I saw a car strewn with right wing bumper stickers the other day. One of which said "The Patriots are getting upset." The other stickers made it clear the reference was not to the football team. It was to traitors who want to be thought of as patriots. Calling yourself a patriot when in fact you favor insurrection is delusional.....and disorienting. The line from 1984.........
“In the end the Party would announce that two and two made five, and you would have to believe it.”......comes to mind. So does MAGA.

From the beginning of Trumpery we were told the pictures we saw of the inauguration did not reflect reality. If you wanted to know what was real you had to listen to an inveterate liar. "What you're seeing and what you're reading is not what is happening." Don would have us believe liars are truth tellers. No wonder he spent so much time being interviewed on Faux.

Now he wants us to believe orchestrating a plan to steal the election by having, in part, the VP accept fake slates of electors rather than the ones representing the votes of the people is covered by the 1st A. Huh?

Orwell despised a lot of words. He wrote a whole essay on them in 1946. Titled “Politics and the English Language,” the essay takes aim at all of Orwell’s pet hatreds: excessive use of Latinate instead of Anglo-Saxon words; unwarranted use of the passive voice; mixed metaphors; clichés; and the phrase “not un-,” as in “it is not unlikely that Trump will seek office in 2024 if not barred from doing so.” (Redundant, fumes Orwell. Just say, “It’s likely.”)

But what Orwell is particularly angry about is imprecise language, and language that conceals rather than clarifies. Which, for him, includes most political language. “Political language,” he writes, “is designed to make lies sound truthful and murder respectable, and to give an appearance of solidity to pure wind.”

For this reason, Orwell argues, politicians are particularly given to lazy, sloppy rhetoric, filled with meaningless buzzwords and clichés. Political language, he says, muffles the sense of what is being communicated, which is so often indefensible, with an overlay of righteous justification. And as a result, those who get caught up in this style of speech — both its speakers and its listeners — find their ability to think caught and shaped by their impoverished language. They are no longer able to recognize a lie as a lie and a murder as a murder because the language in which they speak is so vague as to allow them to consider a lie an alternative fact and a murder a tragic yet unavoidable accident.

We read 1984 and Animal Farm in High School. We loved the books, but never thought reality would come close to anything like that. We never expected that actual living, breathing human beings with enough mental capacity to understand how to cast a vote would ever support somebody like Trump.

We were all so caught by surprise!

I will never forget the feeling I had on the night of Trump's election. It's when I came to realize, shockingly, that some Americans are as vulnerable to falling under the spell of a demagogue as citizens of other countries are. Naively, I had thought we were better than that.

I am not surprised to see you lack the self-awareness necessary to recognize it is you, not I, who has become enchanted by an egomaniacal carnival barker.

This from the guy who actively supports the assertion that the word woman can apply to a man with makeup on their face and a boob job...

Another leftist who firmly believes that voting against democrats and their administrative state would be tyrants amounts to an insurrection.

You realize how ridiculous that statement is given that you still quote Chomsky as part of your tag line...

What does Chomsky have to do with your enchantment by an egomaniacal carnival barker? Please explain.

One mans patriot is another's traitor. One sees Trump as a tyrannical dictator. Another sees Biden as a corrupt authoritarian. From the perspective of common good, there is no practical difference between the two. One mans insurrection is another mans revolution. They necessarily keep us so divided, because as long as they can, we cannot possibly unite against them.

Right. But the views of the former have some basis in fact though I would say wannabe tyrannical dictator since he failed in his attempt to name himself prez.

You mean like calling men women and women anything BUT women? Or how about "assault weapons" when talking about a gun that's been used for decades and is used in less than 1% of crimes where guns are used by someone? Or how about calling anyone that disagrees with the leftist narrative "white supremacists" or "xenophobes" or "nazi's" or "racists" or "uncle toms" or "house *****" or...<insert other derogatory names here>. And I can come up with TONS of other examples that leftists love to use.

Talk about throwing stones in glass houses.

Our concern for Trump's base has nothing to do with voting against Dems. I am a firm believer in the freedom to vote for whichever party/candidate one chooses. I don't look down on Republicans for voting Red. Why would I? It is a constitutional right given to us and I applaud all who do their civic duty and vote.

This is more about the following who have blindly supported Trump. I say 'blindly' because there was overwhelming examples of where a Trump presidency could take us as a country, but people chose to believe his words rather than seek out his actual history. And now that he has been criminally indicted, instead of allowing the wheels of justice to turn, they are fighting back saying that Trump is innocent of all. If that is the case, he will be found innocent by a jury. But to deny the fact that evidence has shown the potential of criminality is to be blinded. Again. If you believe in law and order (as I believe Republicans do), there shouldn't be this concern regarding indictments and trials.

Which wasn't the assertion. So why quibble? You're still willing to say with a straight face that a man in makeup and a boob job is a woman. why deny this?

I guess because I've never written anything on this board to suggest I believe that because I don't believe that. My question to you is why do you persist in attributing to me things I have not expressed and do not believe? Could it be because of an inability to make cogent arguments against the things I have written?

Interesting attempt. So, is this you, officially, telling us that you don't support the use of the word "woman" to describe someone who is a man who wears makeup and gets a boob job? So, for example, when you refer to Rachel Levine, you call him a man. Right?

America is caught in the vortex of TRAITOR tRump's artificial, adulterated, fraudulent existence that is being amplified by his MAGrate's that are out "Trumping" TRAITOR tRump in propagating deceit. They twist stories from the past to manufacture plausible what-about isms then use those what-about isms to justify TRAITOR tRump's lie's and crimes. Even IF the what-about-isms were true, which they're generally not, they don't justify anything TRAITOR tRump has done but, we get wrapped up debating the what-about instead of the very real crimes of TRAITOR tRump.

Our Nation is being taken on a joy ride of alternative facts that have obfuscated reality not just for MAGrate's but all AmeriCAN's. After TRAITOR tRump left Washington, while he and his MAGrate's were getting their second wind, there was a lull in the dissonance when America and the world weren't being constantly bombarded with TRAITOR tRump's lie de Jure. I remember thinking it was like coming up out of a dark, dank putrid hole into the beautiful fresh sunlight of reality. Unfortunately they came roaring back with ever more present and persistent fabrications about the election, documents, insurrection, what guilt is and isn't, our public institutions and our Government itself.

It's dizzying trying to keep a grasp on reality when confronted with TRAITOR tRump and his MAGrate's incessant onslaught of bullshit. Fortunately we have many real PATRIOTS that have kept the course and protected and preserved Government BY the PEOPLE. Everyday they prove what a magnificent and inspired document OUR Constitution is and, that there can be JUSTICE for all.
