We prefer to support the human sanctity of the person already born, not the one not born. You are the opposite.
But whose “morality”? Quite frankly I view it as immoral if abortion is not allowed as research and sad reality has shown how restricting abortion negatively impacts women’s lives.
I've heard the "alternative viewpoints" on abortion all of my adult life. Mine is not the closed mind here. In my decades-long familiarity with this issue, I've concluded that a woman's medical conditions, including pregnancy, are nobody's business but her own. The 4th Amendment should apply to all of us. And those states trying to restrict to the point of forcing women to carry to term whether they want to or not are also violating Section 1 of the 14th Amendment. I suggest you read them, perhaps it will open your mind. This effort to nullify Roe v Wade is driven by evangelicals who want to force us all to live by their religious-based rules. The patriarchy wants to control women, always has. They use words like "killing babies" to get support from those who respond emotionally. It's pathetic and unreasonable, and allows for no other viewpoint.
And why would your opinion be worth any more than mine? No matter whose body it is, it works both ways. You can't get out of that.
Exactly! You have your opinion I have mine and as long as you do not force your beliefs on me all is fine
My beliefs are based on knowledge and of course, research The ability of a woman to “birth space” improves infant morbidity and mortality (in other words caring for BORN children over possible children Maternal mortality rises whenever abortion is made illegal and not just from backyard abortions it is because the law builds in hesitation for required abortions due to sudden catastrophic events Legislation has never reduced the abortion rate and in fact in many instances there is more illegal abortion than legal abortion as most commonly legislation on abortion is accompanied by restriction on contraception Women should not have to face court for miscarriage https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-59214544 And that is a tip of the iceberg compared to countries like El Salvador https://www.hrw.org/news/2022/02/15/el-salvador-releases-woman-imprisoned-after-miscarriage
Is giving birth at home illegal? Add that to the already endless list of laws enacted by men in order to control women. Back in 1969-1972 when we were marching for our reproductive rights, I carried a sign that said "If men could get pregnant, abortion would be a sacrament." In Jan. 2017, a friend attended the Women's march, wearing a ***** hat and carrying a sign saying "I can't believe I still have to march for this ****." The efforts of patriarchies throughout history to keep women subjugated is truly astounding. (Relevant Addendum: why is it okay to write prick, but not pu$$y? More gender-biased nonsense.)
I hope you can recognize that it isn't just men who oppose abortion, it's opposed by a significant number of women as well. This isn't an issue of patriarchy, it's an issue of morality.
You are free to do what you want. The problem is that YOU want to control the bodies of OTHERS. So, YES - it should work both ways. And, that means that you have to BACK OFF on what you want to impose on others.
6 in 10 Americans believe abortion must be legal. More women believe so than men. The major desire for control over women's bodies comes from white evangelicals. >>>The movement against women's control of their own bodies IS being driven by the male religious right. https://www.pewresearch.org/fact-ta...bortion-should-be-legal-in-all-or-most-cases/
As I have said I find banning abortion immoral and it has little to do with “rights” and more to do with concern for the living over the possible. All too often those enacting abortion bans are also insisting on abstinence only contraception and certainly will not support financial or physical assistance for the family Most times when, men especially, talk of “morals” and abortion it boils down to a wish to “lecture” women about sex. After all women would not get pregnant if they did not have sex. And amazingly? Men are never involved. Men are never part of this blame equation
Another problem with this statement is that it is HUGELY presumptive. You want to claim that YOU and yours have the definition of morality while others you oppose do not. That is a ridiculous claim.
Tha5 is because it is not really about “morality”. Look at the blame game underpinning this. It almost invariably comes down to “well if she did not want to become pregnant she shouldn’t have had sex”.
No counter link I see There has always been strong support for abortion and I can assure you this much, the minute you have a case like Savita Halappanavar most of thes abortion laws will be overturned
