Why is North Korea ever included in the Olympics?

I don't understand why North Korea are included in any Olympics. Does anyone have answer for this? Why aren't they totally excluded? Why does the Olympics need them?

I know that there is the unification bullsh*t with South Korea at this Olympics, but I don't know what that achieves. What DOES this actually achieve? What is the next step? Is this really the beginning of a perfectly unified Korea Republic? The North wants this of course - but under the Kim family! So what is the point? I also don't understand why North Korea agreed to the unification nonsense, when it seems that they are always welcome anyway. Was there actually a threat of not being allowed to enter without the unification nonsense?

    Because they are a country.

Saudi Arabia treats it's women like dirt...why not exclude them (at the Summer Olympics)?

And America has committed acts of war, deliberately targeted innocent civilians (double tap drone strikes) and overthrown legally elected governments.

They have done FAR more against the world since 9/11 then North Korea has.

If you are going to ban NK, I say ban the U.S.A. and Saudi Arabia AND Israel (for viciously suppressing millions of Palestinians against their will) and...

    <Mod Edit>

They want the Team USA women's hockey goalie to remove the Statue of Liberty symbol from her mask because its "political".

Yea, to these IOC cucks freedom isn't the basic undeniable human right that the rest of us recognize it as, no, to them its "political".

That's the type of thing that troubles their minds.

A nation that beats its own people till they either die or endure long enough to be sent home to starve ...nah ...that's not on their radar.

Why let lefties even speak? It is usually some nonsense and babble but we need to at least be polite.

Actually, I think they should also be excluded.

    Deliberately targeted or collateral damage?

    Like what?

Surely you can't be serious. Regardless of some serious errors, they were part of a war in response to 9/11. The US government doesn't kill or lock up tens of thousands of its civilians for nothing.

It's hilarious that South Korea are on friendlier terms with their so-called enemy North Korea than they are with the US

In the modern era, the IOC generally doesn’t ban nations on the basis of external politics. The couple of recent examples (South Africa under apartheid or Afghanistan) were a result of political pressure. I’ve no doubt that pressure could be applied in relation to North Korea and see them banned but clearly nobody felt strongly enough to make it happen. It’s worth remembering that technically individual athletes complete rather than nations, which is why athletes from banned nations can often compete, just not under their national flag.

Helping end a decades long war that has killed countless people and destroyed the lives of generations on both sides of the border? Sport has always been a powerful tool for peace and co-operation.

On that basis, what’s the point of initiating any kind of negotiation given the parties are going to come in with conflicting ideas and wishes by definition? Unification may never happed and certainly won’t under anything like the current NK regime but a more peaceful relationship between the two nations can only be to everyone’s advantage and would be required if there is going to be any real efforts to improve the lives of the people in NK.

Possibly. I’ve no doubt there were some high level discussions about how it would be managed with an Olympics in South Korea and this was what they agreed to.

No, it locks them up for smoking a plant. Way more moral and justified.

You're just going to punish the athletes instead of the politicians.

cause we want to expose their people to life outside NK, that is the best way to disrupt the brain washing that Kim is a God and should be worshiped

Iraq had nothing to do with 911, other then the fact we were already there, why not start another 10+ year war over there while we are at it

Most people are probably too poor to own a TV. So how are they supposed to be exposed?

Liberals in charge of the Olympics don't want to offend anyone, unless its Russia of course.

Of course, but what you said didn't make alot of sense to me. Were you actually saying that we should be polite to North Korea? Surely you can't be serious.

Honestly, I believe that was just the tip of the iceberg. I think it is probably widespread, but most don't feel safe enough to talk about it. The U.S. has addressed many of these issues of late and now is the time for this to come out. Other countries, not so much. I blame the doctors foremost, but also anyone involved. Aren't doctors required to have a nurse present? Did the nurses and other personnel look the other way? Why didn't the children tell their parents? I just don't like it at all. Too many unanswered questions were let go because someone went to jail. It's giving me a sick feeling. I won't watch. Also, it is a worthless game of "we're better than you". Political games with no value except to the participants.
