Treating certain couples differently than you treat other couples is not discrimination?
You must be using a different definition than me...

I explained why there is no hypocrisy and you have yet to address that post. I fight for gay marriage because it helps others, you fight against gay marriage while it helps no one.

Okay that's beyond creepy - this guy says that having an opinion is "dangerous" - on top of that the opinion isn't even that "gays are evil" or "gays go to hell", the opinion is just not support a specific piece of left wing legislation. According to Herr Takei, that's a 'dangerous opinion' to have.

Sounds like something that Goebbels, or the North Korean ministry of propaganda would put out. Honestly these gay Nazis scare the s-t out of me a lot more than someone who doesn't support gay marriage.

...regardless of what you call it though, who benefits from disallowing gays to get married?

    That's an insane strawman.

You have yet to explain how I'm being hypocritical. lol, all you do is go around the forum pretending to catch other people being hypocrites, but the actions are not in anyway the same. I'm fighting for something because I want to help others. You're fighting for something and it doesn't help you or anyone. I'm fighting for something because it hurts others if I don't; you're fighting for something that hurts no one if you don't. Is that simple enough for you to understand yet? Quit pretending we're doing the exact same thing when we're not. You can't come up with a single reason why you're fighting gay marriage because you have none.
And THAT is why you're stuck on this fake hypocrisy angle, because you have NOTHING else.

No you didn't. You tried to weasel out of a double standard, and you failed. The hypocrisy here is about as obvious as it gets. You believe that you should be able to promote something that doesn't affect you while condemning others for doing the same thing. That is the very definition of hypocrisy. You're just rationalizing your actions as being justifiable because you believe you are helping people. Even though you would never accept the other side claiming the same thing.

You never answered my question Unifier. How does banning same-sex couples from marrying help anyone?

Perhaps you're asking the wrong question.

Since you're still not answering it, I have to assume I'm asking exactly the right question.

    *facepalm*

Okay, let's try this one last time before I ignore you. You posted this thread asking, "What's with the obsession with something that will have no negative impact on your life?" I said, "I could ask you the same thing." Here we both recognize that, as two straight people discussing this issue, neither of us has a dog in this fight. So we are on equal footing. And there is now nothing you can throw at me that I cannot simply volley right back at you. Do you see the problem?

Regardless of how noble you might perceive your reasoning to be for your position on this issue, unless you are gay, your position holds no more weight than mine. So trying to claim that yours is valid and mine is not is hypocritical.

You either get this by now or you don't. Your next post will determine whether there is any point in me trying to further continue this discussion with you. Choose it wisely.

AKR has been throwing at you the fact that he fights in order to help others.
That is not something you can simply volley back, in fact you seem reluctant to even try when given the opportunity.
You seem to suggest that AKR's position begs the question of whether or not it is a good thing to want to help others,
which may in fact be a fair question, though the answer should be obvious, or at least to me it seems like it should.
Personally, my view is that yes, it is a good thing to want to help others.

So how about you Unifier? Do you think it is good to be motivated by a desire to help others?
And if you do, again I ask, how does banning same-sex couples from marrying help others?

Yes, we do. Do you have a problem with that?

Welcome to the other side of the argument.

Could you explain the other side of the argument? You prefer discrimination? You prefer being a bigot? You hate homosexuals?

The fact that you cannot understand where we are coming from does not make our position any different from yours in that regard.

That is right. We do not understand your position. What is it?

In his world, the only way to help anyone is to give them what they want.

No, he believes in equality. You seem to be against that.

He's aware that he's been called out for using a double standard here.

There is no double standard except in your mind. We believe equality is equality. You have a right so every individual should have that right.

You can complain that we are illogical but again we only see you being illogical.

    Let's try it this way.

It has an effect on my life. Gays are actively recruiting... shaping the language... shaping the culture... not to find acceptance exclusively, but to confuse the youth.

Gender= feminine masculine or neuter tense of a word. It relates only to grammar. To soften the implication of sexually confused people... the term gender is applied to ones own sexual orientation. To divorce the abnormal sexuality from the connotation and instead attempt to address self-identification to avoid the sexual nature of a person... because sex itself is fairly well defined throughout the animal kingdom, and its purpose outside of self-gratification.

It is a cultural war being waged on children. Public schools, government policy, all aimed at teaching the youth that this particular form of sexual deviance is "ok". There are scores of people out there, that just want to (*)(*)(*)(*) your feet. I think it's weird. You might or might not... I don't really care. What I do care about, is that you insist to my children that it is perfectly normal. Firstly... I don't know why you are talking to my kid about sexual fettishes to begin with... secondly... it isn't normal. It's (*)(*)(*)(*)ing weird.

What you try to teach my children has a direct effect on my life. Cant teach creation... but you can teach that men (*)(*)(*)(*)ing eachother in the ass is perfectly normal...

I look forward to your hate mail.

You mention the topic of the thread which asks why you consider it a big issue. We consider it an important equality issue. By saying it does affect you, you have not answered why you are against it to the point that you continually post about it..

What part of this do you not understand?

So...let me get this straight...You're saying you don't want to let same-sex couples get married
because you're afraid doing so will turn your straight children into gays? o_O

Well selective equality, like marriage between a man and a man, but not between a brother and a sister, or between 2 gay bothers/sisters.

You are not the arbiter of enlightenment. The definition of gender has been adopted to include homosexual language. That is my point. It never had anything to do with sex until the 90s. This is the reason I exampled it. This use of the word addresses the social construct of sexual roles.
    http://oxforddictionaries.com/us/definition/american_english/gender

I am aware I am the only one arguing the abuse of the language. This is how you create a revolution... changing the language to mean something else... so all legal definitions, and history, mean something else. I am a bit of a purist with regard to language.

I don't have a (*)(*)(*)(*)ing phobia... I see what is happening, and what has happened over the last 30 years of the gay movement. You clearly don't. This is why you don't know what gender means or when the nuanced social construct was included as a definition and I do. It is just one of literally thousands of examples.

No selectivity involved. We are talking about equality. If heterosexuals have a right, gays should have the same right.
