The progression has been toward religion having LESS and LESS control of state issues, with the extreme control of government by religion gradually giving way to the modern era of Christianity fighting for the vestiges of the control it once had - such as in education, public accommodation, employment, housing, taxation, political operation, etc.

That came due to secular pressure and our history that informs us of what is successful in government, the rights of individuals, the concept of democracy, etc.

You mean you don't know? They want a theocracy and to override the Constitution and Bill of Rights.. Same thing you're talking.

No Jesus did NOT challenge the Roman Empire.. He taught non violent resistance.. He knew that if the various Jewish factions didn't stop fighting each other and the Romans, the Temple would be destroyed and life would be forever changed with the terrors of the tribulation.

our subject is not about the progression for 34th time!! it is about Jesus challenging state like modern Republicans do.

Those are cases where Christianity is STILL fighting against the split between religion and state.

As I remember your thesis was that the split between church and state was inspired by Jesus. I'm pointing out that Christianity has consistently opposed its lost of the power of government - even today!

Everybody challenges the state! That isn't unique.

Jesus didn't challenge the state - he ceded to it Paul went so far as to suggest Roman leadership was chosen by God.

Republicans today (even the Christian Republicans) tend not to see our leaders as chosen by their god.

Your first sentence that states a position was:
"He created individual liberty on earth."

You don't have anything to back that up.

Above, you now switch to proposing that the victory of secular government over religious government was a gift of Christianity!!!

That's just plain ridiculous. Religious government LOST. And, Christians STILL fight against secular, religiously neutral government.

before Jesus men were merely slaves in the Roman collective; after Jesus they were individuals responsible for their own moral lies and relationship to the God that loved them as individuals and promised them eternal life as individuals. Now you understand?

yes they lost but the intellectual tension between Church and state was a huge stimulative benefit to Western Civilization that the Eastern Empire did not share and thus the result was very different. Ever wonder why Russia is still so backwards? Well now you know.

Constantine is a question mark, having grown up a pagan and then switching religions over time. Even well into his reign he celebrated victories with pagan statues and burnt offerings with Christian iconography totally absent.

But, there is no question that Constantine grew to seeing himself as the owner of Christianity.

Suggesting he divided church from state is ridiculous. All he did was tolerate greater diversity while seeing himself as the owner of Christianity, rooting out heresy, destroying those who moved away from orthodoxy.

No, that's not what you said in the OP.

In the OP you said Jesus created individual liberty.

    Then, you said:
"The transformational liberty Jesus created on earth slowly gave birth to Christianity, the Reformation, Enlightenment, and finally the American Revolution. To this day Republicans stand to limit Caesarian liberal statist govt and maintain or increase liberty , while Democrats oppose this basic trajectory of Western Civilization every step of the way!"

But, Jesus did not create or propose liberty. His message regarding the state was to cede to the state.

Republicans today demand liberty, demand all sorts of other rights be ceded by government to them - as I've pointed to in the last few posts.

That's 180 degrees in the opposite direction of Jesus.
