    Oh, so close....but so wrong.

Currently, in the US, only about 30% of polling places in the US use "electronic" voting machines.

The issue in F[l]orida was not with an "electronic" voting machine. It was a Votomatic punched-card system, in which the voter uses a stylist to push out a "chad" for the person they want to vote for. However, because the "chad" may become loose on their own at times, by State law, the vote can not be counted if the "chad" is not completely detached.

In Oregon, we use a vote by mail system which seems to work very well.

Just saying now that both the NSW and Qld branches of the ALP have been politically and electorally decimated, yes the federal IMPLICATION IS THAT ITS CALLED THE AUSTRALIAN LABOR PARTY,not the Queensland Labor Party or the NSW,

For all overseas friends of democrcay ,in order for the ALP to now survive economically the Victorious National Liberal Party, will hand over about $4 million in electoral taxpayer funds even though the ALP didn't get enough Votes to qualify.

    OUTRAGEOUS !

They needed 10seats to Qualify they look like getting 7to8 yet the Corruptly recieve $4 million ,no kidding .

The ALP,is stealing with the full agreement from the LNP Queensland government, Taxpayers hard earned.

I suspect the Coalition will win it. I see O'Farrell is slashing worker compensation in NSW.

    And so it starts.

This time, hopefully, the attack on working people will see a bit of a wake-up so next election after the one-term Coalition govt Labor will have found itself again and working people will have an alternative to the neolibs on both sides of the current parliament.

One thing at a time I always say. It's drifting about in search of a set of principles at the moment. A good belting in the federal election might be a fair start to the ALP realising what it should be and that's a party that has concrete principles and can offer an alternative to the Tories and the Agrarian Socialists. Anyway I'm hoping that will be the silver lining. I wonder if the Tories and their Coalition mates will go easy to secure a first term and then in the second term launch a full frontal assault on working people in Australia. It's only a matter of timing as far as I can see. Abbbott will have to respond to his masters' orders.

Australians vote with pencils because they tried voting with boomerangs but when they threw them away they just kept coming back.

Lol!!! Good one! The thread title did sound like the lead in to a good joke. I was thinking along the lines of getting the lead out of their asses but never bothered fixing it up nice and pretty.

That depends. If they are counting those votes via electronic character readers or some other older non-high tech method, that could be a reason. I don't know your age, but when I was in grade school, they tested us for knowledge levels once per year, and our answers had to be entered by a specific type of pencil: the old No. 2 lead pencil.
