Yeah, it caught me off guard but like you say, we're bystanders.

 

The killing of the innocent man and what led up to it is a total tragedy. But it isn't murder. The murder ruling isn't justice. It's an extenuation of the tragedy.

 

Why would you say that? It would be the same thing, a horrible human mistake.

Never seen pictures of the joint. Good grief. Pretty well marked. How do you miss something like that?

 

I’d want more information before recommending the death penalty. I do agree LE should be held to account under the same laws as the rest of us and at this point they certainly are not. And there are way too many like this one that are not cut out for the job.

 

There are better pictures of the light bar in some of the earlier stories.

Thanks. I remember discussing this case a little on a firearm forum back when it happened but never looked up pictures. The more I learn the less inclined I am to think you could make a “mistake” like that. Guess the jury felt the same...

 

Amber won't get the death penalty because it wasn't capital murder. She may spend a few years in prison but the max is 99 years.

 

I am really surprised that no one has ever showed any pictures of the signage in the parking garage or on the access doors. All garages I have been in have large numbers or letters indicating the level that you are on. In this instance the fourth floor has a skylight that she walked under. There is no skylight on the third floor.

She was tried and found guilty to stop a potential riot.

 

I understand what you mean. However, keep in mind that's only her claim that she got mixed up and thought it was her apartment.
What does the evidence show?

Assuming it was an honest mistake, she was brave stepping forward and admitting it. Many in that situation might have immediately run away as soon as they realized the terrible mistake.

Could it be at all possible she was involved in some sort of dispute with her neighbor and it escalated? Or that she might have killed him in the anger of the moment? I think we do have to keep in mind other alternative possibilities.

Yes, she deserves that, but you also have to ask yourself what good that would serve.

Thanks for that. But, all I want is to read the actual Section of some Act/Code under which she was tried. Without knowing that, most of the comments here are irrelevant, IMO.

 

Unfortunately some prosecutors view it as a game and want to see what the maximum charge is that they convict.
So they'll slap on the maximum possible charge for the situation, even if it's not the most appropriate one.

 

Unlikely, since she should have known her plan would still involve a long prison sentence. Even assuming her story is believed, she is still likely going to be in prison for several years, or possibly be on the hook for some huge civil liability.

However, I still view a killing as a result of a confrontation that escalated, or anger in the moment, as a possibility. Then she could have panicked and made up the story at the last minute as a means to greatly reduce the punishment she would face.

At least that's a possibility that we should consider, it may not be very likely.

No it's not, this is murder for the simple fact that there were too many options available to her that would have prevented her from murdering this young man. If I am in fear for my life because I think someone is in my apartment, why the hell would I go into the apartment instead of staying in the hall and calling back up.
