Far too many boomers are moving away from high cost of living, outrageous taxing blue states , like Massachusetts, New York, Illinois, New Jersey and California.

A recent poll showed 52 percent retirees from NJ are bolting to lower cost, low tax, red states like Texas and Arizona, Georgia, North Carolina and Florida. Baby boomers will take $40 trillion in wealth with them. The departure of middle-income people from welfare States site economic reasons leaving the state due to high taxes, defectively run government and Liberal political views

States like California, New York, and Illinois continue to in¬creased income and sales taxes along with welfare rolls. And neglects to encourage employment and self-reliance but opt for welfare as the desired option every time. Tax irrational States like NY, NJ, and California are absorbed in redistributing middle class wealth to parasites who think they are owed something simply by virtue of birth.

High cost of living is the main issue, especially in NYC. I'm grateful that it isn't a concern for me, the city is really awesome if you make enough money to enjoy all the restaurants, bars, entertainment, etc. But that's really what Manhattan has become--a playground for rich people.

I live in a higher tax liberal state, Maryland, I live close to work, 10 minutes away. I have co-workers who commute from PA for the lower taxes. Screw it! I'm not driving through heavy traffic for an hour plus twice a day to save on taxes! The gas money and wear and tear on the car, not to mention your brain makes it all pretty even in the end.

Rich liberal people. The same ones who support wealth redistribution yet, somehow, keep enough of what they make to live lavish lifestyles. Congrats, glad capitalism is working for you. Too bad you're trying to destroy that opportunity for others.

I think you have something there since no one can actually afford to retire at near zero % interest on our savings they must be going where the jobs are. You didn't see the demographics on the last employment stats I see.
"the September data confirmed that the whopping surge in jobs... was thanks to your "grandparents" those in the 55-69 age group, which comprised the vast majority of the job additions in the month, at a whopping 230K.This was the biggest monthly jobs increase in the 55 and over age group since February!

What about the prime worker demographic, those aged 25-54 and whose work output is supposed to propel the US economy forward? They lost 10,000 jobs."

The jobs 'were' there. Then along came the tax and spend liberals..Voila, the jobs left and those that made California a great state are leaving with their portion of the $40 trillion. Liberals wanted it..liberals are getting it. Eventually the poor liberals will realize that the rich liberals that stayed behind are as nasty as the rich conservatives that got out.

Um no theyre trying to enable that opportunity for others. Youre trying to make sure they keep their earnings for themselves.

Taking money from people who work hard and earn it, to give to people who don't work hard and don't earn it, still won't succeed in getting these people to the same level. If someone wants to live in Manhattan, the liberal's little Elysium, let them work for it. The kind of people who would want free money already vote for your party anyway.

People who wanted jobs and wanted to start businesses in new markets are who built California. The environmental movement and high tax policies of the last several decades put a stop to that.

Indeed but while your party is happy to see low taxes and low investment and simple borrowing to pay for burgeoning unemployment rolls liberals seek to invest in growth, which means employing workers.

If your talking about getting everyone to the same upper income bracket as manhattanites then forget it, all economies require a mass of lower paid workers to function. The world needs poor people in order to perform the most basic functions.

I don't think California belongs in that group:

California population growth rate highest in years
    by AP with Shirley Jahad
    December 13 2013
California's population grew by the highest rate in nearly a decade over the last year, swelling the state's ranks to more than 38.2 million, new population figures released Thursday showed.

As for the other states, we've been seeing a migration from the colder northern states to warmer southern states since air conditioning was invented.

Growth doesn't come from simply "hiring workers". There has to be demand for goods and services to justify additional labor. By your logic, we could simply "hire" everyone in the country who doesn't have a job, give them shovels, and have them dig holes in their back yard.

So what was the point of your objection "Um no theyre trying to enable that opportunity for others"? I was talking about the opportunity to make money and live in Manhattan.

People move south and west for the climate mostly. Other people move because of real estate prices. Others move because they have to for a job or a relocation. Anyone moving out of California is doing it because they have to, not because they want to. As for regulations, no one I know said "OK, I am sick of the regulations in California, lets sell our beach front home and move to Houston".

    One of two reasons

    1. To flee the mess they currently live in
    2. To infest less screwed up states...

Why have NJ retirees been moving to FL when they retire? Probably for the same reason they did decades ago. Red states are poorer and the cost of living is cheaper.

I took the money I earned in NY and bought a big place in NC where land value is a fraction of the cost. I may retire in NC if it goes blue again. Otherwise, it will remain a get-away.

It's the freeloaders and illegals that " INFEST" . And the democratic liberals that make the " MESS" .
