    'They Need To Be Charged':
Federal Minister On Residential School Perpetrators

    https://www.ctvnews.ca/politics/the...-on-residential-school-perpetrators-1.5486160

All well and GOOD - but I think his call for Justice is a deflection
For if this "talking mouth" wants to pillory all the Perpetrators,
................ Perhaps he should confront the Image in his MIRROR

For WHO is calling for the "Canadian Government" ITSELF
Its Ministers & Bureaucrats & its people be held to account ?

WHO is ready to offer more that mere WORDS & punishment
..........................635................................. to redress this Grievance ?

I should like to ask this "Right honorable Jason Kenney" - WHO he thinks is more guilty of HATE ?
Is it the people who regrettably burnt down a Church ? - Or is it the people who own and operate
the systems that MURDERED over 4000 Children of the people who burned down the Church ?

Perhaps if someone burnt down his Church he would better be able to "face uncomfortable realities"

    Let us HOPE SO

I can't help but feel that this is just another attack on the Catholic Church - not that their nuns are the most understanding teachers in the world. Forcing conformity on children was the one thing that both the British and Catholic schools seemed to excel in.

Catholic schools on a whole though, did have a great reputation throughout the world, even in Muslim countries. Only the wealthy could afford them - especially their boarding schools. So in that respect the native children were given an opportunity that other children did not have.

To believe that anything criminal was going on other than in the heads of the lawyers and projection, is a little ridiculous. I know the last time they found bodies, almost all the deaths occurred before the 1940's, and they ended in the 1950's - which would conform to the discovery and spread of penicillin and antibiotics.

As an example, on my fathers side of the family, half the children always died in childhood. So this bodes the question, did the Churches in the remote areas of Canada have the medical facilities to save them? Also were these children vaccinated for diphtheria and smallpox by the Canadian government the way they were in the US?

Since the burial sites do not have names, could it be that the Indian children did not have surnames? Also would it have been traditional among the Indians to bury their children and have gravestones? Also what name would they have put on the grave site other than their baptismal Christian name - which their parents would not have known them by anyway.

Then there's the question as to why these children were taken away from their families. Was it because the parents wouldn't comply with the education laws in Canada or the schools simply didn't exist. In that case the Catholic Church was covering the costs - which it usually does anyway.

I'm just waiting for this to become Canada's BLM, where the first nation's people are swooned to sway to the symphony of the political sideshow, while the Kool aid slowly drips through Canada's cannula under the guise of healing. It would be ironic if through "reparation" and "reconciliation", the first nation peoples lost the identity they fought so long to protect.

And I suppose the Holodomor is a myth too I suppose? The mistreatment of Native Siberian tribes by Russian colonists? And the gulags, they were holiday camps?

There's are name that describes your claim. Most people just spread it on their garden beds in spring time. You however are full of it.

You will study the question first. For example, what is a GULag.
Especially for you to raise your intelligence level - GULag is an abbreviation for "General (Glavnoe) Administration (Upravlenie) of Camps (Lagerey)." This is analogous to the Ministry of Justice.
Therefore, when people with a low level of education say that prisoners were kept in the Gulag, it only causes laughter.
The Ministry of Justice (Gulag is the Ministry of Justice) does not contain prisoners in any country of the world. The prisoners are kept in special camps. For example, in concentration camps, as the Nazis did, or as did in the United States with American citizens of Japanese descent. The British are also famous for their concentration camps. Actually, this is their invention in the war with the Boers.
Therefore, you, to begin with, study the issue. And if you have something to say about violations in Soviet prisons, then name a specific prison, then name the identified violation. And, of course, show proof.
But if you are interested in reading about the death camps, then especially for you is a photo of the cover of such a book released in the USA.

