What about the four schools of thought? No one has ever claimed that one interpretation is right in all situations and all of the other ones are wrong. If muslims want a caliph then they should follow Iran's Supreme Leader. He already has the required ego.

I assume it is harder to hide human rights abuses with so many international NGO's out there documenting it. I didn't address it because, if you look hard enough you can find equally gruesome murders committed by all sorts of deranged people. Perhaps that was your point. I did a quick Google search. There is a 500-page Fatwa refuting and condemning terrorism done in the name of Islam, published a few years ago. Agreed. Not quite. It is different in America than say, Afghanistan. But I too feel our governments/leaders (both secular and religious) do not do enough to clean this mess. They are too dependant on others (primarily the West) to do it for them. The people, your average Muslim, do about as much as we can without picking up a gun. That would make it worse. Because you don't see something doesn't mean it doesn't exist. I don't mean to make excuses, but protesting against al-Qaida in Western countries is useless. It will not change anything. Protesting in countries which they are in is easy targets for suicide bombers. Unfortunately protesting will not solve the al-Qaida problem. I didn't understand the last sentence in this part. What happened with the cartoon was what the cartoonist wanted. Not so much about free speech than it was provoking a response. The response was overboard when it turned violent. It is much deeper than just it's support for 'Israel' though. After Spiritus Libertatis's post... Lets just say I am not great at making assumptions.
I always seem to be amazed how people who can't even comprehend Islam being a religion think they understand it in the least bit. Ignorance is bliss. My favourite slander attempt however is that we worship a moon god. That one is always good for a few laughs.
Oh and don't forget we worship the black stone at the Ka'aba. Sometimes even the Ka'aba itself. And Muhammad, peace be upon him, wrote the Quran by copying what he read in the Bible. Who needs Imams when we have expert Islamophobes to tell us about Islam? How can any Muslim possibly refute their "facts?"
That isn't where those crime statistics come from, and trying to estimate the number of abuses against women, for instance, esp when there is war of some sort or another, is not really reasonable. They try. It was not. Let's pretend most of the pedophiles come from Mormonism. They seem to just produce really kind, polite, happy if not robotic people... and peophiles... and while there are certainly pedophiles who are not Mormons... SO many, as to make the majority, ALL come from Mormonism... Do you think you might want to figure out why? Doesn't mean you are going to convert to try and figure out how the leap... that is how you end up with websites that just throw out "bad" translations of the more militant parts. You had to look it up is sort of the point. It isn't... really an issue you previously cared enough to google... any more than I was. I just sort of assumed someone probably had. And that is a valid answer. I can't say most Americans would pick up a gun to stop Americans doing stupid (*)(*)(*)(*) either. And of course the sound argument is that the peaceful muslims are being peaceful... cause that's what they do... but still... some anti-terrorist jihad would be awesome NOT coming from some piece of (*)(*)(*)(*) dictator. When I have to ask my fellow Americans why we are on Al-Queda's side in two conflicts we don't want to get our hands dirty in. Looks to me like Assad is a terrorist killing machine. Unfortunately he appears to be a women children and protester killing machine too. I have no dog in this fight... but why is my government on the enemies side is a question I would like asked in the media. It shouldn't be able to provoke violence... and yet does. This was clearly the point behind Innocence of Muslims as well... to expose islam as violent to free speech and democracy... unfortunately a lot of Muslims agree with this. There are a whole lot of Sharia supporters in the Muslim world as I am sure you know. I don't know how you would vote on a national referendum to institute Sharia law. I do not think most would trust your answer if it were not what they were expecting. That is a difficult problem. Was just an example reason for a hypothetically related act. No I was being purposefully ambiguous. I do really appreciate your participation in threads. I know people are offensive to be offensive to you. I am blunt, so I am sure much I do offends you as well, but it is not my intent. You are kind to answer my questions, while being offended. I am sure people are offended by what you say as well. I don't claim understanding of Islam... I have read a lot, but there is a lot to read. I also do not read Arabic, and I believe there is nuance lost in translation. I bothered to learn the languages the New Testament was written in... and the OT ancient Hebrew... the whole kabaal side, the mystic side with all of the numerology... like more than half of that is just gone... there is no understanding what some of it was at this point. As I am not likely to pick up Arabic, I don't actually expect I will ever understand it. *The Qu'ran that is.
