It's not about everyone. Else the black community wouldn't want their own Anthem. Stop living in the past.

Seems like creating another anthem focused on one race, which is your criticism for the current national anthem, is more of the same. Would not the best solution be to create a new one that encompasses everyone?

Derail? It's an example of how your logic is out of whack. But then again, you come from the tribe that sees everything as being racist, including chess.

BTW, I'm 25% Italian which almost certainly means I have black blood in me. I probably have more black in me than Elizabeth Warren has injun in her, yet busting her balls was considered racist. Do the same standards apply to me?

I neither created it nor asked for it. So, why do you think it's about me?
Skin color is not a race. It's a color. I know that's not how people view it.

It's not my criticism. It's those who are ancestors of the slaves, criticism. I just happen to not disagree with them. I also can't say if I agree with them either.
But I don't see it as an issue. Most here seeing it as an issue haven't watched football since the kneeling days. So, they should not care either. But several posters who admit to quit watching it are here complaining about it.

I would agree, a new NA that encompasses every person of sex, color, nationality, etc would be better.
    Has that ever been proposed?
And what song would that be. Does it exist today?

It's your logic. Your out of whackness.

I am not here whining about some song. I believe you are.

So to you its no BFD and as such anyone objecting to it is automatically racist? You obviously do not know what the definition of "racist" is. And who are you to determine what is and should be considered "pointless" to others? Did someone appoint you King or something?

And it was made the National Anthem long after slavery had ended. As such everyone in America was Free. Also it is a falsehood to claim that white people were the only free people in the US even pre-civil war.

Yeah.....this happened 3 years ago and they did sing it, - but not to replace the US National Anthem, but as a part of the other pre-game activities. So, they did it in 2021 and 2022 and the sky didn't fall.

Either you won't get a response, but if you do it will probably be 'well, if you don't know....'

The existing NA already includes the people you mentioned. Do you think they're so special that they need one written just for them?

They can't graduate because their dad can't pay tuition for them to go to college, because HIS dad couldn't pay tuition HIM, because HIS dad grew up during Jim Crow because HIS grandfather was a slave.

This hypothetical black guy is clearly way smarter more capable than hypothetical you But he doesn't have the privileges you had and that YOU squandered Hypothetically speaking

But you said its racist ,so its about your opinion agreed?

OK? Not sure what triggered that comment.

Fair enough but I think you need to add a qualifying statement when you say its racist, IMO.

Yeah end of the day I just see it as a further divide but thats just my opinion.

I think they should have a national vote or something if we go this route and maybe make it a requirement to have it be new material?

Let's not forget these are the same people who removed the American flag from some classrooms and replaced with a nice new inclusive pastel colored one. That nice new flag represented far fewer people than the American flag did.

You refuse to understand that in 1865, slavery in this country was completely abolished, and by 1870 the 14th and 15th Amendments had been passed by Congress and signed into law. By that point, all persons of ALL races or "mixed" races became fully-fledged American citizens. Blacks became part of the United States of America -- and therefore part of our nation, with its flag and its national anthem! Therefore, certainly since 1870, "The Star Spangled Banner" is the national anthem of Black Americans, just as it is for the other two races. And that, surely, is the very essence of "DIVERSITY, EQUITY, AND INCLUSION!" :omfg:

Now, this "Lift Every Voice" song wasn't even written until the year 1900! It may be an enjoyable, pleasing tune for many people, but it should not (NOT) be considered by any of us to be on an equal footing with "The Star Spangled Banner"!

If you really don't ''get" that, then what would you say if it were suggested that, sure -- they can play the "Lift Every Voice" with "The Star Spangled Banner" -- and then follow that immediately with "Bonnie Blue Flag"! Link:

Hoo, boy, I can see all the radical Leftists swelling up into an apoplectic, pop-eyed rage! You see how that works when politics get jammed into things where it does not belong? The takeaway: we have ONE national anthem in this country, and it's not a tool for radicals of any stripe, or any one race!

Keep politics OUT of the Super Bowl -- period!

No it’s not, never was. This was explained in last years thread about the exact same thing but because no one here seems to have ever used Google in their lives, I guess I gotta explain it again.

“Lift Ev’ry Voice and Sing,” the Black National Anthem here has technically been around since 1900, James Weldon Johnson wrote it originally as a poem while in the middle of the Civil Rights movement at the time. The poem at the time was just the daily lives, struggles and general well being of black people in those days, so it was kind of a culture coming-together type of thing, something that gave them some pride.

Now with all that in mind, if people are upset that they’re just learning about this song, then it’s absolutely no one’s fault but theirs and their alone. People being butthurt and crying racism over a song they just found out existed over a century later is just stupid and serves exactly zero purpose. Especially for those of you who weren’t gonna watch the Super Bowl anyway but feel compelled to complain about this once again.

    Go woke and go broke.
The NFL has been losing fans ever since they thought it was fine that Kaepernick took a knee during the anthem and presentation of the colors.

The issue isn't that the NFL opposes racism and police brutality. A poll of football fans would certainly show that football fans are also overwhelmingly against racism and police brutality.

The issue is that by taking a knee, or turning ones back, or whatever, while the anthem is played and the colors presented is disrespectful to the country, to first responders, and to our military. And I'm pretty sure that since Kaepernick first took his knee not a single opinion has changed in this country, not a single life has been saved, not a single thing has changed except that many players start the game with grass stains on their knees.

And patriotic fans have turned off their TVS.
Now, if they really want to protest racism and police brutality, do your kneeling at the first score, or at half time, or at any of a hundred other times, just not at the point that we're supposed to be recognizing and respecting what a great country this is. The country, you know, that makes millionaires out of athletes.

Anyway, this former fans TV will not be on the Superbowl, or for that matter, any future NFL games.
screw the NFL and screw woke.
