Citizens of the US (or their ancestors) mostly gave up their own countries for the hope of money, 'believe' in a religion that says they are saved so bugger the rest and are wholly ignorant of other countries and the people in them. Above all, they are racists. Obviously they won't care for other people - unless they are rich and powerful.

The fact that we've never been carpet bombed ourselves. We could use one; maybe we'd start to understand the reality of warfare.

    Just answer the question.

Since when hasn't the American military recklously or randomly bombed an area?

Most of the people that say "carpet bomb them" are not even in the fight.

It is, but of course you think all Americans are like that.

Since I was given orders to walk on eggshells while providing CAS. I have never been told to carpet bomb an area. In fact, we are told to take extra care to avoid friendly casualties.

I think the burden of proof is on you. Let me know when and where we recklessly bombed an area.

Isn't that why oil is so expensive?

Well. Yeah. That's kind of obvious, isn't it?

Also oil pipelines, naturally. But yes, heroin, too.

I don't think you can have justice without empathy. Philosophical point, I realize. Nevertheless, compassion is a necessary ingredient in justice.

It wasn't done to benefit you. Or 99% of Americans. Just the ones that own oil companies.

    Laos 1964-1973.

2.5 million tons of bombs on a population of around 4 million people. The greatest bombardment of any country per capita on this planet.

Planes returning from North Vietnam jetsoing bomb payloads anywhere over Laos on their return to Thailand because crews wouldn't land with payloads.

So do you like war or not? And if you don't -- and no sane person should -- why would you criticize someone else for not liking it?

It would depend on the situation.

    For our own defense maybe?

Any act is justifiable in self defense. If I thought a nation was an immediate threat to us I would want them neutralized by any means necessary.

Request denied. As an atheist, I am willing to take that risk.

No I don't like war. And I'm not criticizing. I just don't like it when people act like everything involving death of civilians was intentional.

Understandable. I'm sure you can also understand why some people don't like it when people act like every civilian death was unavoidable.

First it comes down to why we're involved in the war in the first place. If all we're fighting over is the oil trade, the opium trade, and so on -- how many civilian deaths is that worth? How many soldiers' lives can be spent in such a pursuit before we feel like it was a bad idea? I think these are valid questions.

If we really were fighting a war to protect ourselves, I think we'd be doing it a bit differently, wouldn't we?

It occurs to me that I think I should point out that I do think we're fighting in Afghanistan for more than just the protection of oil pipelines and control of the opium trade. It's also a strategically important position from which we can exert a great deal of military influence over the region.

Why they never talk about that in the news, I don't know. It's like they'd rather we just think in terms of patriotic commercials than logical strategic moves, even if they're both in support of the same action. But I'm not even sure who the "they" I'm referring to is.

It is because the average viewer has no concept of "strategically importance". However, they can understand "greed".

So our American military personnel are mere "psychopaths" and "sociopaths"; they "have no souls."

Such a jaundiced (and seriously disturbed) view does not even merit a response.

So I will now leave this thread, and allow you to stew in your own juices...

No I don't understand. There are causalities in every war. There is no such thing as the perfect war.

We are not fighting a war over oil or narcotics.

Doing what different? Making sure we're more careful with civilians? I doubt it.
