You made the assertion that it was "12 out of millions." I merely pointed out that you are ignoring the potential data set. I did not pull any numbers from anything as the only number available was the 12 members of the final data set. You considered that the entire dataset, which seems to me a good example of pulling the numbers from one's behind. Oh, and bypassing the forum censor is a violation of forum policy.
I never said otherwise, sure there are unhealthy people with tattoos. The act of getting a tattoo, however, has nothing to do with personal health, unless of course you're getting it from some hillbilly who's been sharing needles. Why you are tying the two together is beyond me. The "Act" of getting and living with a tattoo and the "Act" of eating yourself into an early grave are two seperate "Acts". Get it?
No, I'm not, I'm acting as if you're overweight, which you are. Which to me is a far less intelligent life choice than one who gets a tattoo.
I don't understand the rationale.I like paintings. My home has many paintings I have acquired over the years. But I don't understand what Liking Tattoo's has to do with having one permanently plugged on one's skin. Tattoo's are permanent.More or less. They to me are a childlike infatuation.Like loving Comic books as a teen then eventually growing out of the phase. I think it can lead to Tattoo addiction. The need to feel one has to have another Tattoo or else they aren't complete.Like our Body's are some unfinished jigsaw puzzle. There's a gal at my bank who is very sexy looking in the face and really built nice. But she has Tattoo's all over her body. She usually wears pants and a blouse that cover her arms.Plus there's a Gal,also very sexy at one of my Liquor Stores. She seems to constantly change her hairdo's.She has a huge american flag right above her boobs.I think she doesn't really know who she is.People who know themself would not experiment thinking a Tattoo is gonna make any difference.
Tattoos are permanent, last time I checked...expensive laser removal aside. One can make better health choices...stop smoking, eating healthier, exercising...at any point in their life. Heart surgery is common.... Unless a person has terminal cancer...it is never too late to improve one's health and be on course with a normal life expectancy. Neil Armstrong....is still going strong in his 80's and this was his quote... "I believe that every human has a finite number of heartbeats. I don't intend to waste any of mine running around doing exercises."
Explain the rationale behind people spending thousand of dollars (if not more) on paintings? Do They NEED them? Is there an addiction? Sometimes people just do things because they like them, and everybody likes different things.
I'm 205 lbs. on a 6' 1" frame....as I type this. For a few years I carried an un-healthy weight, and I did something about it. My ideal weight for my frame and age should be 180 - 190 Find the study that carrying 15 lbs. above ideal will take "years" off my life or that I'm "trashing" my body beyond repair. I have no heart or lung disease, my BP is normal...I have some hearing loss...but beyond that... I'm in good health approaching a 1/2 century of life. What any of this has to do with tattoos is beyond me, aside from your cheap shots.
If you believe that crap, you've lost it. If you think a person doesn't take time off their life by smoking, over eating, etc your insane. Paula Dean has decided to start eating healthy and has lost a ton of weight. Guess what? Her out of control behavior still left her with Diabetes. Over eating/eating unhealthy damages your heart, cardio vascular system, and a slew of other systems FOR GOOD. I can only laugh at the "heart surgery is common" now as if your expecting it. Good grief. Get real with yourself.
I thnk sometimes, Mr. Kronik, you just like to argue for the sake of arguing. Like having a permanent chip on your shoulder. You know that anger will take "years" off of your life... Jokes aside. My comment was..."tattoos are dumb." Never stated, I've never made dumb behavioral choices before..or that I'm a walking, talking living proof of how a person should behave. Having been a commissioned military officer for 19 years...I can assuure you that physical fitness was a big part of that. They don't issue pilot wings to chubby over-weight guys. Towards the latter part of my current life, I did make poor choices regarding eating habits and exercise...I gained an unhealthy weight as a result. Part of it was depression being diagnosed with prostate cancer and feeling fatigued.... I've since got my "act" together and getting on track to healthier habits. I could die tomorrow for all I know, but based on my current physical condition, I'm not in the high risk category of heart or lung disease. Could I run a marathon? Probably not. I see no evidence that aside from a 30 minute walk everyday and eating healthy..that excessive exercise extends years of life. Life expectancy is largely genetic. Obviously there are behavioral choices which can effect that... Failing to see my hypocrisy by noting dumb behavior when I never stated I am immune to dumb behavior. Start a thread on weight gain, and I'd make the same comment; over eating is dumb behavior..but the topic here is tattoos... Like I said, you just like to argue and put down people...why I don't know. I don't go out of my way to personally attack folks on here...just giving my opinion..... You may have the last word on the subject of tattoos... have a great rest of the day and regards to your lovely wife and daughter!
