There is no bottom to Republican Hype. It's like your standing on a crevice that is soon to crack, everyone can see it, sense it, and you get on our bullhorn and say, 'crack wide open' and when the forces of decades of plate tectonics come to their inevitable fruition, and then you claim responsibility. That's what republicans have done with Reagan on the fall of the USSR.

No, 'Glasnost' and "Perestroika' were so named because of the forces that were in play that led to the event, and Gorbachev was the right guy in history to let it happen. Gorbachev's policy of Glasnost (Openness), led directly to the fall of the Soviet Union.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Foreign_policy_of_the_Ronald_Reagan_administration
According to David Remnick in his book Lenin's Tomb: The Last Days of the Soviet Empire, Gorbachev's perestroika and glasnost reforms opened the pandora's box of freedom. Once the people benefited from the reforms, they wanted more. "Once the regime eased up enough to permit a full-scale examination of the Soviet past," Remnick wrote, "radical change was inevitable. Once the System showed itself for what it was and had been, it was doomed."

The Congress of People's Deputies elects General Secretary Mikhail Gorbachev as the new president of the Soviet Union. On March 14, 1990. Had some other authoritarian been there, such as Putin, it never would have happened, they would have called out the tanks, as they did in Czechoslovakia in 1968 .

The 'Reagan Doctrine' was essentially to back anti-communist insurgents throughout the world. This put an end to détente ( the cold war ) but it increased tensions throughout the world, and though it contributed to the fall of the USSR, but emboldening anti-communist agitators in Russia, without Gorbachev, it would never have happened. But, it had a long range, though unforeseeable, consequence, it was considered by many in the KGB to be a massive humiliation, and many a Russian official hated America for it, and one of those officials was a guy named Putin. So, if there is any president in history who can claim fesponsibility to a foreign leaders hatred of America, which is to say, Putin's hatred of America, it is Reagan and the 'Reagan Doctrine".
    Hold your horses, partner.

Interest rates and inflation are controlled by the Fed. Who was the chairman of the fed under Reagan?

    Paul Volcker.

    Who appointed Paul Volcker?

Jimmy Carter, towards the end of his presidency, so he didn't get to see the benefits of that appointment.

But republicans were quick to give Reagan credit for it.
Popularity polls are polls of the public, who are subject to media manipulation.

I think the real poll are the polls by historians in which the methodology is scored in key areas:

and not just popularity, as is the case with polling the public.

. They score Reagan high, mind you, but Eisenhower and FDR score higher.

yeah, you're going to quote some right wing echochamber, blah blah blah.

I don't think so. Dems will come out on top.

Oh, you didn't whine when Reagan gave amnesty to 2 million illegals, eh?

Biden never actually supported reparations. He did a compromise ( to appease blacks, who voted him in office ) which was to back the idea of a study of reparations.

Amnesty I support, and the reason is that farmers are having trouble getting produce to market, and we need more immigrants, not less.

The ACA brought affordable health care to 18 million Americans, of whom I was one.

Was it perfect? NO, it had issues, but republicans REFUSED to work with dems to fix the issues.

These are not idiotic policies, they are good policies, much of BBB is sound, financially and lots of stuff Americans want.

Sure, you're going to find a few things in it that are porky, but all big bills have that, it's grease to get the skids of inaction in Congress moving. It's always been that way, and it will always be that way.

Sorry, no evidence of rigging, the right, in terms of the White House, are infested with criminals

    indictments.jpg

In the lower levels, it's about 50/50. But, at the executive Branch, repubs win, hands down in the criminal pissing contest.

But, that proves there is no rigging, because if it were rigged, why would it be (approx) 50/50 repubs and dems in the lower ranks?

Would you be willing to tell me what is being "shoved down your throat"? And, is this something that happens every time your candidate of choice is not elected or is it something specific to Joe Biden occupying the Oval Office at the moment?

