“WASHINGTON (AP) — House Republicans passed a resolution that would repeal a Biden administration rule tightening federal regulations on stabilizing braces for firearms, an accessory that has been used in several mass shootings in the U.S. over the last decade.”

“Since taking effect earlier this month, the rule requires anyone who has a gun with an arm-stabilizing brace to register the weapon with the federal government and pay a fee, or remove the brace from their weapons.”

“Several lawsuits have been filed against the regulations by gun owners and state attorneys general. They say it violates Second Amendment protections by requiring millions of people to alter or register their weapons”

“The main sponsor for the measure, Clyde, is a member of the ultra-conservative House Freedom Caucus and the owner of a gun store in his district in Georgia. His proposal to overturn the ATF rule first came to the House Judiciary Committee in late March for markup. But House Republicans postponed debate of the measure after a gunman used a weapon with a stabilizing brace to fatally shoot three children and three adults at an elementary school in Nashville, Tenn.”

Even if the measure gets thru the Senate, Biden will veto it, and there is no chance either body of Congress would get a two thirds vote to override the veto

But it would be interesting to hear a gun “rights” advocate explain specifically how this measure violates the Second Amendment

The second amendment mentions arms — it doesn’t mention accessories.

House Republicans fart into the wind. We still got 18 more months of this impotent congress.

Priorities, right? Impeaching Biden, going after LGBQT, restricting woman's right, and loosening gun regulations, that's what the Trump party has reduced itself to.

How many people use stabilizing braces.....? Very few, so this bill is only for show.

Believing that banning a brace makes us safer requires profound levels of gullibility. Would anyone like to take a stab at describing how it would?

The ATF doesn't have the constitutional power to make laws. That's why it's unconstitutional.

Article 1 says all legislative power is vested in Congress. The ATF doesn't have the authority to ban anything.

There have been quite a few states move to open carry over the past several years, that's just one example.

That has nothing to do with Congress.

If you mean permit less carry legislation, that's not "loosening gun regulations". That's upholding the Constitution.

I never said it has anything to do with Congress, neither did the post you were responding to.

It's something the Republican party pushes though.

You posted in a thread that's literally about Congress...lol.

The Republicans push it because they do a better job of protecting our constitutional rights than the Democrats do.

I'm surprised the Republicans have time to protect anything other than Trump.

Just imagine how much good they could get done without a weaponized DOJ.

Equating gay to groomer/pedophole requires levels of gullibility to numerous to count.

Can you describe how that could ?

I believe ATF clarified that those braces are not banned.

Or maybe you should have checked to learn most braces are not covered

I would use the word absurd. Think of the muzzle blast in the confined space of a home defense situation.

Not what the House Republicans claim:

“Republicans employed the Congressional Review Act, which allows Congress to undo recently enacted executive branch regulations, to try and nullify the new rule that they claim has turned millions of gun owners into felons.”

Besides the braces were employed in the grocery store shooting in Boulder, Colorado; the mass shooting in Dayton, Ohio, and most recently in a school shooting in Nashville, Tennessee.

They didn’t make any law, rather tightened existing regulations, which isn’t unconstitutional

I dont really think 'braces' are covered under the 2A. They should be covered under the ADA tho. But the virtue signallers dont seem to care about the disabled being able to exercise this particular right.

What this should be about is whether we can regulate thing without voting. So far, there's about as much legitimate law behind restricting gun braces as there is behind restricting marijuana. Do you think our marijuana restrictions are democratic? I dont. They've been enforced by unelected bureacracies for nearly a hundred years without anyone voting. Many gun laws too. We really should be putting these sortsof regulations up to a vote instead of just giving the govt the authority to ban this and that by requiring 'tax stamps' and etc.

I do think restricting short barreled rifles infringes on the 2A. And thats the real reason braces are being banned- they're a loophole to achieve a short barreled rifle. What no one has ever explained is the justification for restricting short barreled rifles.

Folks who get offended by people carrying openly want everyone to conceal their firearms ...then we restrict making many firearms concealable? That's either mixed messages ...or a disingenuous agenda at work.

How about rifle scopes, the sling, Red Dots etc.
Don't you fear a slippery slope?
