If you remember the history of the so-called European "civilization", then this news is not surprising.
In essence, the European "civilization" is the civilization of the cannibals. Think of the Crusades, the Inquisition, the total extermination of peoples (for example, the Tasmanians), concentration camps, the extermination of millions of Indians ... the slave trade ... fascism and the Holocaust ... the use of nuclear weapons ... and the like - all this and there is the so-called Western "civilization".
Another aspect, Western "civilization" is built on lies.
For example, everywhere to shout about the tyrant Russian Tsar Ivan the Terrible, during which, according to various sources, from 4 thousand to 7 thousand people were killed ... but to keep silent about the "Bartholomew's night", ( in one city alone, Paris, about 30 thousand people were killed.) All this in one historical period.
The most striking example of the difference between "Western civilization" from, for example, "Russian" was clearly demonstrated by the discoveries in nuclear science - the world's first nuclear weapon capable of killing many thousands of people is an invention of "Western civilization". .... And the world's first nuclear power plant capable of enriching humanity is an invention of the "Russian" civilization.
Therefore, news about mass graves of children is rather expected news when it comes to Western "civilization". Is not it?

Albeit tragic....and my guess therell be exhumations in other provinces like Alberta,Saskatchewan,Manitoba.....there is seismic work already underway in/around Lebret SK....where once was one residential school.

OTOH....this pales in contrast to Stalinovkas mass graves all over Ukraine,Muscovia,Baltics....etc, where exhuming possible sites may get you tossed in prison.....or if a mass grave is found through construction or however....its usually blamed on the Nazis,or whomever.:))

If we weren't the first to develop in such a way others would have done the same things. Indeed, others did the same things when they had the power to do so.

I hate to break it to you, but real life is not a fairy tale.

You don't have to make an excuse.
As I wrote above, the difference between the cultural code of "Western civilization" and the "Russian" civilization is clearly visible in the use of nuclear fusion - "Western civilization" invents a lethal weapon, "Russian" civilization invents a peaceful atom (NPP)

You say this despite their much larger peak stockpile of nuclear weapons, for decades. And by a considerable distance the worst ever meltdown.

I agree the yanks haven't been all sunshine and rainbows themselves, they're the only nation to have used nuclear weapons in conflict, but any argument which indicts them unquestionably also indicts Russia.

Better to look at what is happening using a class approach. Ask yourself the question - who benefits from the war? And everything will become clear at once. A music video from a British rock band will help you figure it out.

Mass graves is probably an exaggeration intended to gild the lily so to speak regarding the mere existence of such schools and the program as being wrong-headed by modern standards. Given the number of kids that moved through the place for as long as it was open, it is more like an unmarked cemetery.

That is, 215 children are not a mass grave for you? You specify your criteria for mass grave. For example, thousands of people killed in Iraq this is a mass grave? Or is it too little? Maybe Hiroshima after a nuclear explosion - a mass burial? How many corpses must be found to be considered a mass grave?

215 children over 80 some years in which large numbers of untreatable communicable diseases passed around all in a facility that housed 500 kids at a time makes this most likely a cemetery. Now when you can point to 215 kids dying at once at this facility and all being thrown into the same pit, let me now. Until then, you gots nuthin but pearl clutching.

Excuse me, were thse kids bludgeoned to death? Were they shot? Did they all die at the same time and under horrific circumstances?

Before WWII there were no antibiotics and children did die. If it wasn't so they, babies wouldn't be vaccinated. Seems to me like another attack on the Catholic Church, probably for monetary compensation.

Our problem in this country is that there are too many lawyers. They destroyed our medical system which was the best in the world with their litigations, and now they want to destroy the best social institution that ever existed; the Catholic Church.

Destroyer - As I said, I think it's just another attack on the Catholic Church. I just came across this interview by Vladimir Putin:

"Russia is an Orthodox Christian Country and there has always been problems between us and the Catholic World. This is why I will now say a few words about Catholics. Are there any problems there? Yes but they cannot be over exaggerated and used for destroying the Roman Catholic Church itself. This is what cannot be done.

Sometimes I get the feeling that these liberal circles are beginning to use certain elements and problems of the Catholic Church as a tool for destroying the Church itself. This is what I consider to be incorrect and dangerous.

