Why do atheist groups and individuals have to be so vulgar???

Why do atheist groups and individuals have to be so vulgar??? I saw a post from an atheist group today on Facebook and it was a cartoon drawing of god's balls hanging down from the sky on fire and burning a town and as the people ran away they said "it's finally happening God is tea-bagging us!" Or something like that. And it was put out by an atheist group that Facebook recommended for me.

And there's a YouTube channel called "Secular Talk" that puts out videos on some things I might like, but the guy in them uses foul language sometimes and it's putting me off.

I watch a lot of conservative stuff on YouTube, but I've been trying to get away from that because I'm a liberal and I've decided I shouldn't be listening to content that puts me down. But I have a lot of trouble finding atheist, liberal content I would like that isn't crude and vulgar. It puts me off.

 

you're right of course we should all be civil but I understand where it's coming from. For centuries nonbelievers have been persecuted, killed, imprisoned, tortured, banished, excluded, shunned, fired from their jobs etc. and now they feel it's finally safe to come out and say what they think get some verbal revenge. They've found their voice and growing fast in numbers they won't be silenced again.

 

Actually, they have always been the ones doing the persecuting, and when THEIR victims have had enough, you're going to see some serious ****.

 

Why are you selecting athiests to single out? Can you name any group, including religious, that doesn't have membership that includes vulgar people?

 

I'm singling out atheists because I want to watch their content without bad language.

Want an example of a religious person who doesn't curse while discussing the issues??? Look up "WGON" channel on YouTube.

Talk about rewriting history and I can still remember as a child being force to listen to the reading of the King James bible in home room at a public school on the days that I did not hide it on the poor teacher at least.

Yet another massive generalization to condemn all manner of people whose common bond is lack of belief in religious dogma. Even if some human values incorporated into that dogma are shared.

Vulgarity can be found everywhere. There are literally tens of THOUSANDS of videos, books and papers on the subject of atheism. Perhaps your experience in can't seeming to find any atheist youtube videos that discuss the topic rationally and without vulgarity has more to do with your search parameters than it does with your outrageous generalization

 

It's not search parameters, this is content recommended to me by an algorithm. I have no choice in the matter. A million bits of content and I only see what YouTube and Facebook wants me to see, which in my case it contains vulgarity.

 

gee, I did a search on youtube using the keyword "atheist". What I got in return was not a long list of vulgar anti-god rants, but a variety of different perspectives most of which do not use vulgarity and hostitility, but logic, reason and facts (in the absences of faith of course).

Looks more like you're itching for a fight with any and all atheists than anything else.

 

Just for start you might wish to download Tomas Paine book The Age of Reason written when he was in a French jail cell looking at having a good chance of having his head cut off.

Or the writings of Jefferson including his cleaning up of the New Testament supernatural elements name the Jefferson Bible.

vulgarity is also very subjective...what some find appalling vulgarity doesn't even raise an eyebrow with others...I meet all kinds of people, some vulgar and some not it's just the way they are...
I recall reading a study on vulgarity and it concluded people who swear the most are generally more honest then those who hide their true thoughts/words...

 

should we consider vulgarity comparable to blasphemy ? are atheists to silenced for their choice of words they express their thoughts on religion?...isn't that an issue with Muslims and killing people for criticizing Islam, blasphemy?

 

If a blind man was walking down the middle of the road, would it be an insult to tell him he was going to be mutilated by a car? "Many" Christians believe that by "spreading the word" they are possibly saving you from a horrific fate. The method may be offensive and seem judgmental, but the intent is from a very selfless and carrying position.

 

Revenge for what? They aren't centuries old. It's like blacks wanting reparations for people who were never slaves from people who were never slave owners. They're going to be nasty because of what happened to someone they didn't know 200 years ago?

 

Stop reading the Bible and you won't feel threatened. No one forced you to read it.
And since you don't believe what's written in the Bible, the threat is empty, so how can you feel threatened by what you deem to be fiction?

 

I have always believed that the lack of self control that leads to pointless and obscene language is just a knee jerk reaction of one who can't intelligently express their emotions/make a point otherwise. But yes, I suppose they are brutally honest.
