Why was the 2009 pandemic not taken ANYWHERE NEAR as seriously as COVID-19?

I'm glad that you acknowledge that Trump did not say that he knows more about the Chinese government than anyone. Red herring.

Your theory that he publicly spewed erroneous information and grossly misrepresented the lethal threat the coronavirus posed to the public comports with his failure to take needed measures in timely fashion like South Korea and others. I don't believe that those who were duped by him into underestimating the consequences (concerning which medical experts were warning him) were lulled into a false sense of security for very long.

533,378 diagnosed cases in the U.S. and 20,601 dead is a powerful way of negating fake claims such as it being "under control!", was a "problem that's going to go away!", or that "everybody's getting better!"

Blatant lies have a limited shelf life when they are exposed to harsh reality.

The lure of the self-serving falsehood for Trump was amply displayed when, within hours of Pence admitting that the US does not have enough coronavirus test kits to meet the demand, Fake Don scoffed,

    Screen Shot 2020-04-12 at 8.06.18 AM.png
"Anybody that wants a test can get a test!"

One self-obsessed addendum that he shrieked did make an ironically valid comparison:
"And the tests are all perfect like the letter was perfect and the transcript!"

What was MY red herring? You brought up all the things that Trump says he knows about more than anyone else. Why?

I cited Trump's documented praise of Xi and China regarding COVID-19.

You brought up the unrelated matter - "Yes, but did Trump saying that he knows more about the Chinese government than anyone?" - and I suggested that you ask him.

His praising Xi and China in no way suggested that he knew anything.

Corona and the regular flu are both viral in nature, but very different as well in the way it spreads.

so does ebola is also a virus, same with zikka, H1N1 and many other type of virus, its all called virus. the fact is trump downplay it, when SK/singapore/hong kong and rest of east asia start doing lockdown very quickly.

That was because China wasn't very open with information about the Virus. You're condemning someone over semantics?

not sure how its not open, they freaking lockdown city of 11million in jan, i would think thats a big clue. also WHO report its a new virus in early jan, even i been track this since early jan, no doubt with US govt resource they were tracking it too. is it not the job for Trump to get ahead of this, why rely on china info, how about trust the medical staff early on instead downplay it for almost 2 month. there is no excuse on this, he just try to blame everyone else except himself.

It wasn't until January 10th did China release the genetic data on the virus. On January 31st Trump restricted travel to China. Blame for what? Attempting to keep the people calm like Obama did? The argument is just silly.

That's my point! When he praised Xi and China, he might not have known what he does now!
