Thats kinda funny coming from a brit, the country that started slavery in America.

We had to kick your asses just to get the opportunity to stop it.

I like the british and by birtish i mean english people. I've yet to met any welsh or scottish people. Irishman are also great people. From my experience they're very friendly, hospitable, and have good sense of humor. They make good TV fiction and movies and their rock is pure excellence.

With that being said, the british peple in this forum come out as baring alot of hatred of americans, but that might be an internet phenomenon, we the portuguese get pretty well with the brazilians irl, on the webs, oh boy, I hate brazilians.

You were british then too! Exactly the same ppl. Only you chose to exploit slavery on a massive scale in america and that is what made you americans. We stayed here and had a very small role in comparison, you americans carried it on for 400 years.

I thought it was the Spanish and the Dutch that did that

A Franciscan Monk complained to ferdinand about the use of native americans being used as slaves.

So the spanish king sent african slaves, that was mostly in the Caribbean though.

Colonial American slave labor was Englands baby.

Nope, another failure on your part.

The vast majority of Americans came much much later, in the late 1800s early 1900s.

Do me a favor and hate yourself, for not knowing history... I get off work in 25 minutes.

Well, we aborted it. Slavery was found to be illegal in the UK and we abolished it in our colonial territories, apart from the bit under the control of rich tax-dodging traitors.

    Bye bye.

You were all ethnically british but what made you americans was your massive slave industry. We remained british and only had a tiny fraction of the trade.

    Wrong!

The dutch and spanish began slavery in America. The british then began it in north america 100+ years later.

I really think you ought to just speak for yourself, since, a majority of the Brits I speak with on a regular bases, all say the same as I have previously posted.

Mostly Caribbean? Explain South America. Far more slaves were delivered to South America than North America as reflected by the black/afro population of Brazil today (far more than in the US). The Spanish and the Dutch were the big boys with Portugal running a distant third.

Britain, while turning a blind eye to slavery in its colonies, had banned it in England since the 1700s

Don't mind me, I'm only british, our opinion of you shouldn't really bother you unless you are really insecure.

    I have a love-hate relationship with the U.K.

I think you've given the world some amazing music, films, and TV shows. Some of your policies make more sense than ours -- like how you take measures to reduce the media frenzy surrounding criminal cases and protect the rights of the accused better.

You also have some amazing figures in science and philosophy. Richard Dawkins and Stephen Hawking, in particular, are among the people I admire most in the world today.

Most of the U.K. also has a climate that I prefer over my own in that summers are far less oppressive in their heat than they are here. It might rain a lot, but I actually kind of like that.

On the other hand, you take social democracy a lot further than I'd like. A lot of your social policies are far too politically correct for my tastes, and the nanny state seems to be very expansive.

The cost of living in most of the U.K. is rather high compared to what I'm used to as well.

If I were to move to the U.K., I'd probably find myself at odds with the majority's opinion on a lot of topics -- primarily freedom of speech and personal gun ownership. I'd likely be a UKIP or Green party member, since the bigger parties are all significantly different from my own views.

Overall, I guess you could say that I view the British as being more intellectual than Americans on average, but too politically correct. A little libertarianism would likely help you some. ;)

The British used to be staunch and effective allies.

    Now, they are neither.

Like the rusty WW1 destroyers? The words are important, lend and lease. There was always a quid pro quo, so don't come all altruistic on us. And by the way, we paid back every last penny you lent us.

I think the WW2 nonsense needs to stop. If we hadn't supplied Britain with arms they might have fallen sooner and without the Brits holding out as long as they did we wouldn't have had any way of landing in the Northern European theater. We would have been only able to come up through Africa and the Germans would have had more troops available to repel any invasions because they would have had one less border to worry about. Both sides needed each other and both were vitally important.

I just hope that when the Great Canadian War starts up that the Brits will offer us some aid.

I formed my opinion of the British from movie Titanic when the wealthy, intelligent, tycoon CAL who survived the ship wreck said it best....

Cal: It's just the god(*)(*)(*)(*)ed English, doing everything by the book.

What rugby would that be? Their rugby is like their weather - torpid, persistent drizzle that wins once in a blue moon. And that from the country with by far the greatest number of playing numbers in any of the rugby-playing nations. When they get together with the Celts in the British and Irish Lions they look a bit better.

Personally, I find the Irish much more interesting. Although British wit is the best in the world.

Some of their accents are fabulous.

Others are like desperate concrete mixers deprived of gravel.