About the Holodomor. There was famine in the USSR, but there was no the Holodomor. The real the Holodomor was in the USA.
Based on the analysis of statistical data, historians and scientists estimate the number of victims of the financial crisis in the United States at more than 7 million people.
They use official data from the American statistical office. Considering the US population, the dynamics of fertility and mortality, immigration and emigration. Applying generally accepted and recognized research methods, historians and scientists come to a disappointing conclusion - during the famine of 1932-33, the United States lost more than 7 million lives.
According to American statistics, over the decade from 1931 to 1940, according to the dynamics of population growth, the United States lost no less than 8 million 553 thousand people, and the indicators of population growth change immediately, instantly, two (!) Times exactly at the turn of 1930/31 years, fall and freeze at this level for exactly ten years ... There is no explanation for this in the vast, hundreds of pages, text of the US Department of commerce report "Statistical Abstract of the United States"
Few people know - about five million American farmers (about a million families) at exactly the same time driven by banks from the land for debts, but not provided by the US government with neither land, nor work, nor social assistance, nor old-age pension - nothing...
It was called - defarming. You can see it here. (and if you want, we can discuss a real the Holodomor)

I don't what you're talking about, because I stopped reading the MSM when their lies started making me sick to my stomach. What I did read though, is that the children's deaths stopped in the 1940's and 1950's, and that's when antibiotics came into common use. If these children were sick for any length of time, of course they would be undernourished. Intravenous feeding didn't come into common use until the 1950's.

Out of curiosity, did any of the reports mention these things? Did any of the reports mention what the proportion of childhood deaths were within the native camps, or didn't they keep a record?

I'm not Catholic, but my sister in law was in a comatose condition for years, and my brother was fortunate enough to get her in a Catholic institution where she could be well taken care of since life to them is sacred.

I know that anyone, (or at least before the lawsuits started), who could not afford health care or even funeral costs regardless of their faith, would have had their costs covered by the Catholic Church. So no matter what their shortcomings are, it is by far the greatest social institution that has ever existed. So let's just stop knocking them.

The people suffered during the depression and wanted jobs, but no one starved. They did have less children though. People were shocked that my mother had 4 kids. Oh a whole though we're a very wealthy country with a strong work ethic, so the food did exist - that is with the exception of some parts of the Middle West with the dust storms. We were also a very devout country, and the Churches did exist, and those who had gave.

My father gave jobs to quite a few of my mother's relatives, but on a whole jobs didn't exist and that's what Roosevelt did. He created government jobs.

These are actual photos. Take a good look at them, do they look like they're starving? Poor yes, starving no!
Now if you went into Appalachia a few decades ago, you would probably see the same thing. [IMG]

There is no lack of mass graves in Russia. One problem is if you try to search and investigate it you might end up in jail for alleged pedophilia against your own daughter.

    https://www.nytimes.com/2020/04/27/world/europe/russia-historian-stalin-mass-graves.html

And it's not just him. Another guy who helped him was also declared a pedophile.

You see, in Russia pedophilia is defined as a crime of putting light somewhere you are not supposed to.

Actually, I'm competently cognizant of the catastrophic "blows" dealt to the culture of this community. I've asked these questions, and found a lot of these answers long ago, and if you have ever been invited to a pow wow, or a sweat, then you would understand they have fought and kept a lot of their heritage. It is brave, it is strong, and it is spiritual (and you are also correct in that it has been affected by attempts at systematic indoctrination, there is no doubt).

The symphony i allude to is more a cacophony i suppose, and it would only be just beginning. The composition isn't the headlines currently being made, but how it will be used in the future. This is where the politicians swoop in for opportunity to harness the perceptions of these people, harvest their votes, and to place them into the circus in a favorable manner. Where large portions of these people are scooped up by a party using psycological patterns to weild these people like a tool for elections and sway, rather than act with empathy and heartfelt justice, changing functions of the system to help secure the rights and freedoms for all people.

