So that's my point. You are placing the onus on Republicans. Why?

What exactly does it mean to "hold America hostage?"

So what's the problem with going back to 2022 levels of spending?

    Good LORD!!

This is NOT up to Republicans. It is up to the US House.

By the design of our government (by our founders) and the legislature's decision to have a debt limit, it is the House that must lead on issues of spending, budget and debt.

McCarthy has a job to do that was assigned to his position at our founding as a nation.

He can resign if he can not handle his job.

First of all, NOBODY is proposing that. Let's remember that major items such as defense spending for one are not proposed by McCarthy to be cut. Thus percentages of cutting he calls for are FALSE. The reason is that while defense, etc., are not cut, other important objectives would be cat FAR more to make up for that.

More importantly, our representatives in the House and Senate chose what issues warranted spending.

Having McCarthy hold America hostage to override legislative decision making is just plain NOT acceptable. And, it doesn't solve the issue we face - the debt limit.

If he wants to change the priorities as evaluated by our representatives, he needs to write a bill.

We face ONE ISSUE - the debt ceiling limit we face today. That means raising revenue to pay our debt or increasing our debt limit.

Why are you telling ME that? Tell that to @FreshAir who I quoted in my post you replied to! Maybe you missed it.

What the hell are you talking about? How is he not doing his job? Has he said that he doesn't want to deal with the debt limit matter?

You clearly didn't understand the post you responded to. Today, the House happens to be Republican. So, it is McCarthy who has to try to put on his big boy pants.

And, holding America hostage to his personal political beliefs is absolutely inexcusable.
He's not doing his job when he holds America hostage for issues that don't have to do with the debt limit we have accrued.

He has been specific about holding America hostage to cutting off aid to the poorest among us, for example, while protecting issues HE likes, such as the STUPENDOUS military spending.

Using our debt limit as a weapon against decisions our legislature has agreed upon is not excusable.

If he wants to change spending, he needs to WRITE A BILL.

Fake News. If Biden refuses to service the debt and refuses to send pension checks from incoming revenue, he'll need to be promptly impeached for failing to execute the duties of his office to the People of The United States. What is being trimmed a bit is planned spending that was budgeted by the previous Congress, that was in excess of the Debt Limit, that the same congress has agreed on.

You have completely misunderstood the situation. We have ZERO debt, above the debt ceiling. The debt below the debt ceiling is easily serviced by incoming receipts. Monthly receipts are about 6 TIMES the amount needed for debt service.

    Please be more specific.

That's sufficiently specific. The default that Biden keeps threatening will only occur if he instructs the Treasury Secretary NOT to service the debt out of incoming receipts, which are 6 times the amount necessary to service the debt. If he does so, or, if he refuses to send out Social Security checks, he should be promptly impeached for violating his oath of office and the 14th amendment.

    For your info;

    1. I was a Reaganite
    2. I was a Ron Paul mercenary
    3. I disliked Bush’s liberal policies
    4. I was a Tea Party member
    5. And today, an Independent center-right conservative.

    Now, in reference to the IRS additional funding;

According to my research/findings, there’s more proof that said additional funding will pay for itself THAN tax cuts pay for themselves.

Overall, I like the PROS of said additional funding.

My conclusion; Very fiscally responsible, and people’s opposition to said funding isn’t rational, it is just psychological…..”We don’t like Big Government, Period!”

    Now, here’s the compromise;

To roll back discretionary spending to 2022 level, Congress will need to cut approx. $135 billion.

The IRS additional funding equates to $80 billion over 10 years, thus, a fiscal average of $8 billion.

$8 billion equates to less than 1/2% of 2022’s discretionary spending, and fiscally, House Republicans only want to increase discretionary spending by no more than 1%.

COMPROMISE; Roll back spending, but let’s keep the no-brainer IRS funding on the books.

First, there is no shut down, there is a reduction in government, non essential staff are furloughed, and frankly, there shouldn't be any non-essential folks on government payroll.

Secondly, the House has already passed a bill to raise the debt ceiling by $1.5 TRILLION and it also requires some sensible reductions in contingency spending that the previous Congress wanted, in excess of the debt ceiling they also agreed to.

Dems are insisting on a dirty bill that just raises the debt and takes zero steps toward the Federal government living within our means.

While the GOP House has passed a bill that will raise the Debt Ceiling by ONE.FIVE TRILLION DOLLARS, the Dem Senate hasn't managed to pass squat.

McConnell has been urging Schumer to get on the stick and pass a clean bill that raise the debt ceiling and institutes some sensible spending reductions to start the Federal Government onto the path of living within our means, just like all of us have had to in the face of 27 successive months of real wages cuts while struggling under the Biden/Dem Red Ink Orgy.

The Senate GOP urges Dems to pass the House Bill and raise the debt ceiling by $1.5 TRILLION.

'House Republicans passed their own solution to the debt crisis on April 26. The bill—the Limit, Save, Grow Act—would lift the federal borrowing cap by $1.5 trillion while enacting' sensible spending cuts.

Dems conceded debt limit increases THREE times, just during the Trump administration.

Now, Republicans in the House want to use the debt limit to override the decisions made by our legislature over years of time.

There is no question that a clean bill to raise the debt limit will pass.

But, this additional BS from Republicans must be ended.

We can not possibly govern given more of these cases of Republican threats and hostage taking they use to try to override what our legislature has jointly determined.

Also, your idea that a bill that raises the debt limit is DIRTY if it doesn't include other Republican BS is just plain ludicrouse.

A clean bill has ALWAYS meant addressing one issue and one issue alone - which McCarthy and other Republicans have FAILED to do.

Beyond my other comments, Dems can't author a bill on the debt limit.

Such bills have to be authored in the House.

So, your accusation of Dems being inactive on the debt limit is YOU not knowing how our government works.

That is NOT what McCarthy is demanding.

It is Republicans who have used the debt limit as a weapon against the decisions that our legislature has made. They've pulled this crap multiple times in the past.

Just during the Trump administration, Dems have allowed the debt limit to increase as per Trump's desires.

Suggesting that the legislature AND the president are now supposed to pay off McCarthy on the backs of those McCarthy demands to defund is just plain stupid.

Right, so then "Republicans" and "US House" are currently the same thing.

How is he doing that though?

The debt LIMIT we have accrued? Or just debt? Otherwise I don't know what it means for a debt limit to be accrued.

And he did. A bill which increases the debt ceiling while rolling back spending to 2022 levels.

Again, you are placing the onus on the Republicans. Why? You just simply repeated yourself without answering. How are the Democrats not EQUALLY threatening to shut down the government if they don't get THEIR way?

the republican run FED is hurting the economy because wages were rising too fast under Biden, so if you want to blame anyone for your wages going down... it's the Republican run FED
