    That’s what they want

Defund education so they can groom new Republicans as education is the antithesis to conservative regressive values.

Can you offer any proof that "professors are pushing and teaching leftist agendas?"

And antidotal or opinion pieces from partisan sources are not proof

Why should academia get protections that no other profession receives?

You can fire a tenured professor, and the overwhelming percentage of professors are not tenure

To obtain tenure you have to be recognized and distinguished in your field, not the same as a tradesman who largely relies on what he has already done, he experience value is not the same

Whatever is left of the conservative movement is dying at the hand of ignorance. Professors are not cannon fodder for politicians, they are professors plain and simple. We should be thankful any of them cares enough about their discipline to go through the incredible journey it takes to get a PHD. I am sorry conservatives today are not interested in knowledge for knowledge's sake. I celebrate our intellectuals and I have no desire to muzzle them at all.

All trades have apprenticeships. Some have more stringent requirements. 24 months is not a long time. Try getting a masters in Comp Sci while working and traveling for work.

Called capitalism, their labor is valued more, same reason a doctor earns more than a street sweeper, and I don't even know if we still have street sweepers

Misery does likes company. Many from the past (with the exception of some re progeny) believe higher education is to be scoffed. A necessary but a false mentality in self worth not shared by China/India/Korea/Japan/etc.. I've posted numerous times, the ignorance is a feature not a bug.

Also, for profit education loans are a real dirty business with corporate lobbyists totally ****ing the American education system out of pure greed sans balance. That's a topic for a different thread.

Not nearly as much as uneducated people commenting about matters that they do not understand.
Can you name a single degree program at any university that such courses are required?

Because their work is so much more difficult to quantify and quality check.

How do you tell when a tradesman does goos work? How about a university professor?
    Have you worked with ideas?
If they respect higher education instead of deriding it.

Not easy to acquire, but easy to keep. Top talent doesn't need tenure.

There's no standard to judge the quality of a professor's work.

    I work with ideas everyday.

Higher education should respect the rest of us. We're not here to serve them.

No, they're protected by politicians. Academia doesn't produce anything, hence their labor has no value.

Then why are you comparing it to a tradesman's?
    I bet you do.
Respect should not be a function of education and no one, that I can tell, has claimed that you or anyone are here to serve anyone. We are all here to contribute to society and because of that contribution to benefit from it.

You are right, only your work has value.
And you expect respect with such proclamations?

Yes, there are standards, you just don't know. They can be found in any university's faculty manual. Most of them are publicly accessible. Look one up, you might learn something.

The reality is, you don't know anything about the work college professors do, and how they are evaluated, you just have been trained by RW media to assume that they are bad, and so you have to rationalize why they are bad.

You obviously do not know any Professors or adjunct Professors or you would not make such a statement.

They are not educating people, our reading/math ranks are below the 1/3rd of developed countries as per the recent survey. Education in the US has never seen worse days. Eliminating tenure is but one start to reforms.

If its a private institution, govt keep hands off!

If the institution is recieving public money tho... its subject to public scrutiny and regulation.
