I don’t think China is a part of any major military block at a level where they’d be willing to go to war for. They are also well equipped to defend their homeland and do a real land invasion. So, China is not really capable to fight the US outside of China, but it definitely can take a giant slice of Russia and surrounding countries.
Russia only got nukes and has military alliances but with very weak countries. If one were to ignore nukes then Russia would be considered even a weaker opponent than China. Russia is being silently exploited by China now because Russia wants to have an image of being together with China which makes Russians think that China will protect them, some even think that together they’ll become a new superpower.
In reality China has a mind of its own and wouldn’t get into real armed conflict over Russia unless Russia made significant concessions like turning over all of the Siberia + Far East to China.

So, a WW3 is not really feasible unless Pootin completely loses touch with reality, but then it would be over for Russia really quick (thought painfuyfor the rest of the world).
