For the US being a freest nation on earth, why do we try to pretend that sex is so taboo and that saying a "bad word" is life crushing? The FCC and ultra-right wing censorship groups (prudes) would have you believe if god forbid a child sees a naked woman he will be damaged for life, or if he hears less than classy language he will become damaged. I have tried to understand the reasoning but can't. Now I realize there shouldnt be nudity or strong language just for the sake of it but really, its a part of life. Especially nudity, its nothing we don't have as male and female. I would really like to know the reasoning for the gross amount of censorship on tv radio and other media. I have even heard rumors of certain congressman trying to have cable censored, a service we PAY for. Odds on that won't happen but still. I just don't get it.

1.) US is far from the freest nation on Earth

2.) The government censors TV and radio because they're jackasses... also because they like to violate the Constitution whenever they can

America is a crappy place that's why.

It really goes beyond me that these silly types, you know flag-waving Americans, really believe and go around tell everyone that their country is a model of liberty when you even can't say "(*)(*)(*)(*)" or "(*)(*)(*)(*)" on TV.

See? You can't even use it on the forum here.

In order for a society like America to sustain itself, certain pillars must be in place. The Founding Fathers understood this. The idiots of today do not. We are the Paris Hiltons of our country's history. Enjoying all the perks and having no comprehension of what it took to get here or why certain things are necessary.

This thread is the equivalent of asking why daddy won't buy us a new Bentley because we want one in a different color.

God forbid even a shred of modesty and propriety remain in society, or that parents decide when their children are ready to be exposed to certain things rather than some filthy dirtbag on the street or nude weather girl during the 5 O'Clock News.

Right... our founding fathers wanted us to regulate the press in the future to "sustain America." Okay.

Also, this thread is asking to remove the FCC. That saves the government money, it doesn't spend it.

Hard to reconcile that part with the rest of the statement if you are willing to surrender all boundaries.

Only parents should decide what their child should and should not see or hear. Not the gov't. It really is simple as "if you don't like it, don't watch it."

We don't. None of what you said is accurate. Of course, if you stood up at my grandmother's birthday party and said, "I'm sure glad to see all you $%^&*(! here," you might get a punch in the nose and we could all end up getting arrested for disturbance.

Or, although taking a dump is a perfectly normal and natural activity but should you decide to take a dump on my desk while I'm writing a memo, any of your parts hanging down might be in jeopardy.

I can understand though why you have so much trouble understanding things. You need to start with data that is accurate.

Next, they're going to make it illegal to walk around naked in front of your kids... or swear in front of your kids. They'll install cameras in your homes to make sure you're not violating the law!

Because if we use certain words in the media, someone's going to place a hex on us. Abrahadabra!

Legalizing suicide isn't the same thing as encouraging it.

But, with your passion for free speech, how do you feel about Rev. Sharpton's demands to have Rush Limbaugh removed from the radio?

If Rev. Sharpton can convince Rush that it's in his best interests to quit that's fine with me.

Why do you think people who support free speech also support Marxist Black Liberation Theology?

As much as I don't like Rush and think he spews nothing but hate. He has every right to voice his opinion just like everyone else.

Once again you inject God into something...lol.

What does this have to do with God? Is that your only line of attack?

Why do you need to watch filth on demand? What makes your lack of decency superior?

Why do people think watching sex, drugs, and just utter stupid crap is some form of awesome right and worthy to do? Who consideres wallowing in mediocrity a worthy goal?

Why does the government have an obligation to mandate laws based on their idea of morality?

Does vulgar language help you understand something better..? Does nudity and lewd acts help with the story line..? What exactly do you feel you're missing..?

I've been around people who could use the four letter words in a series and never catch a breath..it didn't clarify a thing for me except help me understand that they are basically ignorant.

I don't need either to get the gist of what's going on..my imagination works just fine...and I didn't inherit any voyeur tendencies.

Are you not dictating to me that I should shut the hell up and allow porn to be broadcast at all times on TV?

I await for you to explain how porn is decent behavior for TV. I want to hear this nonsense.

I want you to explain why you think it is right for you to use armed thugs to change television programming.