I think I explained the Contra affair. Did I say anything that was wrong? Reagan was determined to stop Soviet expansion He did it in Afghanistan, Africa and especially he didn't want them in the Americas, at our back door, where they could take hold and attack us with little to no warning. That's why when he saw them in Nicaragua and Grenada he took action to get them out. Yes he broke some laws doing it trying to fund the Contras and people went to jail, but most people understand what he did and doesn't hold it against him except Democrats who look for anything to try and trash him. The savings and loan scandal like most of your other things had nothing to do with Reagan himself. They weren't under American law like the banks were.

I'll repeat it. The Left is pushing things I would have never dreamed possible just a few years ago. They have called for more or less open borders, illegals, 16 year olds and mass murders voting. They have called for the cut in police funding, even the elimination of a police force. The doing away with ICE, giving sanctuary to illegal criminals. They have even gone as far as bailing out rioters as soon as they are caught. Cleaned out of prison thousands of convicts, some even sentenced to life.Children born without gender on their birth certificates till they decide themselves what they want to be. Transgenders in women's bathrooms, locker and sports. We are no longer to call them mothers, but birth persons. There should no longer address people as sir or mam. They are trying to pass a bill that would bring back to America all the illegal criminals we deported for crimes of less than 5 years in prison and pay their transportation back. They want to teach hate in school for Whites and their government. Their plan is to make Whites a minority race in the country through immigration, saying diversity is our strength. You can no longer fly the Confederate battle flag, but no law against flying Hitler's German flag
They have an attack on both the First and Second Amendments. The Democrats have completely gone nuts. I don't believe their is one sane one among their leadership and their flock goes right along with them.

And we all know why Reagan left the Democratic Party, do we not? He often claimed it was over tax policy, yet John Kennedy's presidency brought about lower taxes for people like Ronald Reagan. We all know the real reason people like Reagan left the Democratic Party and into the willing arms of the Republican Party. It mostly began under Truman, civil rights that is. By the early sixties, the Democratic Party had fully embraced civil rights and became one of the cornerstones of the presidencies of both John Kennedy and Lyndon Johnson. Reagan and every Republican since has run on reversing Kennedy and Johnson's successes. Let us not forget that Reagan's war on drugs was specifically designed to do harm to the Black and hippie communities with very predictable results, as the United States now imprisons more people, than any other country. It should come as no surprise that minorities are excessively overrepresented among those imprisoned. It is by design. Marihuana is legal in Colorado and the West Coast. The hippies won, Reagan lost.

Just because people conduct things that are totally wrong, but smart enough not to get caught, or it being unethical doesn't mean they are squeaky clean. You have Obama down as no buddy having been convicted of anything. Like you have several on Trump. But the man he appointed to the IRS had failed to pay thousands of taxes. Yet he isn't mentioned and neither is 36 Obama aids who owe over $844,000 in back taxes. But it looks like none have been convicted of tax evasion.

When interviewed by the FBI, and not sworn in, she said over 40 times she couldn't remember. By your view she did nothing wrong and was Obama's people. Does that make her clean too?

Numbers don't always tell the whole story which is why Democrats try and use them.

Your right, but it sure doesn't mean he didn't do anything wrong. He lied like hell to the people, one lie in particular cost most Americans thousands of dollars every year out of their pocket. Had one of the worst recovery in 50 years and his lack of fighting ISIS caused over a million Muslims to run to Europe for their lives and Europe and America will never be the same again. But your right, no convictions. Being stupid is not a crime.

Would you believe the Soviets themselves if they admit it?

June 5, 2004, 4:43 PM MST / Source: The Associated Press

He stunned the Soviet Union with his tough rhetoric, calling it an “evil empire” whose leaders gave themselves the “right to commit any crime.”

His famed “Star Wars” program drew the Soviets into a costly arms race it couldn’t afford. His 1987 declaration to Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev at the Berlin Wall — “Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall” — was the ultimate challenge of the Cold War.

Ronald Reagan’s determination to destroy communism and the Soviet Union was a hallmark of his eight-year presidency, carried out through a harsh nuclear policy toward Moscow that softened only slightly when Gorbachev came to office.

He is vividly remembered in Russia today as the force that precipitated the Soviet collapse.

“Reagan bolstered the U.S. military might to ruin the Soviet economy, and he achieved his goal,” said Gennady Gerasimov, who served as top spokesman for the Soviet Foreign Ministry during the 1980s
    .

