For some reason, I had the song, "Bye, bye love," in my head, but when I listened to the Every Brothers doing it, I found it had been better in my imagination, than on You Tube. But I did come across this small find, a short recording of the Beatles doing part of the song. I swear, they just make things better.

Thanks, DEF. Some of their stuff reminds me of a band I was into back in the '80s and I still like their music. They were really edgy and smart and had a somewhat unique sound - not sure whatever happened to these guys....

Andy Gill was a somewhat adventurous guitar player, too - this is the only song I've heard that is basically nothing but feedback:

A little something live...more reverb and feedback, please! :D

Cool stuff. "What We All Want," really jams-- I dig it! And you weren't kidding, about guitarist Andy Gill: I have never heard such lovely-sounding feedback, as on "Anthrax;" it is like a watercolor painting, in reverb. I like it.

It's funny, that live version of "What We All Want" on Another Day, Another Dollar was the first Gang of Four song I ever heard and I was instantly hooked. Unfortunately, the EP is out of print but their best two studio albums Entertainment and Solid Gold are back in print (just checked at Amazon). As for Andy Gill, sadly he passed away in 2020, but I'm still a huge fan - he was one of those great innovative musicians who never got the attention and accolades he deserved.

Like I mentioned earlier, they were a really smart bunch - a lot of their songs dealt with media, culture, politics and economics and their early work was particularly critical of mass media and pop culture, but to their credit they managed to do so without being trite or demagogic. They also had a wonderfully sardonic and understated sense of humor that I still find amusing - this is the cover art for the "Another Day, Another Dollar" single that was originally a track off of Solid Gold :

    LOL - Classic....and still timely! :-D

Yep, the Beastie Boys started up as Punks, for example with songs like this ..

Back then, the punk era was just over and everyone loved Rap Music. Beastie Boys also, so they began creating own Rap tunes. They were very productive and recorded an album called "Licensed to ill" which became a worldwide success. :)

LOL - I've never heard their old Punk stuff.

"Licensed to Ill" is a great album. If I recall correctly, they toured that album in the United States with Run DMC. At the show in our town there was a brawl and a bunch of dudes got arrested, which was a bummer.

As far as Punk bands go, the Sex Pistols are my favorite:

    Thanks for these diamonds!

The term "Witch Trials" (regarding alternative music) remembers me of this album:

Also some kind of what I call "Jazz Punk".
I first heard this album in a Polish record store around 1999.

Don't know, but Run DMC & Aerosmith came up with a special version of "Walk this way". :)

    Me too. :)
Back then, there were many synergy effects between Hip-Hoppers and traditional Rock bands. For example, Slayer & Public Enemy did some great stuff and Anthrax created this masterpiece called "I am the man" ... :)

Today on one of my favorite satellite stations, they did a 3Peat of one of the most covered songs in rock. They started with the original, then did a cover by a guy who falsely claimed to be a cowriter and finished with the Rod Stewart/Jeff Beck version. I am modifying it to do the original, the most well known and the best (IMHO) Versions

    Original

    Most famous

Oh yeah - I've got that album. :D

Don't forget "Bring The Noise" with PE...

I remember when the Red Hot Chili Peppers first came out in the early 80s - they were one of the first bands to blend hard rock with funk & rap and their first three albums were great. Andy Gill of Gang of Four (#3902 above) produced their first album and George Clinton of Parliament Funkadelic produced their second. I saw them at a little dump in Richmond, VA before Hillel Slovak overdosed on heroin and it was one of the best gigs I've ever seen.

Hip-hop is considered black music but in my opinion, whites made the best Hip-hop tracks. For example:

Dude, it's fine to like House of Pain, but to generalize, from that, that "whites made the best Hip-hop," sounds pretty racist. It also sounds like you are judging from a limited base of listening experience. While Hip-hop is definitely not one of my favorite styles, it still has its share of dope jams. For example, did you check out either of these two that I'd posted on page 155?

"It's Nothing," by Kool G Rap

    http://www.politicalforum.com/index...-right-now-25.562489/page-155#post-1074097900

"What We Do," by Freeway, with Jay-Z.

    http://www.politicalforum.com/index...-right-now-25.562489/page-155#post-1074099644

It's funny, I am hearing tunes posted here with swear words, but which have no warning label-- but use the "n-word," and you can be damn sure, your lyrics will be labelled "explicit." Since the "clean" versions of these songs lost too much, what I'd opted to do, you'll see, is to remove one letter from the link address. I give explicit directions, in the second one-- you can still listen to the song, without leaving this site: just copy what I give you, to the new post box, insert the letter "v" where I indicate it belongs, then "preview" it.

Another Rap that is pretty good, but I didn't post because the clean version kind of sucks, is Jay-Z's "Dirt Off Your Shoulder."

Or, here is a fun duo-- are you familiar with the Ying Yang Twins?

Not that whites can't, also, make good Hip-hop songs, but just by the numbers involved alone, to say that the white artists are the cream of the crop, so to speak, is ridiculous. That said, of course Eminem is a top Rapper, and I have even heard black artists say, "don't get me wrong, but..." and then go ahead to cite "Lose Yourself" as a quintessential Hip-hop tune. Of course, Eminem also lived in that culture, which is the foundation of that style of music.

Hip-hop is not music, nowhere even near it.
