Nah what we need is a government that doesn't believe that it's job is to micromanage every second of our lives.

We just need less government so that the bureaucracy doesn't have time to find ways to micromanage us.

This is for NEW GUN SALES. Its main purpose would be to prevent over the summer, some guy who has finally snapped mentally to just be able to walk into a gun store, buy the weapon and ammo, and go off to target whoever or whatever he wants to take his aggression on.

As to your second question, I wouldn't have an issue with that. The whole purpose is once again, to save lives this summer while we wait for further gun discussions among the Congress critters, but this simple EO (or whatever mechanism to implement) would give us valuable data to help devise a more permanent solution.

What? Just lock people up in an insane asylum? Is that what you're advocating?

And again, why is it that other countries have just as many mentally ill people, but they have nowhere near as many of these incidents as we do here? Could it possibly be the vending machine approach to gun sales we have in this country? I find that really odd because when I was a gun owner, I took pride in the safety of my weapon. Why would you be okay, considering there is no real way of screening people at random for mental illness, with anyone buying a weapon of war without some requirement of training and safety?

How about requiring a million-dollar liability policy if you just insist on buying the war weapon?

You need to qualify that "new gun sales" part if you're going to make it legislation. "new gun sales" could be interpreted as ANY gun sale as technically they're all "new" sales for the people involved.

Then you run into the possibility of that women "snapping" due to being afraid and just shooting her ex to get it all over with. You see, it's a catch 22.

Other countries actually do have better mental health programs than the US. Ours really does suck the big one.

And what is a "weapon of war" to you?

    Statistically insignificant and irrelevant.

Interesting...from a previous post of mine in this thread directed at someone else...

    Statistically insignificant indeed.

Also, you didn't define what a "weapon of war" is to you. Could you please?

I'm not going down your rabbit hole.

There have been 200 mass shootings in this country this year alone. These bullschit arguments are costing lives. Offer a solution, a real one.

I can't count how many times I've offered solutions on this forum. But you wouldn't like it because you're looking for a hammer more than a solution. But here's a bullet point summary.

    • Fix our education system.
    • Change our Justice system to be more rehabilitation than punishment.
    • Fix our mental health system.
    • Encourage manufacturing to come back to the US, this along with the above will help with reducing poverty.

Depending on your response I might elaborate further. The point though is that you can solve the "gun violence" problem without once making a single law against guns.

Btw, I addressed the "mass shooting" math also:

Of course. It is what we did from time immemorial until the last 30 or 40 years. Mass shootings were as rare as hen's teeth back then.

Perhaps they don't let sociopaths run loose in society.

It punishes the vast majority of gun owners who are not sociopaths.

Sorry no the president is not the Congress he has no authority to do that. President are law enforcers not law creators.

It's obvious you know very little about that history and the deplorable conditions we inflicted on people out of pure ignorance.

How do you know? There is no way at this moment to measure the accuracy of your statement because all that is needed to buy a weapon now is $$$. Maybe the surge in gun sales is for that very reason because they are mentally ill, that's why Repubs have resisted any psychological criteria for the past several decades.

Then feel free to fill me in. If this is true then perhaps we can do it better now.

    Use some common sense.

You've posted twice in this thread since Thursday when I last responded to your request for solutions. Yesterday and today. And all you've done is ignore my suggested solutions. That more than actually responding proves my point that you're "looking for a hammer more than a solution".

We should make everyone register their guns.... Except of course for the criminals who have them illegally because they have a constitutional right not to incriminate themselves.
