Well isn't that special? Here we are chasing Al Qaeda in half a dozen countries.... and here they are flying their flags on the government buildings of the country we just spent billions liberating.

Ever get the notion we might be our own worst enemy?

Ah well......Mr. Days not Weeks Obama and Hillary are happy.

And people whom have been given access to hundreds of millions of the Gaddafi regimes wealth, and to all the arms in Libya.

This is like Afghanistan 1980's style again.

"The Soviet war in Afghanistan was a nine-year conflict involving the Soviet Union, supporting the Marxist-Leninist government of the Democratic Republic of Afghanistan[15] against the Afghan Mujahideen and foreign "Arab–Afghan" volunteers. The mujahideen received unofficial military and/or financial support from a variety of countries including the United States, Saudi Arabia, the United Kingdom[citation needed], Pakistan, Israel, Taiwan, Indonesia and China."

Absolutely. Already some of the anti-air weapons have made there way to Gaza, and already we see signs of a potential civil war as various rebel factions jostle for power.........

Libya: revolutionaries turn on each other as fears grow for law and order
Hundreds of revolutionaries fought each other at a hospital in Tripoli early on Monday, in the biggest armed clash between allies since the fall of Muammar Gaddafi.

    Who are you referring to?

It was not worth Billions of taxpayer dollars to help snuff the fool so that Al Qaeda and sympathizers could replace him.

Sounds like gang members. Maybe we should put a huge fence around Libya and let them shoot it out. Last man standing wins.

We should do that with every politician who've lead their nations to conduct illegal or/and unjust wars, politicians who've supported and been involved in the arms trade, and anyone connected to such industries.

LOL do we have to spend money on the fence? I'm thinking with all those weapons on the streets and all the factions in the rebel groups they are going to do just that......

Poor Obama. He just can't get a break. I'm guessing he wouldn't last 5 minutes in a country like Libya.

Of course it was'nt worth the Billions spent, but I doubt any of our elected authorities would admit it.

    cheers.

This flag can be an inocuous as the confederate flag flying around here in the US, or it can be a bad deal.....untill we start getting intel that Libyan government officials are sponsoring terrorism against the US, it's all chicken little stuff, and something we shouldn't care about.

    Just my opinion

Apparently the flag was only up for a short time,a couple of days ago and is now gone.

    Where does this leave us?

I suppose it leaves us with the hope that the leadership is aware of the bad PR ramifications and is beginning to assert itself. Hopefully, our efforts and cost burdens were not wasted as it is a done deal.

Even still, it is a reminder of just who make up some of the rebel factions.

Well, considering that it's fairly easy for us to send strikes into Libya, I think it's great. Al quaeda should consider itself targeted.

Libya and Iraq are not anymore likely than each other to go radical Islam after we leave...and we can't stay forever in either, but we can bomb either with drone strikes.

I can't see justifying the human and financial cost of putting boots on the ground in crap holes like Libya and Iraq.

All tolled....Libya gave us far more tyrant unseating bang for our buck

It's almost as if the US wants to spread Wahabism in the region............

It's almost like they have some deal going with the Goldfinger himself........

    It's all very strange.....................

but on the plus side Margot assures us that Libya has nice beaches and barrels of oil so everything will be fine................

I always find posts like this a little odd.....when I lived in Turkey...I found very few people who worried about Wahabism in the middle east's effect on America. Sure...they expressed concern about 911......but never the type of comments you've made....

I'm new here...and can I ask.......what country do you live in?

    Egypt

Since the Arab spring we have seen a very disturbing wave of wahabism affecting our country.

The Alexandria statue is just one of many worrying things these Wahabi nuts have been getting up to.

It's springing up in Libya Egypt Tunisia Algeria etc where it was never an issue before.

It makes you wonder what the deal is.

NATO and USA liberate Libya and put an AQ commander Abdulhakim Bilhajj in charge of Tripoli !!!!!! :omg:
Anyone who lives or lived in this region and knows the people knew without a doubt this was going to be a catastrophe.
Yunnis was murdered and Bil Hajj made commander of military. The same guy whose fighters were fighting the US in Iraq?????
A mujahideen wahabi nut with the backing of the US and NATO?????

Just because the West gives them a chance to live a better life and build a better country - doesnt mean the Libyans have the guts and brains to pull it off. To blame the West for any resultant failure of Libya is to somehow expect something more from the West!? Dont forget the Libyan's asked for the West to intervene and help. The only people in charge of Libya's destiny is the Libyans.

A myth. The NATO backed 'rebels' did not command the overwhelming support of the mass of the Libyan people. As the 'rebels' themselves admitted, without the backing of NATO, they would not have succeeded in THEIR 'revolution' which in reality was undertaken on behalf of Western imperialism. What the corporate mainstream media didn't show, was the mass of Libyan's who were opposed to NATO intervention and who supported Ghadafi against the invaders. If the Libyan's were in charge of their own destiny as you suggest, then why was it not THEIR revolution? - a revolution that was, by definition, necessarily compromised.

What I don't see is solid secular leaders in Egypt, Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, and just about everywhere but Turkey. The only people who seem to be stepping up have a religious agenda

The situation kind of reminds me of the direction the US is headed....more and more, as time moves on....politicians in the US and the middle east, are incresingly pressured by the prevailing religious elements in their societies to include religion in legislation and laws.

I believe in secular government....where individual politicians are free to vote based on their own morality....as opposed to creating laws and programs they justified mainly by saying "God wills it" or "the Bible/Q'uran says it...so". I think Wahibists are further down that dark path than American Christians...but they're headed that way.

And the trillion dollar, 8 year, Operation Iraqi "Freedom", what that's just good foreign policy?

You guys just cant stand that Obama has done more to clean house in 3 years than George Bush did in almost a decade. All while not even making it the focus of his tenure.
