Some people seem to really, and I mean really not like tattoos on other people. Any explanation as to why? I personally don't have any tattoos, but I don't mind them on other people and find them to be quite sexy if properly done on a woman. Thoughts PF? Pics of your tats? I saw this image of a beautiful tat and the comments on it sparked my interest in the matter:
Tattoos on women are skank. Especially this trend to getting near full body work done, totally nasty. On men, not quite as offensive but still mostly trashy. I have several I got in my early twenties and would prefer that I had not scarred myself.
I have several tattoos and every one of them has meaning behind them. Tattoos are a form of art, meant to display a connection between the imagery & meaning to the person bearing them. With that said, I know a lot of people with tattoos...both men and women. Some of them have tattoos for the very same reason I do, the connection. Others have them purely because they think it's "cool". Either way, I have no problem with them. As for whether or not I think it improves upon the attraction of someone, I personally like females with tattoos more than ones without them. A lot of times you can look at someone with tattoos and get a better understanding of who they are without even talking to them (that ties back to that whole "meaning behind the tattoo" theory)
For me, it depends on what it is, where it is, and it's quality. For example, I have a hard time thinking much of someone who tattoos their face. I don't like to see gang symbols/slogans all over people, and don't like crappy ink work. Here's a huge collection of tattoo fails.
Old Testament: Leviticus 19:28, "Do not cut your bodies for the dead, and do not mark your skin with tattoos. I am the Lord." One could argue this applied to Israelites and was more a cultural rule than applicable to Christians... because the New Testament establishes a new covenant with God and clearly we are not to judge one another on appearance given this new covenant. Personally, I come from a generation that did not have a favorable view of tattoos...they were for bikers, sailors and ex-convicts. I'm old-school in that regard...the body is not a canvas. However, this comes down to personal choice and if someone likes body art, within moderation, I have no issue with it. Coming from a military background, there is no shortage of inked personnel.
I'm the proud owner of several tattoos. Palm of my hand, left arm, both legs, and back all have various art on them. I don't regret any tattoo I've picked up over the years.
I've got two. One I'm not all that happy with and I'll probably get it covered up. The other needs a bit of touch up work, but I still really like it. I'm planning, soon, to get a very large on my back. I am having some friends do the artwork around my story, and am casting about for just the right artist to do the tattoo work. There is some absolutely amazing work being done out there. Work that is photo-realistic and truly unique. The best artist I have found for the style of tattoo that I want is in London and I'm toying with the idea of flying there mainly for that reason. Unlike Herk, I think the body is whatever you want it to be, and tattoos can be great works of art. Over the years I have shed materialism and have tossed out most things that, while I have loved or treasured, I do not want to remain attached to. A tattoo done right is a form of art that can be carried everywhere, never taken away, and, if it is, I'd probably be in no position to complain. I do agree with others here that it's unwise to have them in highly visible locations. It's your body, but having a tattoo on the face is probably as bad for employment prospects as having a felony record. Worse, maybe, because an employer has to do a background check to find your felony record. My wife is all for me having a sleeve, but I won't until we are financially secure or in a position to only take the type of clients who will appreciate, rather than frown, upon that sort of art.
I usually sport water based tattooes that way if I don't like it I could always change. When going to the beach however I try to get a more professional job to appear legitimate so I go for the Henna tattooes
I can deal with them on a man but I totally hate them on women and on my own sons...LOL....they don't count as "men" in this case. My youngest has two...he just got a second one.

I have one....a once beautiful stylized image of a Harley bagger I built in the early '90s. It's on my upper right arm, and due to the Florida sun, my construction business' no shirt policy, and an aversion to sun screen, it looks like (*)(*)(*)(*). I thought about getting it redone or covered, but I'm 51, and in the grand scheme of things, eff it.
Tatoos used to be worn mostly by drunken sailors and prison jockeys....Now idiots of all ages and genders have made themselves into ridiculous looking walking comic books. Skanky tatooed women are now the rule rather than the exception, many are fat and most are stupid...Tatooed women used to be mainly seen as a circus sideshow act...Step right up, there is a sucker born every minute....
I have three and planning on getting more. I'm saving for a huge one, all down my left calf, and it'll be a 3D one. I like most tattoos but it depends on where you put them.
Check out inkarmy.com It's a feature of some of the best artists in the world and many of them do amazing 3D and photorealistic work. I just found the artist that I will use on there.
This thread has reinforced the statement in my OP about some people really not liking tats. I haven't seen anyone give a solid reason. Why do tats make girls look skanky or guys look oafish? How did you form your opinion on the matter? Why does it make them less of a person or not as good of a person? How is it detrimental to you? Would you be unwilling to work with someone because they have tattoos? Think about your response and instead of just telling me what you don't like, explain why you don't like it.
Why are you being sensitive about it? Some people don't like tattoos, or fat people or skinny people...on and on. If you like them, and it's your body...why care what others think?

Exactly. One should carefully consider one's future dreams before getting that sleeve or neck or face tattoo, or destroying the earlobes and eyebrows and cheeks with piercings. You may not have any desire to work at a bank or be a lawyer, but even if you decide to have a business that brings in professional clients, it will limit you to a subset of possibilities. If you want to be a barista all of your life, or work in graphic design, then it's probably going to be work out well.
So is this going to be like the last tattoo thread? Where a bunch of people without tattoos conjure up a bull(*)(*)(*)(*) physiological exam of those that do have tattoos while sitting upon a high horse?
I have two. My husbands name on my right ankle, and the number 6 on the back of my ring finger. No one ever knows!
