Why do we need the FBI?

Sincere question. What exactly does FBI do that local law enforcement couldn't? Seems like all I've heard lately is they dabble in politics and try to subvert elections because they think they know better than the people. So how about we save a whole lot of taxpayer money and just disable it? We could reorganize and redirect any tasks they have that are actually essential. I suspect there wouldn't be many of those.

 

Before the FBI criminals could jump states and get away with it for the most part. The FBI has been a great law enforcement group and wasn’t really political until recent in my opinion

 

The FBI is capable of doing great things..........when they want to.

The appearance that today's FBI has become political, possibly corrupt, is a friggin shame. If I happened to be in congress, I'd present a bill where democrats and republicans can each assign a person of their choice to see and hear everything the FBI's leadership sees and hears. Same with the DOJ.

 

The FBI can do some great things, but the progressives have turned it into a police force that its thumb on the scale of justice in favor of them.

If a Republican president is elected, he needs to clean house. There is no excuse for the FBI to become a political agency. As it is, the FBI is losing the respect of a large number of the American people, except partisan Democrats.

 

Several things:

1. FBI investigates crimes on federal property.
2. Investigate alleged spy rings in the United States
3. Investigate cybercrime, terrorism activities, civil rights, public corruption, organized crime, and white-collar crime all within the federal jurisdiction. Federal jurisdiction always involves conduct that crosses state lines in the types of crimes I listed.
4. The FBI crime labs provide assistance to local law enforcement jurisdictions on firearms, drugs, explosives, etc. The labs are world renowned and were the brainchild of someone named J. Edgar Hoover.
5. They assist local jurisdictions on certain violent crimes such as kidnapping, homicide, bank robberies, etc.

The head of the FBI is lifelong Republican, nominated by republican President.

Last 2 FBI directors were lifelong republican too.

I am just wondering which progressive FBI director lead FBI in last 15 years?

 

Local is local, FBI investigates across states, it's federal.

 

Maybe just suspend it for like six months, put all the employees on paid leave, and see if anything horrible happens that wouldn't happen if they were there? And then go from there.

We were told Justice Roberts was conservative.

The FBI has become extraordinarily dangerous to our Constitutional Liberal Democracy. The FBI crime lab is worth saving, the rest should be rolled into the Marshall's Service.

They are interfering with the 3rd national election in a row. They buried the Biden Bribery docs for three years, yet opened Crossfire Hurricane based on a bar conversation with a low level Trumper, following up with the Dossier, which Biden and Obama knew came out of the Drunken Hillary Campaign.

Then they announced the arrest of Biden's political opponent, who is leading him in the polls, on the day that Congress was examining the FBI's Biden Bribery Doc that they had kept buried for 3 years. Now here is what is astounding. The Lying Fake News Media has buried the Biden Bribery and it's been Trump Indictment 24/7, but, folks still are aware of the Biden Bribery and majority of Americans realize that Biden is both corrupt and bribed.

Apparently the FBI is needed to go after political opponents.

 

Local LE investigates crimes which happen locally, while FBI can extend their investigation to cover multiple States. This is why they are called to investigate terrorism, organized crime operating in multiple States, cyber crime, WMDs, counterfeiting, and any crimes which involve investigation in more than one State. They also study crime, like serial killers so it will be easier to track them down.

So, yea, such agency is needed, even though populist propaganda outlets work overtime to undermine them, and turn public opinion against them even though they are only doing their job.

It is currently ran by a Republican appointee, but people are not happy FBI is investigating the crimes committed by their beloved political icon. If they refused to investigate it then they would indeed be corrupt, but fortunately they are looking into it like they did with Hillary. The accusations against the FBI are borderline absurd and promoted only by hardcore Trump apologists.

 

It would not matter, because local LE wold not have authority to make an arrest in another State.

 

The point being... it is not what they ARE investigating as much as it is what they ARE NOT investigating...

 

The partisan complaint is that they should not look into actions of Trump. What are they not investigating? They investigated Hillary long and hard. They investigated Hunter. Who else do you want them to investigate and why?

Modern day pseudo-cons are textbook examples of people who suffer from victim mentality, which is why they think there is some kind of conspiracy against them every time their crimes are looked into. The only way to keep them from complaining would be to grant them full immunity from the law, but that's impossible for the obvious reasons.

Trump probably assumed that winning the election in 2016 would put the FBI and the rest of our secret police/spy agencies in his corner.
When it comes to politics Trump has been a very slow learner. It may take a few years in Leavenworth for him to finally catch on.