Have we all forgotten that we live in a world based on Biblical values? Even atheists and everyone else lives in this world. We do not have to think about this everyday and go to Church and pray, thereby showing that we are devout Christians, Jews or Muslims. However deep inside us there must be some fundamental human rules and moral values.

In this sense, traditional values and ideals are more stable and more important for millions of people than this liberal ideal which in my opinion is really ceasing to exist."

Are you seriously? The Catholic Church is the best social institution? .... You surprise me.
Let's dive into the history of the Catholic Church.
Let's leave aside Saint Peter and his first successors: information about them is very inaccurate. Let's see what the founders of that religion did, which, in fact, degenerated into a system of exploitation, both political and commercial.
Even in ancient times of the pontificate of St. Peter, we find a sect of Christians, followers of the misogynist shepherd Herma. This is the sect of the Nicolaitans.
Under the pretext that a woman is a fiend of hell and was expelled from the depths of the underworld to the earth to seduce men, the Nicolaites considered it more moral to give preference to their own sex. As you can see, the ignorant monks of our era are nothing but plagiarists.
Note; the sect of the Nicolaitans was not made up of some vulgar scum. Nothing of the kind: their head Nicholas is one of the first seven deacons of Jerusalem.
Under Aniket, the twelfth pope, a sect of the Gnostics arose. They went to the other extreme, claiming that women are meant to be common property. Then, under the fourteenth pope, Eleutheria, the Valentinians appeared. They did not quarrel with both sects; wisely combining both points of view, they argued that all forms of debauchery were permissible.
By order of the seventeenth pope, Calixtus I, a church was built at the brothel and dedicated to the blessed virgin. Prayer cleans everything!
Urban the first should be specially remembered by the clergy: it was under him that the church began to bring income to the clergy. As soon as a person accepted Christianity, he was immediately convinced that earthly blessings impede paradise bliss. And the frightened eccentric refused money and everything that he owned.
The clergy of that time cannot be reproached for sluggishness if there was a chance to profit at the expense of fools.
Gregory the Wonderworker, Bishop of Alexandria, apparently really was a holy man, since he was canonized. However, this worthy prelate did not feel aversion to earthly delights either. At nightfall, like many churchmen of our time, he threw off his cassock and arranged merry feasts in the secret dens of his diocese. However, I dropped "arranged" for a catchphrase; in fact, Bishop Gregory belonged to the category of people who are called miser by the common people. This riotous priest was having fun for four in a circle of accommodating ladies and promptly disappeared at the very moment when it was time to untie the wallet. Unfortunately, one of the victims identified the bishop when he went to mass, and insolently, publicly, demanded payment for a pleasant night spent together. It is unnecessary to describe the face of the prelate! This time, Bishop Gregory had to fork out! All this did not prevent, however, the canon of Gregory of Alexandria.
Novatian was the first to be elected bishop of Rome during an orgy. To secure the majority of the votes, the future bishop had the ingenuity to get his voters drunk first.
The first of the hermits of Thebaida, who bore the name of Paul, was caught red-handed while committing adultery with his own sister.....
And I'm not talking about the Borgia! .... However ... any religion is designed to fool and control the masses.

    My experiences:

The difference between the Orthodox Church and the Catholic Church is that the Orthodox give more attention to the spiritual aspect of Christianity, this is why our monks and nuns are cloistered in monasteries, while the Catholic Church pays more attention to the social aspect of Christianity so that their monastic orders have schools, hospitals, etc.

As for the Church itself, it's a very structured institution that runs on a communist system. Priests are not married and are given a very small wage. This is compensated by giving them living quarters, meals, and a car - or at least in the US where the diocese can afford it.

If someone is sick and has no means, the Catholic Church would usually cover the cost no matter their faith... or at least in NYC. At times liberals had tried to force Catholic schools and institutions to go against the teachings of Christianity, and they were told that rather than bowing to them, they would close down all their institutions - something none of the States could afford since much of the work are either voluntary, or done by nuns.

Anyway this is not to diminish the marvelous work done by other religious charities Christian and otherwise, only that none of them have the monastic orders and the size and organization of the Catholic Church. This is why I said that it is the greatest social institution that ever existed.

