The right wing only complains about the Poor. Why no complaints about corporate welfare for the already rich.

obviously budget deficit is caused by all those who killed all 30 Republican BBA's the majority of whom were Democrats since they are 100% dependent on new welfare programs to buy new votes as the old welfare programs fail. Now do you understand?

Are you seriously not able to move past the knee jerk emoting? If we take the approach that every act of aid must feel good (as though we're all 5 years old), we'll end up in complete chaos. Dissolution faster than you can say "where did I go wrong?". Not only will the people we wish to help NOT be helped - being given fish, rather than taught to fish - but responsibility will become extinct. Meaning that ultimately NO ONE will be helped.

The very best help you can give someone is to be 'harsh, inflexible, and judgemental'. We are simple and indolent creatures, and almost all of us require a hard boot up the arse to engage with full personal responsibility. It's an act of love to supply that boot, to those who missed out as children because they had crappy and irresponsible parents.

Yes, being human is complicated. For ALL humans - therefore it's not an excuse.

Every rich person I know works their rear end off, and has done so for decades. I can't hate them for that.

yep, I remember the days when I felt really secure if I had a 25 lb bag of rice in the closet. It meant I was going to eat for a month! And I would shop around for the best price on a 25 lb bag!

I think your post accurately describes YOU, but not me, and not most humans. Your world view seems to be molded by the worst in us. I'd rather see the world, and the people in it, as more positive. I don't agree that a "hard boot up the arse" is a good way to deal with others. I think such actions only cause hard feelings & make trouble for later. I think the vast majority of us are already responsible people, but the minority who aren't, get the attention. I think the world from your view would be one of constant judgment, dissatisfaction, fault-finding, harassment, conflict, and stress. The world has enough of all those already, without making them the primary focus of our lives. You & I have VERY different world views, but I am happy to disagree with you. :)

What BBA's are you referring to ?

The 1980 presidential election gave the presidency to Republican Ronald Reagan and control of the Senate to the Republicans for 3/4 of Reagan's presidency. Passage of the amendment started to seem more possible, though passage of a constitutional amendment requires a two-thirds vote in both houses of Congress. Deficit spending soared in the 1980s. A program agreed to by Administration and Congressional leaders which were supposed to entail two dollars of spending cuts for every dollar of tax increases was an abysmal failure, and deficits soared further. It became apparent that Congress had no intention of passing the Balanced Budget Amendment, and President Reagan never once proposed a balanced budget for adoption by the Congress.

Obviously - as anyone with a brain and figure out on their own - a BBA not passing under Carter - does not negate Reagan's responsibility for spending like a princess with a credit card.

Who's talking about Reagan? We are trying to teach you that 100% of the support for fiscal responsibility resides within Republican Party. This is why they introduce BBA's and Democrats kill them. This is why they denounce Trumps budget as cruel. This is why they cut taxes and Democrats raise them. 1+1=2

We still do it. LONG after we could afford to start eating caviar. It's healthy, cheap, and requires no special equipment to store or cook. It means we can get by with a small refrigerator (less electricity). It reduces trips to the store (less pollution). Etc etc. Of course now we add high quality extra virgin olive oil, and if we have cheese it's the good stuff :p

I don't know any poor folk who work 120 hours a week in very high pressure, HUGE responsibility, high stress, and high risk jobs - on their feet the entire time. And that's just the example of junior doctors, fresh out of 6 years of truly gruelling university. Friends and relatives who've developed businesses have worked 7 days a week, 16 hours a day .. for years. Zero time off, mentally. Risking everything on the chance that it might succeed (and only one in three does).

It is you that has been schooled - Reagan was a princess with a credit card - Your claim that Red is the party of fiscal responsibility is refuted by its actions. Bush was a big spender.. both Daddy and Baby bush .. and now Trump.

    Your claim is mindless nonsense.

you mean a great hero who spend on the military to win the cold war, defeat communism, and prevent nuclear war. Imagine the psychological issues that prevent you from seeing the extremely obvious?

so as a gifted one you would say Dems are the party of fiscal responsibility? Notice the way a conservative is made to feel like a kindergarten teacher?

but they spend less than Dems wanted and would have balanced the budget if there had been enough support for it. Now do you understand?

Yes. One of my three kids is currently studying a very difficult and very demanding 6 year degree, and doing grunt work every spare minute he has. He leaves the house at 6am and returns at 8pm (if he's lucky), and works on weekends. He considers nothing 'beneath' him, if it means getting ahead by a dollar. He's saved almost every cent he's earned since age 12, and currently has many many thousands of dollars invested. He will undoubtedly be rich as a result of his effort and determination. NONE of it comes easily. But that's what it takes - when you're not born to great wealth. The reality that the indolent would prefer to ignore.

    anecdotes are fine and good.

hard work does't mean success under any form of Capitalism.

and, Labor as the least wealthy is burdened with a work ethic from the Age of Iron, in modern Information Age times.

Read my anecdote again. What is the key ingredient in my son's inevitable future wealth? Is it number of hours worked? Is it quantity of sweat? Or is it determination to avoid poverty?

He could work the same hours, yet spend every cent he makes. Or he could have decided that a gruelling 6 year STEM degree is too onerous, and opt for an easy 3 year Arts degree instead (thus dramatically reducing his employment options and potential salary). There are a million ways in which we sabotage ourselves.