The sideshow is where politicians and powers throw out the image of how sorry they feel, how terrible this all is, how they are going to make a change, and invest as little as possible to have the maximum desired gains. It's done to show how sorry the system is, yet hiding the fact that the principles, people, beliefs and standards from the "system" that tore this heritage apart, are still the foundations driving the principles, people, beliefs and standards of the system currently in place. "Those savage first nation's (syrian/muslim/russian/jewish/blah blah blah) leaders (followers/sympathizers/allies) are criminal, and need our help to change their ways (religion/political process/economic fortitude) so we will benevolently indoctrine them with schools (democracy/toppled government/sanctions/chosen education formulas) to better their lives by living like us!". Same system, different day.

The "guise" will be these apologies and reparations that are only band aids. It is still just as difficult for a first nation's person to have proper representation in a court, had they been assaulted by an officer, teacher, store owner, citizen, etc, or need to protect their rights in any other fasion. Anyone who has needed lawyers and courts to protect their rights, or the rights of loved ones, should know that you need ALOT of money (and time, energy, mental stability, some education or ability to comprehend the entirety of the situation) to do so, and when your way of life isn't exactly money orientated, well, you're already a huge step behind defending your rights in this society, as a first nation's person or otherwise, and this is a true problem with society in general. Its much easier for a company of power to take legal action, or lobby changes in legislation, or engage in any other method to protect its interests and rights, than it is for any individual person.

Instead of actual change, I'm guessing "we" will throw some resource at the first nation's and waive "our" parties flag. Give them some spots in post secondary education (learn like "us", think like "us", join the workforce like "us"), invite them to be political leaders, even prime minister one day! (Engage in politics like "us", see Canada and the world's geopolitical entanglement like "us"), and this is where I fear some of the remaining culture of the first nation's people will be bled out. It would be interesting to see how much of the black community became CNN viewers after Obama's presidency, or a psycological study on African heritage among the black population of America over the last 150 years or so, how predominant this heritage is today, and the societal structures that led to (if so) the decline of African heritage among the black populace.

You didn't seem to understand the meaning behind my words, however this is a common thing for me, and it isn't your lack of comprehension as much as it is my lack at communication. I've never been a great communicator. I'm more cryptic, or poetic, or chaotic with my words and structure. More song lyrics than essay format if you will. I'm not very good at this stuff but that's ok. I'm not here to have my essay graded. I'm just here to try and open my eye a bit.

    1) The Rheinwiesenlager. Again wrong. The deaths at the camps in question were (in part) a response to critical food shortages and other logistical issues across Europe in the immediate aftermath of WW11 and impart a result of American abuse. There was mistreatment of some prisoner but it short term and resolved itself as soon as the logistics of large scale demobilization of German soldiers could be organized. The camps were closed by September 1945 after less than 6 months of operation. Which contrasts to the Soviet GUPVI & GULAG systems. The GUPVI system operated from 1939 to 1953! The Gulag? Operated from 1918 and saw an estimated 25 million prisoners interred at it's peak from 1928–1953 .During this period it saw in excess of 1 million deaths (all soviet political prisoners). In total well in excess of 1.5 million. Versus the highest reliable death toll figure for the Rheinwiesenlager which is 56,000. Most are a lot less.

    http://thecasualobserver.co.za/rheinwiesenlarger-americans-kill-german-pows/

    2) The official figure of deaths directly related to the dust bowl is about 7000, not seven million. Try using modern historical records for your results instead of old soviet propaganda sites. 7 million were made unemployed not killed.

    3) The direct of the Holodmore was the official government policy of collectivizing national agriculture within the then Soviet Union under Stalin.
    https://www.britannica.com/event/Holodomor

    4) The dust bowl was the result of poor agricultural practices and a series of prolonged droughts which occurred in conjuction with the Great Depression (making things worse). Hence NOT official government policy Unless of course it's your contention that the US government controlled the weather.
    https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S1875963715000798

    5) quote your links
    6) Because heres one that says your still full of that which cattle produce in abundance but is not milk!
    https://www.pnas.org/content/106/41/17290
    7) Fact following the dustbowl and great great depression the Federal government responded with major reforms which - in conjunction with the returns of the rain resolved ended the dust bowl.

