The feeling is mutual Clarisse! ;)

Well, thinking this way, that if I would a socialist government in my country... I probably wouldn't. More like a centre-left, but not far-left. Hollande just seems like more of a hypocrite to me now, I've got my own reasons though. It's always like this. They promise too much things prior to elections, after getting elected many of the promises goes waste or cannot be accomplished... It's the same in Turkey. Is there a trustworthy or accurate-ish surveys that is taking place? Since you said he has lost 7% of support already.

Ahh, I think understand your concerns... and that why you tend do dislike Hollande. Thanks for letting me know your views, I appreciate it because I'm not very familiar with French politics, every knowledge counts :P And sorry for very late response. I've been inactive here for awhile :)

Yeah, patriotism should exist in every country, in a level where it doesn't turn into racism, or extreme in other words. Our issues with neihbours are remnants of past that we can't get rid of.

I see. So this election is quite pointless, but it sounds like something would be a bit useful if achieved as victory. Why you don't think UMP wouldn't win? You said they lost the main elections by a tiny majority afterall.. :P

Yes you're right.. That's why I define patriotism as "defensive nationalism". I think this is the perfect term to describe it. I also think you're one of us "defensive nationalists"! I wish the same with us (France-Turkey) either, I want to have good relations with all of neighbours especially, including Greece and Syria and even Armenia (though I'm hopeless about Armenia). I'm wondering what Hollande's attitude towards us will be like, though I heard there will be something like "second election" or second round or something like that in France? I mean, Hollande isn't president yet, or what is it?

Thank you for your words, yes patriotism is very good thing but it's sometimes seen as "exteremism" by some people... Of course this isn't a true description... Despite current political issues with France and Turkey, if there weren't Turkish intellectuals who were educated France maybe Turkey wouldn't even be a secular country , or it would be really diffucult to become for us. The Turkish word for secularism is "laiklik" and it's derived from "laïcité", which is a word for "French secularism" I think. So yeah I think it wouldn't be wrong to state France had a considerable role in Turkey's secularization, because of the intellectuals, and I praise France for this and current political issues won't make me ignore this :)

Hi Clarisse, I hope you aren't bothered with the heated discussions we have here.. Especially when you're a nationalist for a specific country it's very hard to get along with others. I'm a Turkish nationalist just like you're French nationalist... At least we could agree and have emphaty with each other, even a little. I think you're much more kinder and nice compared to many people on this forum. I hope you stay here longer, welcome to PF!

Hi Clarisse, welcome to the forum, I was checking out an intro of a friend and saw your name. I like it, and I must admit I have a weakness for French women and the french language~
