I have put down 13 dogs in the last 12 years. So I, too, understand the process well. And in speaking with the vet involved, he admitted to it being the hardest part of his job. Mostly because of the trauma of the pet owners.

In Canada, the patient has the right to decide when it is 'their time'. They have to request it. That takes the responsibility off the family and the healthcare providers.

What if the gov't opts to limit what they'll spend on your medical needs? It's something I support. Caps on medical coverage.

Title of Thread - "Why not legalize euthanasia??? And while we're at it, legalize death for any reason???"

For the first question, euthanasia is legal in many countries and, if I'm not mistaken, some states as well plus DC. and of course there are rules, conditions etc. which must be followed. As for the second question, I'm not sure what the OP is asking.....

That becomes forced euthanasia for financial reasons. A slippery slope at best....just inhuman at it's worst.

    Well, self-abortion.

And with support and prior exploration of alternative choices.

As I said, I don't think we're anywhere near compassionate & sophisticated enough in this country as a whole. :(

But it happens anyway. The uninsured suffer and die.

I find it offensive that 'survival of the fittest' is the name of the game in 2018. With all the medical and technological advances that would cure, treat and heal, to make them available only to those who can afford them is, truly, inhuman.

Looks like crowd funding, #gofundme is the name of the game, as it should be. Why prolong, at great expense, what is inevitable? Want to save social security? Why keep extending the period everyone can collect it? I had an obese aunt, who had 4 hernias ... from stading up. 4 surgeries, and an abdominal mesh lawsuit settlement later, she died of a stroke. She also had a hip and shoulder replacement. Fell down going to collect her SS check from the mailbox. Icy sidewalk. Sued the landlord ... billed medicare.

It might be better if there were no insurance at all.

Then just about everybody would make their own decision that the time comes to cash one's self out and leave something for kin.

Because all those advanced technological frills cost tons of money.

I’m sorry. Dogs are hard. That’s a lot especially if your a dog lover.

It’s my understanding there are some well thought out plans in place in different parts of the world. I Hope someday it happens here. Probably should be completely a state issue but that’s another rabbit hole.

Good point on vet/owner interaction. Would be tough in humans too.

Yes, they do. Some believe their parents are a burden. The business is making huge profits, which is the real motivator. Isn't it?

Well, the second question was about legalizing suicidal desires in addition to clinical reasons.

The first was about legalizing euthanasia. I don't know what the legal status is in various places in America and around the world. I just barely remember there was a scandal involving Dr. Kevorkian.

Actually your second question was about legalizing death, not suicide, which is why I didn't quite understand it ;). Suicide is legal in many countries and I think even in those nations where it isn't, it's something not enforced all the time....

There is a huge difference between legalizing death or suicide...:D

Well, actually death for any reason is just that. People want to know why you want to die, and your answer can restrict the service of death to a person. So I thought that death for any reason would put exemptions to rest.

While I support a law that allows us to manage the end of our lives, this reminds me some of express lanes in grocery stores. The technology of express lanes works fine, however, most people are too stupid to process themselves in an express fashion; fumbling around looking for the exact change, can't make their credit/debit card work, don't understand the technology, make mistakes, etc. etc. etc. There are lots of examples of this in society in which the human is the actual problem. End of life choices will only work when the humans become capable of understanding the why and how of the process which primarily includes humans judging others and forcing their beliefs on others, in this case opposition to end of life choices...

I completely agree. I would have hoped that mankind has evolved to a point where everyone has equal access to technologies, medicines and treatments that can save lives. But that isn't the case...

the government should not decide for us.... the republicans AZ death panels were wrong - when the government decides it becomes about money, religion or partisanship?

Huh? And what stops them now from doing so? That doesn't make any sense to me.

Watch someone you love dearly spend days, weeks, months slowly dying, drowning often in their own body fluids. Watch them suffer in front of your eyes knowing that they want to go but if you do anything you would go to prison, but if it was an animal you could go to prison for cruelty for not doing anything .

And G-d wants us to suffer. .. Yeah I know.

I believe in my god because I choose to, not because I have been scared into it with the fear of damnation but with the knowledge of peace.

Yes the body is a temple but nothing lasts forever, even temples.
