Heh, funny how this thread is about censorship and I'm using the net to find a clean pic of a girl with a whip and come up with a cartoon. That's the way the world should be.

Again, there are state laws against it. Also, if we are to go by the definition of the airwaves as public and thus should be regulated, Internet should be regulated as well. I understand Internet is different from TV because TV is "pushed" and Internet is "pulled," but you still have not made a justification as to why it is that material that is "pushed" should be regulated while material that is "pulled" should not. All you have said is that there is a difference.

No, I'm using your logic to apply it to other scenarios. Using the logic that the government must protect adults from indecency, sex should be outlawed.

Not to long ago at all. There was a time when most American agreed on what was 'decent and proper' for society.

Virtually all of if not our parents, definitely our grandparents had the same cultural ideas on what was decent as did their parents before them and so on.

WTF happened??

How did we go from a nation that pretty much agreed on just about EVERYTHING to now a days having a nation where no one agrees on anything and says "don't you push your morality on me!"

At some point in the very recent past THE VAST MAJORITY OF AMERICANS AGREED ON SOCIAL DECENCY STANDARDS.

What HAPPENED?

Why can we no longer agree on what is proper and decent and the governments role in enforcing that propriety and decency?

We as a nation cannot continue to have 100 million different moral systems and codes! That (*)(*)(*)(*) is NOT going to lead to unity among us.

I want to know at what point in American History did we stop being a nation where everyone had the same shared vision of where America was going, what it was doing and what 'proper and decent' meant by simple social contract.

What happeend to common ideas of decency and virtually all of us agreeing on those ideas and accepting them as a society and codifying it into law? I don't understand it at all.

I feel like every moral value that was ever passed down to us by generations before us is being intentionally destroyed in favor of a hedonistic, roman sex society.

Sex and nudity used to be considered sacred. What happened to that moral paradigm?

More importantly WHY isn't sex considered a sacred act anymore? Why have we reduced sex to just another animal act to be performed at random?

There has to be some kind of moral continuity among society as a whole otherwise the entire society will crumble into a mess of competing moralities, and parents alone can't protect their children from exposure to all of them.

America was never about "do whatever you want as an individual and if your neighbor is offended to bad"

I don't EVER remember hearing Americans take that attitude until just recently when it came to accepted societal standards of decency.

(*)(*)(*)(*)(*)(*) there IS a civic duty to conform at some level with the whole of society. You can't just be a rebel libertarian all the time!

Like it or not there are certain social decency standards that have been passed down to a very large part of society. I know this may offend the 'individualists' out there, but (*)(*)(*)(*)(*)(*) there IS a certain social paradigm that was agreed upon a long time ago and we should conform to that paradigm and stop trying to constantly break ever social norm that has been passed down to us!

You can call it an "appeal to tradition" fallacy or whatever I don't care. Tradition matters and we should all be trying to achieve SOME kind of moral agreement on decency standards in society based on both traditional American decency standards and modern life's.

To completely toss out our puritan moral heritage is completely insane because it destroys the very moral underpinning that created this great nation in the first place.

Part of the reason we became "the greatest country on earth" was because we decided to keep much of our puritan decency and moral code.

 

Remove government, and everyone can decide their own morality amongst themselves.

 

I think maybe it would be for the best if you all don't think. The problem with witch-burning Christians is not that they have too little education, but that they have too much of it. After-all, what do people become who are intelligent enough to leave Christianity? They become god (*)(*)(*)(*) hippies and new-agers.

Probably not but after your debt is gone and your possessions you can do whatever you want. Not the best place to be obviously but when you have nothing hanging over your head you're more free than if you have to deal with stuff like debt and possessions. Personally I like my possessions but they tie me to my home, well my friends home anyway after that (*)(*)(*)(*)(*) fiancée decided to (*)(*)(*)(*) a bigger wallet. I often think about just leaving everything and moving out with my truck and my guns but there's nothing really for me out there. That's why I'm going to school to become a code monkey, or go back to the military. Kinda a coin toss at this stage.

I'll go as far as to say that I curse in front of children...I could careless what their parents think. Because in the long run it means nothing. To me children are too sheltered and need to be exposed to the real world as early as possible.

Your story is unfortunately the most common these days in America. The guy who said, "It's better to have loved and loss, than to have never loved at all" never fell for an American women in 2011. You need to live for yourself. I'm not saying kick puppies and push old people into puddles. The ultimate happiness is learning to love yourself. Don't go from living for the military, to living for a women, to she leaves you so you go back to the military. Sorry if it's not my place to say that. Just have a lot of friends in your boat. When you find yourself, and love what you find, the world will be in the palm of your hand.

I don't know what to say man. It sucks because you are right; American (*)(*)(*)(*)(*)es go after the biggest wallet they can get, and you're lucky to find those that don't and that aren't 2 people wide. I mean I figure I'm somthing of a catch; war vet, former infantry, working for a 4 year in computer programming, but that isn't enough. Unless you have money American (*)(*)(*)(*)(*)es don't give a flying (*)(*)(*)(*) about you. This is why I'm going to go mail order bride. May not be the best scenario but atleast I'm not getting screwed for my wallet. Love is fake anyway, just something American girls say to make you feel secure with them.

As for the military, I'm a soldier. As much as the right wingers might like to take that away from my at the end of the day I'm the guy that can take, give, and carry out orders to the best of my ability, which means short of garbage it's getting (*)(*)(*)(*)ing done. I'm tired of these (*)(*)(*)(*)ing reindeer games, I just want to be happy again, I just want a good girl that has the god (*)(*)(*)(*) common curtisy to tell me she found someone else rather than use me for the meer pittance I make so she can afford her fucing SUV.

At least then you don't turn the last 3 years into a (*)(*)(*)(*) memory that makes you want to kick your old mate in the teeth.