    1. I gave you examples of who the highest church hierarchs actually were - the Pope. And believe me, I told only a small, most "innocent" part of what they really were. I advise you to read about the Pope of the Borgia family. There are many documents about him and it will be easy for you to find them. All other Popes are no better than the Borgia.
    2. Never in the history of mankind, not a single religious association (Orthodox, Catholics, Protestants, Muslims, Jews ... and anyone else) has done anything for people without benefit for themselves.
For example, look at Mother Teresa, who was canonized by the priests. But who was she in real life.
Look at her activities in India.
"She appeared wherever help and compassion were needed...."
But in practice, it turned out that Mother Teresa practically did not provide any real help. Now they would say that she simply "took selfies" against the background of someone else's grief.
On camera, she was affectionate. But in real life, witnesses showed - Mother Teresa introduced such methods of "help" that were comparable to the "regime of the day" of a concentration camp ...
According to testimony, the patients were lying in appalling conditions - on mattresses on the floor, and they lay mixed. The pains were relieved only with aspirin so as not to get lice - everyone was indiscriminately shaved baldly, which for Indian women, for example, is just a shame. No disposable tools, unsanitary conditions, no strong drugs - the abode of sorrow and suffering, which, as Mother Teresa proclaimed, people ennoble and decorate. She forbade giving people pain relief, fanatically arguing that the poor suffer as much as the Lord on the Cross. No professional doctors were invited to these places, and if one of the inspectors tried to tell the truth, they were shouted at him: the image of Teresa was unforgettable and indestructible.
Teresa saw her main task in converting as many people as possible to Catholicism. Patients were baptized without asking permission, almost in passing. At the same time, when an earthquake struck in her hometown of Skopje, Teresa did not allocate a cent from her already rich enough fund to help her fellow countrymen.
One of those who investigated the activities of the Mother Teresa Foundation discovered what could be called an economic falsification - when Mother Teresa assured that they fed a thousand people, in reality their number was at most a hundred. Non-Christians could not get bread crumbs from the hands of the representatives of the foundation, even if they were dying of hunger. Teresa's mercy was selective.
The story of the orphanage children and Teresa's foundation turned into a bright scandal, though later "hushed up". Somehow eerie documents surfaced, from which it followed that children from orphanages were being sold. The smell was creepy, but soon the story was "silenced".
By the way, the vehicles of the foundation, as a rule, were driven not by the orphaned and wretched, but by nuns. Teresa herself preferred to fly in business class or, more often, in a private jet. So she flew to Spitak, which survived the earthquake. Her visit there was widely covered, but somehow nothing was reported about assistance to the victims. Not a penny was received from Teresa and the victim of the 1993 earthquake - then the Indian province of Latour lost 8 thousand people. Millions of people lost a roof over their heads, but some organizations (but not the Theresa Foundation), in fact, remained unknown, erected housing for them,.... but Teresa appeared more and more in the photo.....
This is the true face of the Catholic Church. However, any other religion is no better. Once again, all religions (from shamans to new churches) are called solely for the personal enrichment and control of the masses.

Have you ever heard of projection? It's projecting or seeing one's own character and their intentions in others. Of course I know of the Borgia popes, but I also read the biographies of Catholic Saints when I progressed in my spiritual growth from Evangelical books - and I'm grateful to both for the growth they gave me.

Later translations of Greek and Russian Saints appeared, and I realized that they all underwent the same slander and persecutions - even by the clergy regardless of the differences in their religious traditions and the society and situation they lived in.

By the way Mother Theresa wasn't the only missionary in Calcutta. There was a missionary who had a hospital in Calcutta and who I believe was Lutheran. After he died his wife took over, and one day Mother Theresa asked her to help her out - which she did. Mother Theresa was feeding at the time about 40 thousand people and couldn't handle anymore.

When the Knights of Columbus told Mother Theresa that they would cover all of her expenses, and that she wouldn't have to burden herself with asking for funds, she said no because God wants people to give so they can be blessed. When a billionaire told Billy Graham that he would cover all his expenses so he wouldn't have to be burdened by asking for donations, Billy said no, and that God want's people to give so they can be blessed.