Again, I find myself needing to "elucidate" more often than not, so, thanks for listening.

I'm actually a fan of your "Outrage" (at least what it stands for) Eadora. Don't change a thing.

This is truly a deplorable situation, and only a piece of the injustices suffered by these people. I cannot imagine any being with the capacity to close their eyes and envision this happening to their sons, daughters, brothers and sisters, feel anything but repugnance towards these actions and the powers responsible.

A well thought out and informative essay by a Canadian historian, Jessica O'Neill:

As a Canadian and a historian, I’m going to explain some of the key facts you need to know about the Residential School graves making international headlines.

I see lots of comments from people around the world who either a) think this is an overstated and politicised 'woke Liberal' story or b) had zero idea about this part of Canadian history. Some are wondering why there's talk of 'cancelling Canada Day.' So, let's talk about it.

I want to start by saying that for Indigenous people, this topic is incredibly distressing. The gaslighting in comment sections is equally disturbing. If you are Indigenous and are struggling with this news, you can call the National Indian Residential School Crisis Line: 1-866-925-4419. If you are Indigenous and think I have misrepresented any of the following information, please let me know. For the rest of us, let me explain a few things. Canadian and unsure about the history of Residential Schools? Non-Canadian and not sure what's going on? This is for you.

In Canada, the term Indigenous comprises First Nations, Inuit, and Métis people. 1876's Indian Act gave the Federal Government full control over most aspects of Indigenous life. Much of the Indian Act is still in place today.

Residential Schools were a government-mandated policy officially enacted in 1880 with the passage of the Residential Schools Act. (However, French missionaries' efforts to isolate and 'educate' First Nations children date back to the late 18th century.)

These schools were designed to 'kill the Indian in the child." Laws dictated that families must send Indigenous children as young as four to these boarding schools. There were no exceptions. RCMP officers forcibly removed children from families who would not comply.

The schools were often in isolated areas or on islands, as otherwise, children would constantly try to escape and go back to their families. If geographically possible, parents would camp near schools to catch a glimpse of their children and would be driven away by RCMP under threat of violence.

The schools were operated by churches. Approximately 50% were Catholic, and the remainder were Protestant denominations, including Anglican, Methodist, Presbyterian, United, and Baptist. Children were not allowed to speak their language or practice any of their cultural traditions under threat of beating. Religion was used as just one form of abuse.

The schools were overcrowded and often unheated. Children were underfed due to budgetary constraints, and also as a form of both control and punishment. Sexual assault was sickeningly commonplace and often doled out as punishment. Many otherwise healthy children wasted away from depression and homesickness. Some drowned trying to swim home. Others froze to death as they tried to walk home.

In 1907, the Department of Indian Affairs' 'Bryce Report' documented a 40-60% mortality rate at these institutions, mainly from tuberculosis. The same report showed that 90 - 100% of children suffered severe physical, emotional, and sexual abuse. Despite this information, the schools remained open for another 90 years.

Again - this is all documented fact. None of this is up for debate. Even the most right-wing Canadian understands this as fact.
The graveyards we are finding are filled with unmarked graves. Some include mass graves, in which more than one body was buried at the same time. This is not
new information. Residential School survivors have been telling us they're there for generations.

From 2008 - 2015, Canada was court-ordered to engage in one of the largest Truth and Reconciliation Commission processes ever undertaken. It was a condition of the 2006 Indian Residential Schools Settlement Agreement. However, of the nearly 1,300 schools Indigenous children were forced to attend, only 139 schools were included in the TRC.

The final report concluded with 94 calls to action, most of which have not been actioned, further eroding Indigenous people's trust in Canada. Many rightfully believe that the TRC was lip service.

