"Would you consider the Civil Rights Act or the Voting Rights Act...racist government actions?"

Taxcutter says:
Parts of them...yes.

I think in his case he was a college teacher, not as a student. Savage has several Ph.D.'s and probably knows he was more qualified than his competition.

I agree with you. You know....this is part of the justification for AA at universities. It's not simply about grades or test scores. Very often it's about what a person brings that adds to the cultural diversity of the college.

I find people like that hard to ignore. Especially when I find it so rampant within a particular political ideology.
I just finished a writing a book titled Growing up White in Racist America. It chronicles racism that I saw back in the 50's and 60's right up to today. There is a common thread.

What parts? So you would have opposed the Civil Rights Act and the Voting Rights Act? Would you identify yourself as a conservative?

True, but anyone who doesn't agree with you I'm sure you consider irrational. Black conservative men do get worse treatment from the left that conservative White men, but then that just says something about their own racial prejudices.
I see nothing wrong with using a stage name as many celebrities do this.

Doesn't that indicate that there was more to the job qualification than his degrees? Maybe he didn't come across well in his interview.

You just have to ignore them and accept the fact that not everyone is going to have the enrichment that a person who looks past skin color does. The 50's and 60's were before my time, but as a white, and growing up where I grew up, (NYC, Washington DC) I was exposed very early to a myriad of cultures, from black, hispanic, greek, the whole gambit. I grew up in some of the roughest neighborhoods and experienced not what I would call reverse racism, but let's just say it took awhile for most to get used to my white skin. I was bullied a little, but when it was found out I could hold my own against guys who were 3 and four years older than me, I was accepted into the community. My mom had a few friends in the community so she assimilated quickly, from that day forward I was no longer known as the white boy, I was just me.

You know the political ideology you speak of is really not as deep rooted as you think it is. You should watch a Documentary called Runaway Slave. It is very informational and eye opening. I think you will have a better understanding of the true conservative position.

Well, the reality is that most people, especially the most vocal opponents of racism, in actuality aren't opposed to racism in principle.

Racism is a learned behaviour. We're not born with learned behaviours, they're instilled, they're programmed in.

Most racists don't believe they're racist because they're ignorant of the fact that what they believe is a learned behaviour.

Religion is another learned behaviour. No-one is born Christian or Muslim, it's programmed in post birth by the prevailing cultural beliefs and parents.

Most people never question their own learned behaviours. Indeed many people defend their learned behaviours as though they've arrived at them themselves.

Some people defend their handed-down learned behaviours to the point of death. That's an act of insanity.

Once a person understands they operate from learned behaviours they are then free to ditch those which don't serve them.

You are not your learned behaviour.

There's only one race we all belong to and it's called the human race. The subdivisions are all learned behaviours.

No. I already know that I'm a fallible human being. I could be wrong about a lot of things. I'm simply looking to see if what they are saying is falsifiable or not. That's the test. If their argument is based on some emotional appeal or value that they can't demonstrate as being true or simply defies logic, then clinging to that at the expense of others is irrational. I don't own logic. I'm going to apply it to my own reasoning just as much as I would to anybody else's. I'm not trying to prove that I'm right. I'm trying to eliminate mistakes. You can't do that, if you assume that you're infallibly correct.

Black conservative men, which are few in number, get criticized over their conservatism which is an ideology that is open to criticism regardless of your race. I oppose Allen Keyes and Alan West because I oppose conservatism. Their being black isn't the issue. But since Conservatism and racism go hand in hand, it's surprising to find an African/American that embraces it.

Is he seeking celebrity status? I can't think of another radio head that feels the need for a "stage name" but then they aren't tagged with Weiner as a name while trying to be a badass winger. I do know about the guy. Cal Berkeley I believe. Lives in San Francisco. A nutritionist. He had a show in MSNBC for about 2 weeks replacing Phil Donahue until he told a gay guy to get AIDS and die on the air. He was denied a Visa to enter the UK. He called himself a Socialist like Mussolini and like Mussolini, turned to Fascism. I used to listen to his show on the car radio just to see how extreme people on the right could get.

I think the fact that there are conservative Black men is proof that your thesis that "Conservatism and racism go hand in hand" is in fact a false statement.

It also speaks to your indifference to the truth regarding the liberal democrats history of racism, something I have documented thoroughly on this forum as well as you incomplete knowledge of conservative republicans history of promotion of racial equality over a hundred years. I'm surprised that African/Americans embrace the democrat party given it's abysmal history of Jim Crow laws, Poll Taxes, opposition to the Civil Rights Acts for decades, opposition to anti-lynching laws and connection with the KKK, as well as it's more recent history of denying Blacks school choice, denial of equal opportunities for jobs and business opportunities, and it's practice of racial purification and cleansing through it's abortion practices aimed at minorities in the inner cities through Margaret Singers Planned Parenthood abortion mills.

The fact that you have a list of Black men that you oppose is not surprising to me.

An honest discussion about racism? Ok, racism isn't near as bad as it once was. We have came along way. Discussion over, move along. Thanks.

