If somebody was eating ice cream in my house the first thought I would have is "what kind of ice cream do you got?"

    I love ice cream!

    I also doubt it.

Still, it does raise an interesting possibility.

I am still hoping for (at least) 10 years served.

She got 10 years, which is in the realm of what I was thinking 5-15. She wasn't going to get life, and nothing behind 20.

    Yup.

I was thinking between 7-10 Years served.

So, my instincts (as usual) were spot-on.

Good time will probably shave off a couple (or few) years.

She will probably have to serve her time away from Gen Pop, b/c she will be a target.

    Justice was served. :salute:

    According to THIS:

    https://txparolelaw.com/eligible-for-parole-in-texas/

It looks like (even if she is a "model prisoner") she will have to do 5 Years before being parole eligible.

Of course, just b/c she is eligible, doesn't mean parole will be granted (after 5 years).

Hopefully she doesn't go into Gen Pop.

B/c if she does, I would recommend hat she Binge-Watch Orange is the New Black in case the need arises to join a Lesbian Prison Gang (for protection).

    Just saying...:salute:

I think that there will be an appeal and she will win because of the murder conviction and not manslaughter. I say this because the verdict implies that she deliberately went to the victim's flat to shoot him. She would have to have known that the apartment door was open and he would be there. And no motive given either.

    Appeal is a Fool's Errand.

She should be happy to get off easy (5 yr. Minimum) and move on.

If a Cop, (of any description) walked into my son's home and shot him dead, I'd want that cop to get life. Maybe I wouldn't have a legal basis for that but I'd want it. And I'd feel totally justified to do so.

As usual, Amber got a slap on the wrist.

Amber Guyger Sentenced To 10 Years For Murder Of Botham Jean
Prosecutors asked for at least 28 years, one for each year of Jean’s life. Guyger will have to serve at least half her sentence ― five years ― before she can be considered for parole.

Angry, emotional chants of “No justice, no peace” echoed in the hallway outside the courtroom by those who felt the sentence was too short for Guyger.

“Ten years? Ten years is a slap in the face,” one woman shouted.

I am glad she was convicted and will have to serve time. I thought that the system would reward her for killing an innocent black man in Texas but they did give her a light slap so maybe that is a little progress.

    Pretty sharp.

Already working on a Prison Marriage and a Conjugal Visit.

It will be interesting to see how they classify her in prison.

Obviously, she is way too well-known to go into Gen Pop.

Yah, I have no problem with 10 years here... She needs punishment, but it's doubtful she will be a threat to society upon her return to it..

    Good call here...

From my perspective, the jury settled on some twisted form of vengeance, not justice.

Although in my opinion she should have been given the maximum the law allowed without parole, to the credit of the judge, jury, and a pure angelic creature who was the victims brother, she was given a very low sentence. I hope she takes that five years in prison to reflect on what she did and I hope she spends EVERY DAY for the rest of her life haunted by what she did. But given the fact she didn't even try to save that poor soul's life and was only concerned about what was going to happen to her, I doubt it.

i say that because imo people judge situations on context
In the current situation.... you have a police officer who made a horrible mistake
... we tend to be sympathetic with police officers who make mistakes

She was a woman.... and we think of women as vulnerable.... therefore we can understand her concern that there was a strange man in her apartment

she was a police officer and so (for better or worse) we can understand why she might be particularly aware of the dangers of black males

she was a police officer.... and so highly trained to react quickly in dangerous situations

he was a black guy.... you know ”they” live in a different world... a world of guns and pervasive violence.... some black guy gets shot, it is sadly unremarkable.... that is Kinda the default scenario for men their community isn’t it? “BLACK GUY DIES OF GUNSHOT”. No one really cares, situation normal
    ———-
    now reverse the situation
Generally speaking we are suspicious of black guys.... maybe he was on drugs, or arranging a drug deal.... why would he immediately shoot a woman..... it sounds like there is “more” to the story

a black guy would have less reason to fear for his life from a white woman in his apartment,,, so we would not consider shooting the most logical reaction to encountering a strange woman

and how stupid do you gotta be to think that her apartment was your apartment.... sad to say these black guys are dumb as rocks. Here you got a black guy whose stupidity caused him to shoot an innocent white lady minding her own business in her own apartment.... thats just criminally dumb

generally, i think society would feel a lot more compassion for an unarmed white woman killed in her own apartment..... NO WONDER WOMEN HAVE HIGH ANXIETY if they can be minding their own business in their own apartment and someone comes in and shoots them.... it is outrageous

otoh, a ten year sentence with parole in five is not such a heavy punishment for killing someone.... i mean, you can get that for smoking a joint

"David Armstrong was cross-examined by defense attorneys Wednesday, continuing his testimony which began Tuesday. Defense attorneys showed jurors numerous photos depicting how the third and fourth-floor hallways and parking garage appear at the South Side Flats. Guyger had mistakenly parked on the fourth floor the night she shot Jean. There are no signs to show what floor residents are on, and each floor appears identical. Armstrong said that during his investigation, the Texas Rangers interviewed 349 residents. Of those, 15 percent had gone to the wrong door and tried to use their key. And 23 percent of the residents who lived on either the third or fourth floor tried to use their key on the wrong door. Armstrong also testified that there was a defect on Jean’s door that caused it to not close properly, making it easy for anyone to push it open."

I agree. That would be a fair balance between regard for human imperfection as well as the value of life. It is just too bad that nothing we do can restore the life of the innocent man, or spare his loved ones grief.

Did he also say that the interior of the victim's apartment looked the same as the interior of Guyger's apartment?