I suggest reading "The Power of Critical Thinking" from the Oxford Press. http://www.oup.com/us/catalog/gener...s/CriticalThinking/?view=usa&ci=9780195377927 Its a cheap education. Wait until the Scientific American Bookclub has the text book on sale. You might actually understand the nature of debate after reading the text book.
Yer not making a lick of sense which explains why you feel the need for Tattoo. A Painting can be bartered or held for as part of an inheritance. It may gain worth with age. Or one can just toss it in the garbage.Or have a Garage sale. I like many things but don't want them as part of me,24/7 like a Tattoo. I think people are being Tattoo -whipped.They feel at a loss w/o another Tattoo. There are literally at the mercy of their Tattoo addiction.Which again makes no rational sense to me.If I have an addiction to Booze or drugs at least there is some gratification or benefit { euphoria }. If I'm a collector of stuff I can put it away until I feel like looking at it.Even a new hairdo isn't a permanent exercise in trying somethng new. I think most people who get Tattoos haven't really given it much thought. It's more a lifestyle.I knew a Tattoo artist and he was a rude bastard. He had a Tattoo Parlor and a pool hall.He was a very loud bigot. You knew exactly what he liked and didn't like. He was as obvious as a Bull in a china shop.He was a bore. But my best friend at the time was a practicing pool hustler and I had to put up with the Tattoo/Pool hall in order to shoot pool.
You know I'm a prick who loves to argue, that's no secret. If I argue with my wife I don't get layed, so PFers take the built up rage. In all honesty, few things touch a nerve with me more than hypocrites, and especially someone who starts quoting Leviticus as an argument to anything. I have a gay sister, someone very near and dear to my heart, so when I see some fool start quoting that book it throws me into a angry state of being.
My wife's best friend is COVERED neck to ankles in tattoos: full sleeves on both arms, both legs, full back piece, several on her abdomen, one on her butt, one between her breasts. Most people she works with don't know she has any tattoos...she's a nurse.
My wife's best friend saves lives for a living as a nurse. She'd even save yours. One of the PA's at my doctor's office has at least one tattoo (a nicely-done rosebush winding up one calf). PLENTY of people with ink have contributed to technology!
The only one Tina got on impulse was her first...she says it's still her favorite. It's a caduceus on her right arm, done the day she was able to add "RN" after her name. She spent almost a year before finalizing the piece on her back..
I thought this was interesting and particularly relevant to the thread: http://www.statisticbrain.com/tattoo-statistics/
More word salad from the Fool. A couple of her patients have seen her tattoos...usually, patients that had their own tattoos. The only clue anything is out of the ordinary when she's working is her dozen earrings.
No comment necessary. It just plays into this new Age of anything goes. No conformity necessary.Whatever feels good just Go fer it. Throw standards out the door.Forget that Patients have a right also. To be protected from guys like Alice Cooper or Ozzie Osbourne in their heyday. You just proved the nincompoopery of today. In this vein Dante was correct. Hell is taking place right here on Earth. " therefore within the second circle lie simomiacs, sychophants, and hypocrites, falsifiers, thieves, and sorcerers, grafters, pimps, and all such filthy cheats." -- Canto XI
I don't smoke or drink, and I have three tattoos, all of which I spend months thinking about before I actually got them. They all mean something to me and I will never have them removed. So having a tattoo means I am more likely to smoke and act like a whore? I don't smoke and I am certainly not a slut, so your opinion goes down the drain.
I don't find them attractive at all. I see them as graffiti on something beautiful. Just my personal preference.
