At this point Republican politicians are stooges because all they care about is cutting taxes on the rich and screwing everybody else as much as possible. We need Democrats in power with real power again for the first time since LBJ really. Obama had 60 votes for 35 days in session and we got Obamacare. As far as I'm concerned, the French are much smarter politically than Americans. the richest country in the world and no living wage health Care daycare paid parental leave cheap college and training great infrastructure and vacations. Every other rich country has all of that. communism!!!

I don't. Students arrive in history courses with the idea the deal is they memorize-and-forget. That didn't work in my class. They had to know, understand, and use what they were tasked with knowing.

They can get serious in high school.

It's too often taught by unmotivated teachers as a bunch of facts, never pointing out why any of it is important.

Those kids can succeed if they get good instruction.

 

It also helps if they live in a successful society. What a mess.

 

There are very progressive places in America--San Francisco, Seattle, New York--but most of the country is, well, unsophisticated.
