Where does competence and training come into that equation?

The Inconvenient Truth: No one can, 100%, prevent criminals from obtaining and using any kind of contraband including guns. But that doesn't mean we shouldn't try. And it's certainly not an excuse to abandon all hope of curbing gun violence with Comprehensive Background Checks and Training.

"Knowledgeable professionals" like all the police that supervised the systematic massacre of 19 helpless Uvalde victims? Think again.

“Don’t be buffaloed by experts and elites. Experts often possess more data than judgment. Elites can become so inbred that they produce hemophiliacs who bleed to death as soon as they are nicked by the real world.” Colin Powell

Yes, it means the people should be encouraged to carry concealed handguns, and that every effort to interfere with their right to arm and defend themselves should stop.
IOW, it is probably time to disarm almost all of our police so they cannot prevent the public from keeping the peace as happened in Uvalde.

So your solution is to arm everybody and let God sort it out? The truth is there are very qualified security companies that have years of experience protecting buildings and people. Should they be thoroughly vetted absolutely, should they be used and relied upon when applicable, definitely.

Not true; it means that people should be encouraged to get trained before carrying concealed handguns.

Whoa, I thought your side was on the side of the police? Just because one man in one department, with an otherwise stellar record, made a bad call using bad intel doesn't mean we can't trust all officers everywhere.

Less massacres in some places than others.
However for gun massacres on little kids America is the best.

    Oh really.

Link to the portion of the story where it says they were "making it up", because that's not what you said originally.

    The common sense part.

When someone says "drive to the store" on here do they caveat that with "only those who passed a drivers test, non-blind people, etc etc ad infinitum".

Except "we" aren't doing that. WE require people that drive on our streets and highways to learn the rules of the road and minimum driving skills then demonstrate the assimilation of that knowledge through testing and a practical driving test; BEFORE we allow them on the road by themselves. We do nothing to ensure people buying a gun have any idea how it works, how to care for it, how to load it or unload it or handle it safely by any measure. NOTHING!

No you don't. People enter the country illegally all the time that drive without licenses.

We don't require people who buy tylenol, which kills more people every year than AR15's, get training either.

We don't require chainsaw training, meat slicer training or ladder training either.

    The LOLZ continue.

    https://www.bellinghamherald.com/news/traffic/rules-of-the-road/article108421942.html

Indeed, in a 2011 study conducted by GMAC Insurance, nearly one in five drivers weren't able to pass a written test of basic driving knowledge, the sort that license applicants take. But even though most people passed, there were some glaring gaps in critical areas. Eighty-five percent of those tested, for example, couldn't name the correct thing to do when approaching a yellow traffic light, and only one in four knew how to calculate the safe distance for following a vehicle.

That's not what I said. Please look at it again.
Needing guns to protect yourself from people with guns is an admission that guns are a danger.

No, it's an admission that people are a danger.

How many people did the Mongols kill and did they use guns or no?

Maybe we should start, but I thought this thread is about improving gun safety.
Right, the standard dodge; it can't be enforced perfectly so phuk it.

What you're missing is 4 out of 5 people CAN pass the basic driving test. Are you saying that ensuring 4 out of 5 gun owners knowing what the hell they are doing, at least on paper, is a bad thing? Wouldn't even 15% would be a big step in the right direction from where we are now?
