there is one deluded old dude, out of touch with reality, who fantasizes that he's the President, as he attacks democratic elections, the nation's allies, officers of the court, and praises war criminals and terrorists. Trump praises Hezbollah as ‘very smart’ and criticizes Netanyahu
wow, did not see that coming, looks like McCarthy may be coming back MAGA loses all their power over him if he does, this could be the worst thing MAGA could have done maybe the sane in both parties could do some bipartisan bills again, work for America, like under the Clinton years
It is pure maleficence on the part of the House to be conducting itself this way. There is never a good time for the Nation to be drifting aimlessly, but it is especially bad at this moment. The duopoly's determination to serve itself at whatever cost to us must be put to an end it the republic is to continue.
Republican self-inflicted impotence in Congress is seriously harmful to the United States, especially in time of crises, and serves the interests of the nation's enemies. The bunglers would do better to ignore the muliply-indicted Loser's orders, put all members names in a pickelhaube, and have George Santos pick one than persist in their protracted dysfunction. Trump tells Republicans to shut down Foreign policy experts call on House to solve 'chaos,' warn 'enemies will be emboldened'
Republicans need to be locked in a room and get their crap together. All these adjournments and laziness do nothing for the country.
There's another, on the Right, who just emerged, as a new contender: Georgia's Austin Scott. His district went for Trump, of course, in both 2016 & 2020. Since there are two Air Force bases in his district, he is very pro-military, and sits on the he Armed Services Committee, as well as on the Intelligence, and on the Agriculture Committees. He's in his seventh Congressional term. <Snip> Scott helped Georgia Democrats in the effort to remove the Confederate battle emblem from the state flag in 2001, bucking the Republican Party line. But Scott opposes abortion and same-sex marriage and has called for federal bans on both. He also challenged the 2020 election of Biden over Trump. <End Snip> https://thehill.com/homenews/4254689-who-is-gop-speaker-candidate-austin-scott/
Nahhhh... they're going with this *******, unless I missed his dropping out in the last 15 minutes... https://www.usnews.com/news/nationa...e-republicans-nominate-jim-jordan-for-speaker If all you need is 5 people to oppose him on the right, that shouldn't be too big a hill to climb... IOW, not everybody will go to the mat for him.... lol...
I would expect there to be greater objection to Jordan, among any truly moderate Republicans, though these may see the idea of at least having some Speaker, as better than having none at all. Whether it would work out that way-- being any better than none-- remains to be seen.

Who needs to worry about foreign terrorists when we have Republicans? This is all they ever seem to accomplish “Government is bad, elect us and we will show you just how bad it can be” — should be the Republican Party platform Maybe that’s too many words, they seem to usually keep it under four words and before anyone complains — my post is obviously discussing republican politicians
I do not know much about him, and that says to me, be a good choice, he seems to lean further right, but also can do the right thing in a bipartisan fashion, even when unpopular with some in his party based on your post, so thus far, see nothing wrong with him I expect to have political differences with a republican speaker, that is normal, on the other hand Jordan would be like putting a bull in charge of a China shop
I think my post, very quickly, became old & moot news. Jordan apparently won that contest, garnering 155 of the House Republicans' votes. Here's his post, with a link: Egoboy said: ↑ Nahhhh... they're going with this *******, unless I missed his dropping out in the last 15 minutes... https://www.usnews.com/news/nationa...e-republicans-nominate-jim-jordan-for-speaker If all you need is 5 people to oppose him on the right, that shouldn't be too big a hill to climb... That's 100% true, but it also reminded me of an hilarious throw-away line from Eugene Levy at the start of the original Vacation. Trying to sell Clark that big station wagon.. SNIP Now, I owe it to myself to tell you that if you're taking the whole tribe cross-country, the Wagon Queen Family Truckster... You think you hate it now, wait 'til you drive it.
