Your statement and posted song, have nothing to do with one another. What you are really saying-- as you are not the official arbiter, of what is or isn't music-- is that Hip-hop is not to your taste. That's fine. I am not a big fan, either. But that doesn't keep me from appreciating when I hear something worthwhile. On page 155, before I'd posted the links to the Hip-hop songs, I'd posted some Hindu chanting, which one will hear if they attend a service in any Hindu temple. This is their music, and it has a Hip-hop feel to it. The same goes for the Santeria chants, I'd posted. So, what intelligent basis would you have to declare, Hindu chanting is not music? If you won't say that, then what is it about Hip-hop, that differentiates it enough from any kind of ritual chanting, to reasonably classify it differently, as "non music?"

By the way, I also, recently, posted the Beatles' song "Good Night."

 

I agree with you totally. But if somebody could come up with a filter for hip-hop music in modern media they could be mega-rich.

 

Like it or not, it is obviously very popular, especially with the most sought after, young demographic. Most of today's Hip-hop, of course, incorporates more traditional sounding musical elements, as well. No media filter, really necessary, to avoid hearing somebody rap, just over record scratches.

Sounds like Appalachian music, which is something I also enjoy. It is traditional folk music. Bluegrass later used it as an inspiration, with which it fused Blues & improvisation.

 

Here's something that may be a little Appalachian as well.

This one's even older-- from 1971. But it stayed popular for a long while-- since I heard it a good number of years later than that. It recently came back into my head.

And it's hard to go wrong, with Aaliya. Her stuff is more on the edge of R&B & Hip-hop, but you'll hear it on pretty much any Hip-hop station. She was a special talent, that we lost far too soon.