Reagan’s agenda toward Moscow started shortly after the start of his first term — and marked a major departure from the mild detente of the Jimmy Carter administration.

In 1981, Reagan backed his rhetoric with a trillion dollar defense buildup. U.S.-Soviet arms control talks collapsed, and the two nations targeted intermediate-range nuclear missiles at each other across the Iron Curtain in Europe.

The deployment of the U.S. missiles in Europe rattled the Kremlin’s nerves, because of the shorter time they needed to reach targets in the Soviet Union compared to intercontinental missiles deployed in the United States.

In an even bigger shock to the Kremlin, Reagan in 1983 launched an effort to build a shield against intercontinental ballistic missiles involving space-based weapons.

The Strategic Defense Initiative (SDI), dubbed “Star Wars,” dumped the previous doctrine of Mutual Assured Destruction that assumed that neither side would start a nuclear war because it would not be able to avoid imminent destruction.

Even though Reagan’s “Star Wars” never led to the deployment of an actual missile shield, it drew the Soviets into a costly effort to mount a response. Many analysts agree that the race drained Soviet coffers and triggered the economic difficulties that sped up the Soviet collapse in 1991.

“Reagan’s SDI was a very successful blackmail,” Gerasimov told The Associated Press. “The Soviet Union tried to keep up pace with the U.S. military buildup, but the Soviet economy couldn’t endure such competition.”[/QUOTE]

Lech Walesa said that there would not be a free Poland without Ronald Reagan, during the unveiling of a statue in Warsaw of the late American president on Monday.

The former Solidarity leader said that “as a participant in these events,” it was “inconceivable” that such changes would have come about without the last American president during the post-1945 cold-war era.

Walesa added that thirty years ago, it seemed that the fall of the communist system would not be possible without a nuclear war.

The bronze statue of Reagan has been installed not far from the American Embassy, on Ujazdowskie Avenue, one of the capital’s most picturesque thoroughfares.

    Not like Obama's recovery.

Recovery Has Created Far More Low-Wage Jobs Than Better-Paid ...

Apr 27, 2014 · Economy Recovery Has Created Far More Low-Wage Jobs Than Better-Paid Ones
How good were the 10.9 million jobs under Obama?
    Money.CNN.com/2016/11/04/news/economy/jobs-under-obama/...
Nov 03, 2016 · CNNMoney breaks down what kinds of jobs have been created and ... Almost all of the job gains under President Obama have been in so-called service jobs,

The deep recession wiped out primarily high-wage and middle-wage jobs. Yet the strongest employment growth during the sluggish recovery has been in low-wage work, at places like strip malls and fast-food restaurants.

In essence, the poor economy has replaced good jobs with bad ones. That is the conclusion of a new report from the National Employment Law Project, a research and advocacy group, analyzing employment trends four years into the recovery.

“Fast food is driving the bulk of the job growth at the low end — the job gains there are absolutely phenomenal,” said Michael Evangelist, the report’s author. “If this is the reality — if these jobs are here to stay and are going to be making up a considerable part of the economy — the question is, how do we make them better?”

The report shows that total employment has finally surpassed its pre-recession level. “The good news is we’re back to zero,” Mr. Evangelist said.

But job losses and gains have been skewed. Higher-wage industries — like accounting and legal work — shed 3.6 million positions during the recession and have added only 2.6 million positions during the recovery. But lower-wage industries lost two million jobs, then added 3.8 million.

Aug 02, 2013 · Fully 77 percent of positions added to the market in 2013 have been part-time, in contrast to the positive economic news making the media rounds, according to payroll reports released in recent weeks.
"There are now 1.2 million fewer jobs in mid- and higher-wage industries than there were before the Great Recession, according to data from the National Employment Law Project. In contrast, there are 2.3 million more jobs in lower-wage sectors than before the recession," according to CNBC. Nor is there the hoped-for renaissance in American manufacturing. We have some 300,000 fewer manufacturing jobs since President Barack Obama took office and 1.5 million jobs below the pre-recession level.

