I may not like their doctrines or teachings, but the artworks inspired by Christianity during the Renaissance period are pretty amazing. So they definitely have that as a major contribution to society. =)

Not really, it was Church patronage which facilitated the Michelangelos of the Renaissance, not religious devotion. The subject matter had to be at least Biblical to attract the Church's money.

completely subjective too, billions of people will never see those paintings and the quality of their lives will be none the worse for not seeing them...

I've seen them, many in fact, they're not that great, just old...

The Sistine Chapel was not the only piece of artwork created during the Renaissance and Michelangelo was not the only artist. The Renaissance period gave birth to quite a few artists during that time.

Trust me, I know all about this. I had an English Humanities professor who was quite literally OBSESSED with the Renaissance period. She even made us write elaborate essays about the three Greek columns, Doric, Ionic and Corinthian and their use in Renaissance architecture. X_x

Well it's not even just the artwork. The entire Italian Renaissance period gave way to great cultural changes in society over a span of 3 centuries. I mean, you'd have to pick around through history to understand it all but it was largely affected by religion at that time which could be perceived as both good and bad.

Well, just off the top of my head, I can point to the fact that the Catholic Church practically put an end to arranged marriages, ended infanticide, preserved the works of classical antiquity, united Europe under one faith, established universities, charitable work, and hospitals.

I can't find my long list, but when I do, I'll make sure to get back with you.

    1. Does God exist? The complexity of our planet points to a deliberate Designer who not only created our universe, but sustains it today.

This old argument again? It's been debunked so many times that it's not worth the time and effort of debunking it again.

Atheism is like Liberalism an utopia born by mentally ill people and without any proofs. The adherents of this utopia can only harass and bash their opponents, but they can never support their claims by science.

Is it subjective to say Mozart was a great composer? Sure you could say so, but many musical experts would disagree with you.

Also, Catholic art is spread throughout the world. You don't have to be in the Vatican to appreciate it, lol.

Atheism is the ultimate cop-out. If they deny any spiritual absolutes, then there is no guilt for their actions, and then they can live their self-focused, and own lust-filled lives in what is just ego-masturbation.

They think that they have 'beat the system' since lightening bolts dont come right away for their rebellion, and ignore scriptures like, "God is slow to anger, and quick to forgive, " but also, "God's Spirit will not always strive with man." And as I've said B4, One's dismissal of truth does not make it invalid.

arranged marriages-no it didn't, it was never a strong social trend in europe to begin with and when it was practiced it was by the nobility, and it's no an improvement, many societies still prefer it and have no issues with it so seeing it's an improvement is purely subjective

infanticide-it never ended and still goes on

preserved classical works-as did the muslims, as did most cultures that have an educated class, commendable but not unique christianity...

established universities-as did muslims who did so earlier

charitable work-hospitals, pagan romans did so ...charity is a human trait not christian, our care for each other is the reason we surive throughout our history long before religion...

Because we read your book, and we do not ignore the inconvenient parts for the sake if conforming to modern society.

If you want to talk about perfect moral codes, then how about you dismiss such violent doctrines?

In my opinion only fools can believe a idea without any proofs.[/QUOTE]

I agree completely which is why I am an atheist (because your god requires proof), I understand that evolution is true (Because it has proof).

Also, atheism does not have a doctrine, it is not a belief system. I will explain this to you as an analogy: If not collecting stamps is not a hobby then not believing in god is not a belief system.

We, Christians believe in everlasting life and salvation, you, Atheists, believe in everlasting death and destruction, that's the difference between two believes.

Actually, atheists can still believe in some form of afterlife or reincarnation. Most don't, but they aren't really mutually exclusive. Atheism simply means the non-belief in God, as it has always meant.

What makes you think Christians are ignoring them. Have you ever considered that you could be wrong and Christians where never required to follow them in the first place?