Call to Action 75 states: "We call upon the federal government to work with provincial, territorial, and municipal governments, churches, Aboriginal communities, former residential school students, and current landowners to develop and implement strategies and procedures for the ongoing identification, documentation, maintenance, commemoration, and protection of residential school cemeteries or other sites at which residential school children were buried. This is to include the provision of Calls to Action| 9 appropriate memorial ceremonies and commemorative markers to honour the deceased children."
See, they were telling us those graves were there. I learned about Residential School cemeteries in the early '00s in journal articles. The information has been readily available. No one was listening.

On May 27, 2021, the Tk’emlups te Secwépemc Nation hired the services of a ground-penetrating radar team and confirmed what was already known. The remains of 215 children lay beneath the soil. "We had a knowing in our community that we were able to verify. To our knowledge, these missing children are undocumented deaths,” stated Kukpi7 Rosanne Casimir. “Some were as young as three years old."

On June 4, 104 potential graves were discovered by the Sioux Valley Dakota Nation at Brandon Indian Residential School in Manitoba. Of these, 78 may be accounted for (but that does not mean that those children were not also abused and/or died of preventable disease). Chief Jennifer Bone says, “We must honour the memory of the children that never made it home by holding the Government of Canada, Churches and all responsible parties accountable for their inhumane actions.”

And most recently, as many as 751 unmarked graves were located near the former site of Marieval Indian Residential School in Saskatchewan, associated with the Cowessess First Nation. Again, some of these may be accounted for. That does not diminish the horror. “This was a crime against humanity, an assault on First Nations,” says Chief Bobby Cameron of the Federation of Sovereign Indigenous First Nations in Saskatchewan.

I'm not qualified to speak at length about the generational trauma that has ravaged Indigenous communities. Generations of people are struggling with substance abuse as a direct result of the Residential Schools Act, yet many other Canadians don't cut them much slack.

Many of the homeless people in Western Canada’s tent cities are residential school survivors. There is also an ongoing epidemic of missing and murdered Indigenous girls and women. Despite making up only 10% of the population, Indigenous children represent 52% of those currently in social services care.
For the non-Canadians reading this, you should know that open racism towards Indigenous people in Canada is common and often socially acceptable. (I know this goes against our international reputation.)

Finally, you will see people arguing that these graves are the result of sickness and disease, as if that's somehow okay. You'll even see some people arguing that the number of graves isn't all that high, as life expectancy 'was lower back then.'

Yes, tuberculosis and childhood diseases do account for many of these deaths. But these diseases were allowed to run rampant through filthy and overcrowded institutions. Little malnourished, homesick bodies couldn't fend off the disease. So, they died alone, crying for their mothers.
And then they were buried in the place they hated most, with no record of their death. Some parents were never actually told what happened to their children. They just never came home.

To counter these bad-faith arguments about disease and ‘the number of graves not actually being that high’, we can again look to contemporary sources, such as The Bryce Report. 90 – 100% of children were abused. The schools had a documented mortality rate of 40 – 60%.

Of course, the childhood mortality rate in Canada in 1907 was high, around 25% - 30%. However, these figures include infant mortality, which is much higher, therefore skewing the data. A very conservative estimate puts the mortality rate from TB at Residential Schools (children aged 4 - 18) around three to four times higher than the general population.

Also, remember that these graves do not represent all of the children who died at Residential Schools. We have many oral reports of priests, nuns, and teachers incinerating bodies (especially of those beaten or abused to death) in furnaces, or disposing of them in other ways.

You need to know that these discoveries will continue. There were an estimated 1300+ such residential and day schools in Canada, and nearly 150,000 children attended them over the course of 117+ years. The TRC recorded 3200 official deaths, but some experts believe the number is closer to 15,000.
But the graves are not the only horror. The true horror is the fact that we've known about all of this for generations, and that we allowed it to happen until 1997. The shame is the ‘schools’ themselves. The graves are just a physical record of what happened.