I think the problem is more about how we deal with racism. See, the way we do things now, the mere accusation of racism is a cognitive kill switch -- once someone plays that card, the rest of the discussion is about whether or not that statement/word/phrase is racist, not whether it's true. The other part is that since racism is shameful (that is to say that people think that being racist is a negative trait, rather than a bad decision or a problematic belief), people have a strong aversion to being "found out" as racist. Which means that you can't or won't talk about those issues. It's better to say nothing, better to hide your shame, and this becomes even stronger when the social stigma becomes economic (as in denied jobs, fired, or denied a promotion) because now it's not just the shame of not being "enlightened enough", but the fear that being found out could mean the end your career, the loss of your business, or the like. Under such conditions, no conversation is possible, at least not one that goes anywhere. For the conversation to go anywhere, it has to be honest first and foremost -- yet half of the participants cannot be honest for fear of revealing their shame.

I am by nature an outsider. As soon as I am expected to behave in a certain way I question it.

I tend to relate to people who fall outside the norms of their culture. But I am compelled to examine and evaluate any value system.

No need to worry about me falling into any normal stereotype. I go my own way. Race is only as big a deal to me as it is to the person I have to deal with.

I used to think racism was mostly a thing of the past until I started posting in these mostly right wing political forums. That's when I realized how wrong and naive I was.

(Cue some conservative that will call me a "race baiter" or claim I have " white guilt")

There are plenty of white people (myself included) that have no problem admitting that white privilege exists.

The problem is, when a white person does acknowledge the reality of white privilege, you usually have some Conservative claim he or she has white guilt, or claim he or she is a "self loathing white".

Yeah, it is definitely a big issue with conservatives. Simply taking an honest look at things like 'what do you do when walking down the street and see a black man, do you do something you wouldn't do if you saw a white man walking?' Things as subtle as putting your hands in your pocket, posturing, etc. Very tiny things...things most people don't even realize they do...

Yeah, pretty much.

A white kid can go into a school and murder a bunch of students, and I as a white man don't have to worry about people blaming me for that. White criminals are looked at as individuals, but black and other minority criminals represent all minorities when they commit a crime, that's the mindset.

Hell, go to any right wing website and it's constantly the same racist crap over and over again, or go to any article that discusses a black criminal, and right wingers infest the comment section with their racist drivel.

And when a liberal calls it out, they are labeled a race baiter, white guilt, and whatever other stupid names cons come up with.

This may not be the best place to post this, but I ran into this movie, I think it's still relevant, even though it's very exaggerated:

I don't think any white man complaining about black people would stand living as black man today for one week.

The people who claim all opposition to Obama is racism are wrong. There may be some element of the right that is motivated (even if not primarily) by racism, but most of it is to do with other factors altogether!!

Zimmerman did not defend himself from a black person. He stalked and harassed the black person, and initiated the altercation. He then lost the altercation, so he shot him. That is not self-defense in any meaningful sense of the word, unless it means self-defense from an embarrassing ass kicking by a teenage boy.

The new black panther party are a sham, and most of what they do is grandiose in order to draw attention to themselves.

Zimmerman's parents had nothing to do with the incident, and if they defended their son, it is because he is THEIR SON!!! Obviously. Attacking them is a disgusting thing to do.

All in all, race talk in this country is just another propaganda tactic. That is what the media is these days. In the past they presented news. Since the media became solely owned by some of the worlds largest corporations, the media now is in the business of promoting the interests of themselves and their elite benefactors. That is why whenever you watch the news, the will say terrible things about the party their performance dictates they dislike. But they always take them seriously, even if it is only as a threat. However watch what happens when they discuss grassroots political movements. The tea party are just ignorant, angry "**********s." They were mocked incessantly!! Look at the funny costumes they wear. Same thing for Occupy. What did anyone know about them? They were hippies sleeping on the street who (*)(*)(*)(*) on cars. In both instances, their message was either dismissed, ignored, or openly mocked in favor of personal derision (of course until the tea party was coopted by the Republican party). They want all the thinking done by the "elite." They don't want to hear the opinion of the unwashed masses. What they want the unwashed masses thinking about is race, muslims, abortion, gay people doing gay stuff, mexicans stealing your jobs, etc. They want people distracted while they and their friends continue to control the system and amass massive amounts of wealth for themselves. If people were paying attention to that, they would say "hang on a minute, that isn't right." Then they might do something about it!!

So instead we get the most simplistic and inane discussions of race, unrelated to the very real racial problems we face. If you are worried about all the "government "leachers" who do nothing while I work hard. You aren't worried about the government leachers who enrich themselves by the billions off the back of government granted privilege. If you are worried about Obamacare being socialism, and the fact that it needs to be repealed (or maintained at all costs, doesn't matter what side you are on), you aren't paying attention to the fact that our health care is unacceptably expensive compared with the rest of the world. We should be worried about costs, but lower costs mean lower profits for health care companies. So you need to bleat on about socialism and reverse racism, and let us get to the business of accumulating enormous amounts of wealth thanks to government granted privilege, while you should be happy with your big screen tv blasting you with wonderful images to make you forget even further.....

As long as two ideas (that only white people can be racist, and all of black people's problems can be attributed to white racism) persist, there is not going to be any honest discussion about race.

An "honest discussion of race" in America is as much an oxymoron as the "peace process" in the Middle East.
