yup, I live in Wisconsin and our Governor just put us on LOCKDOWN FOR A MONTH <--- no you didn't read that wrong, a MONTH. Are you kidding? The small business my husband and I have been building for the last 10 years will be DONE!!! FINISHED!! BYE BYE - but as certain as I am, our Governor will get his government paycheck as expected....

Do you own a business? i'm going to go out on a ledge and say no you probably don't. I own a small business and I have 81 year old father. So I care about both. I also have young children, who I care about as well and they are not in school as we speak. I have worked very hard to grow my small business from the ground up. I live in a State that just put us on lockdown for 4 to 6 weeks. Yes, 4 to 6 weeks? are you kidding... So that will kill my business, as well as most other small businesses in this State. My business supports my family. Without it, we will be in massive financial trouble. Most people believe there is a better solution, as to where we aren't killing people's livelihoods while we quarentine for an undetermined amount of time. Perhaps you have a job that will continue to pay you, but we stand to lose everything we have worked so hard for. That is hard to stomach. I am not willing to believe at this point that we can only have it one way....When speaking to my 81 year old father, he says he should stay isolated because of his risk, but he feels like we are ruining his grandchildren's future by shutting everything down. Truly this is crazy.... here is our scenario... I have small business with 8 employees. I can NOT open my business with this lockdown order, BUT i'm okay to go stand in a grocery store with 100 people or my local Target that is packed because it's one of the only places to get things besides groceries...People I have conversed with were totally on board with a 2 week lockdown. But 4 to 6 weeks?

I come here every now-and-then to see what people are thinking/saying. It doesn't take me long to remember why I end up leaving....

he is just about as shallow as one can be... seriously I wish I could sit here and not worry about what financial ruins I'm heading for and what I will do. why do i have to pick between my business/livelihood and my father. My own city just announced a 30-day closure for many businesses... and we don't have a single case of the virus within a hundred miles.

 

So then YOU need to stay at home, I agree with you. But i'm a 45 year old healthy woman with a business of my own AND I DON'T NEED TO SIT AT HOME. I CAN GO TO MY OFFICE and run my business. I'm not going out socializing with others, I'm going to work, my business, my livelihood that I have worked so hard to build. It supports my family in total. Our Governor has issued a 4 to 6 week lockdown where I have to sit in my home and pray my business can survive it. Which I know it can't. But I try to pray and have faith that something will happen to change it. Maybe naive, but otherwise I will have no way to pay my mortgage, support my family and I don't know what i'm going to do. Want to talk fear? I have to not show the fear on my face each day I wake up and begin home schooling my children, who are sick of being locked up. two months home will give you 10 or 15 more years so i'm all for your stay-in, however I will be financially ruined in 4 to 6 weeks of little to no income.

It is unfortunate. Truly. The choice of financial ruin at the behest of democrats who would destroy our economy to induce folks malcontent. It's feckless, it's frankly un-American. But it's what democrats do these days. I can't think of one single event where they have materially disappointed the people more than they are today. (well, that whole unwillingness to give up slaves is likely worse...) but never in my lifetime have I seen a group of people so desperate to force folks to bend to their infantile needs.

I am retired with several different retired income sources. This has not affected my income.

 

So when Trump was excoriated for shutting down travel to and from China on January 31, who was right? The xenophobe or the globalists?

 

The US and UK were going to go for 'herd immunity' 80% infection rate but this would have resulted in millions of deaths - I have heard that put lower as 500,000 for the UK and 2.2 million for the US but more than could be expected for the general population to accept. The UK seems to have changed from their original position which has been described as letting those vulnerable die for 'herd immunity'. This appears to be because the Government was willing to listen to the Medical Experts. We now appear to be going somewhat late by the buying time route.

I think you in the States are more vulnerable. I heard a Texan Governor or someone claimed today that the old were willing to die for the future of the economy. Trump also has been speaking of stopping lockdowns before they have done the job. I looks likely that you will be the world leader in cases by the end of today (Wed). I hope your Government puts people's lives before profit.

 

In a way this is good news. It shows cogently how sick, sick, sick this man in the Offal Office is.

Yes, I do own a small business and I was in the process of setting up a 2nd one when Covid-19 started. Both of my businesses are now shut down and since they depend upon tourism I suspect that neither of them are going to earn a dime for at least 18 months to two years. I have a MIL in her 90's who does not live with us and we are seriously concerned because she has visiting health workers.

Yes, this lockdown is going to hurt me financially and there is nothing I can do about it at present. I have paid the wages of my staff for the next month and will continue to do so for as long as I am able in spite of not having any income from my businesses.

I am DISGUSTED by the GOP wanting to give $500 BILLION of our taxpayer dollars to pay CEO's BONUSES and shareholder dividends while IGNORING the plight of small businesses like yours and mine. The Federal Reserve has already stated that it will provide loans to greed obsessed corporations. They do NOT deserve to get another dime from us.

The ALTERNATIVE to this lockdown is even more BRUTAL than having to take a financial kick to the groin. My business would go under if it became responsible for spreading Covid-19 and then it would NEVER recover. I suspect the same would apply to yours too.

So what I want is for Congress to BAIL out Main Street America and hardworking Americans this time around. If they want the economy to rebound they need to ensure that We the People have the money in our pockets to spend.

Anything short of that should be PUNISHED by the VOTERS in November. Vote AGAINST the CORRUPT GOP Senators that want to give OUR TAX DOLLARS to corporations instead of We the People.

Needless to say there will be plenty of gullible fools who will vote against their own best interests in November but that is no reason for small business owners like ourselves to do likewise.

 

IMO this is not Trump's fault anymore that 911 was Bush's fault.

Nonetheless, both events illustrate what poor leaders we have in the White House. Both events were staged events, and POTUS in each case was just along for the ride.
