Also not true. Cluster munitions were last used by the U.S. marines during desert storm. The unexploded ordinance causes many Marine casualties which resulted in the U.S. ceasing their use entirely. U.S. uses artillery ammunition which uses tungsten ball-bearings now.

There is some truth to that. Ukraine is blowing through standard 155mm artillery rounds much faster than NATO can make them. All NATO partners are ramping up production, but that takes time.

The cluster munitions solve that ammo shortage problem. The USA alone has about 4.6 million 155mm cluster shells stockpiled. If they only send 1 million to Ukraine, that still keeps Ukaine fat and happy for about 2 years.

Plus, cluster munitions are far superior at hitting infantry in trenches, or soft targets in general. What used to take five rounds will now take one. That simplifies logistics for Ukraine. It also means their artillery can scoot faster after shooting fewer rounds.

Russia is in worse shape regarding artillery. Russia is low on their mainstay 152mm howitzer rounds, so they often have to use 120mm mortars instead, which have a shorter range and less boom. Every other caliber, Russia essentially has none. That's what Ukraine has been doing lately, degrading the Russian artillery guns and stockpiles.

I don't consider cluster weapons an atrocity. I consider their use to kill innocent civilians to be an atrocity.