This is not about ‘left’ or ‘right.’ Nothing I have written here is disputed. These are facts. The Federal Government, RCMP, local police forces, the courts, and many churches worked together to systematically abuse and eradicate entire generations of kids.

If you feel bad, that’s normal. But sitting around feeling guilty helps no one, especially not Indigenous people. Instead, consistently challenge these comments about ‘short 19th-century life expectancies' and ‘that’s not a mass grave.’ Challenge the people in your life who use racial slurs or anti-Indigenous rhetoric.
If you’re Canadian, write to your MP and demand that they action the 94 TRC Calls to Action. Share and amplify posts by Indigenous people, and include the Survivors' hotline. Listen to what local Indigenous people are asking for, and then help in any way you can – that includes donating generously to Residential School survivors. https://www.ctvnews.ca/.../how-to-support-survivors-of...

And at least for this year, consider skipping Canada Day 'celebrations.’ But whether you celebrate or not is less important than insisting on systemic change, donating to survivors, and advocating for the 94 TRC Calls to Action.

I am against Vandalism and see it as a mistake. But be Reasonable Rob!
We must come to understand the source of the Animus - that inspires such actions,
IF we are to have any hope of mitigating the problem. And in order to do that we must
............ be able to - even for a moment - place ourselves into the Other persons shoes.
    .............................

So for just a moment be "Reasonable Rob" and ask YOURSELF - What IF it was YOU
that had to endure an over the top Racist Government that clearly stated, by policy and
practice that it meant to Destroy YOUR Identity as a Human Being ?

What IF an Atrocity has been committed by YOUR Government directly & specifically against
YOU, because of WHO YOU are? - What IF these blatantly Illegal actions that have been taken
against YOU, are even contrary to YOUR Constitutional Rights? - What IF YOU have been told
that YOU no longer have the Right to Exist as an Indigenous Person and must - Assimilate?
What IF YOU are then told that YOU - no longer have the Right - to the comfort and care of YOUR
Children ? - What IF YOUR Children are then forcibly removed from YOU and are punished if they
speak YOUR Language, or in any way practice YOUR cherished Beliefs & Traditions. - - What IF
    they
are then jammed into said "Residential Schools" where they are Mentally, Physically and even
.........................................................Sexually Abused and many simply disappear into unmarked graves?

Now ask YOURSELF - What would a big tough alpha male like "ReasonableRob" do if such
Vile Injuries were visited upon HIM ? - Would he be out there, :overturning statues, and burning
    down churches
? - Or would HE be even more Aggressive and even more "Beyond Contempt"
....................................................................................................... in defense of HIS Family & Heritage ?

AlSO be Informed - though YOU may NOT believe it!

    Said QUEEN -
as was HER predecessors, were and are "The Official Head of The Government of Canada"
and as such are directly responsible for that Government - THE BUCK STOPS THERE !
    ............................................................................................................................................... as it were

And though as QUEEN SHE fills a largely Symbolic Role in this regard. It is HER duty to protect
    HER
subjects from the ravages of a Scofflaw Government and so retains what is called
"The Royal Prerogative" whereby SHE can refuse any Act of Parliament that abuses HER
............................. Subjects and/or the Constitution and thus cause the Government to FALL !

In that Obligation SHE failed miserably as "The Official Head of The Government" and

became Complicit in the attempted GENOCIDE of Canada's Indigenous Population.

SO - IF you have a Statue to tilt - [IMG] or :icon_shithappens: Crap to throw -
Aim for the [IMG] WHO resides A Top of the Pile of Racist GARBAGE - and that to any
..............................................867.........................Reasonable Rob will be seen to be the QUEEN :)

SO when Reasonable Rob closes his eyes what does HE see ?
........................................................ And is IT "Beyond Contempt ?"

    ..

Your numbers don't seem to add up. What am I missing? It sounds like a mortality rate of 2%-10%, depending on where you fall between what the TRC recorded and what "some experts believe".