The WARSAW nations that the Soviets captured during the war, was costing them a fortune in it's self, keeping them in line. Their biggest income was from gas and oil. Outside of that and weapons, the Soviets had little more to sell. They were stretched to the limit, then here comes Reagan with his arms build up and then Star Wars. The last thing in the world Gorbachev wanted is to be remembered as the man to bring down his own country. But I think he had little choice. Reagan convinced him that America does not want to defeat them and NATO is a defense organization and no threat to a peaceful Soviet Union. The two men softened and I think eventually became friends. I think Gorby trusted Reagan's word. I think Reagan was lucky to have Gorby in charge. He wasn't as hard line as the others before him.

What it tells a thinking person is that one side is crooked as hell. The Republican Party's motto might as well be criminals are us. Each and every Republican presidency since Nixon has been clouded in criminal activity. Chief among them has been the Trump, who grifted its way through its disastrous presidency.

Were the Russians really the problem? Or was it the profit margins of the US Fruit Company and other such American corporations that have long held a strangle hold on Central America?

The Contra part was only part of the overall corruption. The Iranians had tired of holding the American hostages and were talking of releasing them. The Reagan campaign sent an envoy, reportedly headed by the elder George Bush, to meet with the Iranians to make a deal. If the Iranians would hold onto the hostages just a few months longer, until after the election, that Reagan would sell them weapons and spare parts. The Iranians held the hostages, releasing them just as Reagan was being sworn in. The Reagan administration then sold the weapons and spare parts by "selling" them to an Israeli arms dealer who sold the weapons and spare parts to Iran. The Reagan administration then used the profits to fund Reagan's illegal war in Nicaragua. The CIA planes that took the supplies to the Contras were filled with cocaine on their return trips which greatly fueled southern Florida's 1980's cocaine frenzy. They then used the profits from the cocaine to fund further operations.

You have no proof he told the Iran to hold the hostages till he got elected. Yes he did go through Israel. And he did sell them to Iran for money for the hostages. Congress approved funding for the Contras and had funded them for two years. Up until the Contra mined the harbor and then Congress got scared thinking a Soviet ship could be blown up delivering supplies and weapons to the government and cut funds off. If Reagan hadn't found some way to fund them the war against the Soviets back government was over. It would only be a matter of time before the Soviets try and put missiles or planes at our back door like they did in Cuba. Reagan wouldn't have that and we should all be glad he didn't. It would be frightening to think they could launch an attack on us and could hit us before we would even be aware of it, much less have time to act against it. Kennedy felt the same way when he finally realized the Soviets placed missiles in Cuba. With Kennedy the act was already done and we knew the danger. In Nicaragua and Grenada was still in the developing stage and people didn't realize the seriousness of it yet.Reagan did and I'm damn glad he did. Those hostages had been held for a very long time and Reagan wanted to bring them home, I never got to upset over that

Turns out that Gorbachev, being a good communist, actually took the propaganda at its word. The Soviet Union was supposed to be about the people. With all the power being in the hands of the people. After all, that was Marx's vison, a pure democracy. But, as history tells us, the Soviet Union was quickly taken over by a brutal dictator, only to be replaced by a worse one. It is one of the great right/left battles. Russians still lived in a feudal society at the time of the Revolution and had never known freedom, which allowed the Soviets to just sweep in and practice their brutality. The people knew of nothing else. Yet in the propaganda, the theme persisted that this was really about the people, not the brutal dictators who lorded over them.

Thus, the Soviet Union had a far right government, as a dictator is as far right as one can get. It was liberals from within, headed by people like Boris Yeltsin and Michail Gorbachev, coupled with the rise of labor unions in the Eastern bloc countries, that brought down the Soviet system. For a few years there, the Russian people began to have real freedoms. But the conservative forces raised their ugly heads and fought back, dragging Russia back into a miserable right wing country headed by a murderous dictator.

Gorbachev got the Nobel peace prize, not Reagan.

Here is a nice quote from Gorbachev concerning the events of 2021 January 06. "The storming of the capitol was clearly planned in advance, and it's obvious by whom."
