I agree with most of your post, except for the last paragraph. Simply stopping identifying as a Jew doesn't magically transform a Jew into a non-Jew. Born a Jew, dies a Jew - as many European Jews learned the hard way not so long ago, though that's not my point. Nobody can choose a different ethnicity. You can't change what you are, even if those around you don't know what you are.

There are a number of studies proving that Jewish communities from Europe and MENA are genetically closer to each other than to the host populations, pointing to a common Middle Eastern ancestry. We Jews don't have to prove anything about who and what we are. The world demands that Jews, and only Jews, must prove their claims about their own nationhood. No other nation's credentials are constantly questioned and challenged, no other ethnic group is constantly harassed and denied the right to exist. Please stop trying to appease the haters. You were born a Jew, you are a Jew. It's as simple as that.
Why do you constantly return to your victim position? By your explanation there is also a Scandinavian gene, an arab gene, a gene for every large geographic group of people. Genes don't define ethnicity. BTW to be correct we are discussing groups of genes, not just one. One gene doesn't describe an entire population because it is too susceptible to variations.
I know that nobody can chose their ethnicity. I meant to say that in the US documents don’t identify ethnicity, so if one were to stop identifying as a Jew, which includes not wearing any tradition clothes, then others will have no way of knowing.
