Keep in mind religion is control.

Religion offers unity and community, it helps to ease inherent fears and superstitions, offers hope that there is something more. With religion declining and secularism rising a void has been created that must be filled. The needs are still there.

Enter political idiology ... the new religion. More and more over the years i see people cling to thier political identity with similar zeal as people who are religious. Folks defend their political affiliation with the same fanatical, closed mindedness as those of religion.

As i said religion is about control. It is no different for the left wing/right wing struggle. They fear each other and fight for control.

I really do not see a "strawman" in the observation that (a) the left claims that the results of climate change will be disastrous; and (b) this change is principally man-made.

Claiming that people who disagree with climate change politics of any stripe are "rejecting science" is just another way you all lose and lose, lazy dismissal without THOUGHT.

It's the language and tactics of CULTS, not mature, rational, educated adults, and rest assured when you do it, you lose votes from mature, rational, educated adults who might even agree with you or partially agree otherwise.

 

I'm not so sure. People, in general, don't really care about the earth heating up 1/3 of a degree sometime a century from now. What many do hate is being thought of as stupid by others. So the left pushes this ridiculous "science deniers are idiots!" ploy and the idiots who are afraid that the gig is up decide to go along for the ride in order to hide their comparative lack of knowledge compared to the boffins in the white lab coats.

People (like me) who have even a rudimentary understanding of the scientific method know that scepticism is at the heart of science, and that the method was adapted in order to better understand our physical world, rather than through pure reasoning.
