Now I'll bring it back to old tunes, since I've found myself listening to this one, towards the start of today. But this is Clapton at a recent concert (2019), giving one of his better renditions of the Cream song, he'd co-written with George Harrison, "Badge."

That one's not so bad but I still feel like I'm being shouted at rather than sung to.

What did you think of the Aaliya song, after that one?

I can kind of relate to your complaint, about being shouted at, only so far as some Hip-hoppers will, on occasion, shout directions at the audience. I am thinking about one Jay-Z song, in particular, in which he wants people to raise their arms (to sway them, from side to side) and so has a line, "get your damn hands up!" I don't take especially well to being ordered, how I should listen to a song. But, as I say, this is not a frequent occurrence.

I'll give you another example of a rather soft song, using some Hip-hop within it; and a song & artist I became familiar with, through a Hip-hop station, though her music is R&B, blended with Soul. The title "Love of My Life," has the parenthetical addition, "(Ode to Hip-hop)." Erykah Badu:

I might as well put this one in, while I'm at it. Another song that's not Hip-hop, but that was played on Hip-hop stations. It is actually a form of Raggae, called "Diwali." Just a heads-up, there are a few seconds at the very start that are totally different than the rest of the song (& which didn't make it to the single), so don't pay attention to that.
    Wayne Wonder, "No letting Go:"

Here is a pared down, acoustic version, which has an extemporaneous feel to it: done, it looks like, during an interview, with a guitarist who seems to have just learned the song, mostly.

OK, this is actual Hip-hop, even though it has a somewhat bubble gum rap flavor. But it's by legit rappers, Fabolous, with P. Diddy-- in Part 2-- (& Jagged Edge). There are two parts. The first one is a little more laid back, the second has a swifter flow, & a more animated, rhythmic drive.

Probably my favorite song ever-the studio version has everything-Greg Lake's wonderful voice as a young man, Keith Emerson's brilliant moog solo, and of course Lake playing a few different guitars. Then the live version by Lake that is equally as good. Lake's voice didn't last nearly as long as say Plant's or Winwood's but at its best is might have been the best in English rock

btw Lake wrote the song and music at age 12!

Emerson, Lake and Palmer's first ever live performance. Very rare indeed.

Nothing is easy, nor should it be according to the Tull.
